now i know its only senerio but its the only way i could explain it, but i wanted to hear your take.
lets say i take 1-2 percocet and 1-2 zanaflex a day(which i do both of them.)
since my neurologest's took over my pain schedule i have gotten 90qty. of both percocet and zanaflex.
now this comes the senerio, i got my gall bladder taken out and had perscriptions written for vicoden, percocet, and demerol. they were all usually 30qty. bottles, and 1-2 a day.
i did the math and i came up with 7 days, i figured 3 a day for early morning, later afternoon, and before bed so i dont wake up in pain(like i did.)
with a 90qty. bottle doesnt that taken with 2 max a day still not a months supplies worth?
i recently 3 months ago rolled a car down a hill into a tree. i fell alseep and drifted off the highway, but i got out and waved a truck down. i got to the hospital and was in the icu for 2 days, i had shattered my outer eye bone, my knee, and most important my t-12 collapse.
so being worried about getting the medication as it is, i dont want to call for the perscriptions too early. if i did call i want to back what i feel, i want to hear what you think and get your take on this.
i did math on the calculator and i did 90/30 and got 3 so i took that as 30 days worth is 90 with 3 taken a day?
All of my prescriptions are written in mult. of 30 (mine are 30, 90, 120) Just go by the bottle, it'll usually say how many times to take it.. This stands true for most constant meds, now PRNs (as needed) may be different, but theres always an amount that the doc will tell you not to exceed. So find that out, divide how many pills you get by that and Viola! You have your answer.... To me if I got a 90 script, I automatically think 3x a day= 30 days
thanks, the reason i asked was because my docter hasnt told me not to exceed and didnt want to annoyingly call perscriptions in early even though they clearly date a month from the next possible refill.
I'm confused. What do the instructions on the bottle say? That should make it abundantly clear
I don't think that just because the doctor didn't tell you "not to exceed" it gives you license to see how fast you can get to the bottom of the bottle and call in early for more. Just a guess, but I think you are supposed to follow directions
do not take a pain medication unless , the pain gets intolerable, just because it says take every 8 hours, it shouls say take as needed, but they give You enough to take care of You if the need arise s, as You heal I would gradually taper, esp. if you re young.
getting old is no fun, an if You get immune early in life, they will have to knock you out, for any ailments that may develop later on, there s plenty of time to sleep once our bodies give up the ghost, I want enjoy all my family an freinds as long as I can. Woodstock
Yep. If the doc writes Q8H, than you take it every 8 hours around the clock, whether you think you need it or not. If doc writes Q8H PRN, then you take it every 8 hrs. only if needed (for pain, etc.). be sure you discuss with Dr, and take it exactly as prescribed. If for some reason, you feel you need to deviate from his/her prescription, then you need to be sure you first get permisson from the doc. to do so. That way, you CYA.
Good luck.
I'm also confused. Sometimes the directions on the bottle and the quantity do not add up. Example: take two as needed daily but you get 50 pills. The as needed means its PRN. But if the directions say take 1 pill every 12 hrs the quantity should be 60 per month. Not always. I would ask your dr how exactly he wants you to take them. Take care, htmom
