Speculation

Thought this would be a good place for speculation on the apparent demise of IDTP.

It's Happened Before

IDTP isn't dead yet.

I've tried and tried to no avail to contact the administrator.

It's very possible he is on vacation and doesn't have access to a computer.

The site (as all sites seem to do) has had a few problems recently.

Honestly, it's one of my favorite places for research.  Many of us have contributed many, many hours into research.  And, as far as I am concerned, I want the site functional ASAP.

Server is still up and serving pharmacy pages

It looks like a misconfigured server, the IP address for idthispill 70.47.30.149 routes to a pharmacy site.  So the server can at least serve a default page, but not idthispill.

Sorry - my mistake

It's totally my fault.  I talk to much.  That might be the problem.

But hopefully I've been helpful over the last few years.

KubHost.net

I'm getting a web hosting site called KubHost.net instead of an offshore pharmacy.  It's all in Russian or one of those funny languages.  I copied and pasted the IP so it's not mistyped.

hmm interesting

I mistyped the IP into the window.

Using the host command:

 ~$ host idthispill.com
idthispill.com has address 70.47.30.148
idthispill.com mail is handled by 0 idthispill.com.

That block of IP addresses belongs to Net Access Corporation (NAC).  The hosting provider Kubhost is probably just reselling NACs service.

When did IDTP first go down?

Locked

I think 'Locked' only means that the domain can't be accidentally transferred, deleted or updated.  It provides an extra layer of security so you don't accidentally lose your domain.

I believe some domain registries simply use 'locked' as asynonymn for "Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK"

Has anyone been able to get a hold of the admin?

Also what about the contact at http://www.joshuapettit.com/

Hmm...

I was curious if that might be the case, so I looked up this website and it's listed as ACTIVE. So, I presumed that this was an administrative lock by the web hosting service. I would think there's several reasons for it:

1) non-payment

2) data transfer limit exceeded.

3) disk space limit exceeded.

Just a few I could think of... and as for Josh.... he's a web developer... not sure what help he would be, unless he accidentally locked the site. I still think our best bet is through the owner, if he'd ever bother to respond.

ubbthreads

Another possiblity is that the server was hacked and shut down by the hosting company.  I think this is pretty likely.  I noticed from the google cache that idtp was running ubbthreads 6.4.  There was a recent nasty security hole discovered in all versions of ubbthreads:

http://secunia.com/advisories/20242/

The initial flaw was first reported in April.

http://milw0rm.com/exploits/1814

This is a bad one that will essentially give the attacker control of the computer.  Many forums were hit by this.  My guess is the machine was hacked and shut down by the hosting company to prevent access to everyone.  Hopefully the databases were backed up.

Regarding Josh - If he installed the forums and set them up, he should have access to the machine or may have the database dumps of the forums.  It was just a thought.

Mitomac, thanks for the info on joshuapettit.com

Might not do any good but I'll leave a message.  Nothing else has worked, but maybe your suggestion will work.  Thanks.

Im sure it will be back,

Im sure it will be back, half the 'fun' of IDing there is wondering if the site will be up once you are ready to post, then wondering if it will still be there a month from now when you try to find it for reference.

What about adding me and

What about adding me and all the photos I post with 99% of my IDs to the poll?
If not, consider that my write in vote. JK.

I hope the site is back up soon. According to the post count I was only a few posts away from earning the title of "pooh-bah" which is currently only held by one person. Any guesses on who that person is??? Ok, I'll give you a hint and you can descramble it: ybriK

Hopefully we won't have to start over if all those posts go down the

That would not only be a lot of time, but a ton of useful information lost.

It's all about momentum

You old school kids and your stratospheric post counts.  Sure you accumulated some high post counts -- over the years But the momentum is all with the new guys.  For example, posts in the last week:

TeamPharmer           5
incognito               11
kirby                     24
Rawoody               34
phisher                  61

sweet:) how did you get that info from the totals over the last week.

i have to admit when i was first starting at IDTP i would do alot of "b.s." posts just to get my numbers up. but these days i do at least try to keep them meaningful.

We apologize for the omission.

We've added you together with kirby as prolific posters.  If you prefer a separate poll line item, our computer tech person will add it.

No need to apologize. I

No need to apologize.

I was completely kidding, its not a big deal. A couple people might get the joke, some might not.

IDTP will be back, unfortunately this happens all too often. There were bandwidth and non-payment issues in the past (a year or so ago), but more recently it has just been a lack of proper and prompt maintenance.

Where it used to take 1-4 days to be repaired, recently it has taken a week or more. The admin runs a couple of other boards and seems to have pushed this one to the back burner.

Rather than hackers I would say it might be more of a or a problem.
