Is anyone on this board taking the 120 mg Avinza as a long acting med and if so, how many do you take in a 24 hour period.  I am just curious because I take 4 of them and they are simply a Godsend for me.  I started out with one and then two and then eventually to three and now I'm taking 4 a day and that's 480 mgs that slowly is released over a 24 hour period.  The thing is this: I haven't seen anyone say that Avinza works for them and I also haven't seen anyone taking the amount that I am either so I would like to know if there is anyone out there that takes the 120 mg Avinza.  The Dr. writes the script to read 2 po bid so that nobody questions it.  My insurance company thinks I need to have it all justified by the Dr. every three months and it's become a real pain.  I was thinking about switching meds but I really like the way the Avinza works for me.  No highs no lows just plain straight up pain relief.  You see the way this capsule works is that at first, lets use me as an example, I take 4 of them at once so at first, there is an immediate release of around 100 mgs of Morphine Sulfate into my bloodsteam. Then every hour or so, about 48 mgs of Morphine gets released into my system so that there is a constant flow of morphine that keeps your plasma levels in the same area, etc.  So, it really is a wonderful drug for those of us that tend to want to throw back a few more than we should, of whatever it is... I just feel alone in this as nobody else I know about takes this medicine.  So if anyone does, please, if you don't want the world to know, send me a PM, I just want to compare notes with someone.

THAT S A LOT

was on avinza 90mgs, but avinza is 24 hour extended release, You ll will find that the generic morphine sulfate is just as effective at just a fraction of the cost, I started on avinza, went to Ms-contin, an switched to generic morphine sulfate not one bit of difference in pain relief just cost.

I see it another way

I have been on the Avinza but every now and then I will make a switch to MS Contin and the generic MS.  I like the Avinza simply because I can take it once in the am and forget about it the rest of the day.  I'm covered till the next morning when I will take it again.  All the others, I have to remember to take it at night.  Not a big deal, just something to remember.  Luckily, I only pay $25.00 for 120 of the Avinza 120 mg capsules.  At four per day without insurance, that would run me about $1,440.00 a month.  No can do boss!!  The generic stuff costs me $10.00 a month so cost is not really significant for me but I do see your point and if I were in the same boat that you are, I would go with the Generic MS.  Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it.

Herball:

just wondering how much drug coverage do you have until the stop gap kicks in, mine with Humana is $2700, after that I pay till the end of the year, this is why I went with generic morphine sulfate so my RX coverage might not run over.

Avinza 120

Herrball, I take 150 mg of Avinza once a day.  It is great with not having the ups and downs all day between doses.  I have gotten to the point where it is only lasting about 16 hours and my insurance doesn't cover as much as yours.  My doc has therefore added 60-120mg of ms contin in evenings to supplement the Avinza and it is just enough to boost it till the A.M..

Herrball I took Avinza for

Herrball I took Avinza for about 2 years.  I took 120 mgs once a day.  After about 1.5 years it stopped working.  The dr upped me to 120 mg bid.  It didn't help, so I told him that I wanted to go back down to 120 mg once a day.  Avinza worked so well  for the 1.5 years.  Constipation was severe for me while on it.  I have tried just about everything known to man.  Now I'm on Fentanyl and it is the best(it should be) pain relief.  Believe it or not but Fentanyl, for me, does not constipate me.  Have you tried any non-opiate meds?  They really helped me.  Take care, htmom

Avinza 120mg Is My Savior......For Now

I have had a miserable life up until August 1st of this year......coincindentaly that was my birthday.  That is the day that the Avinza 120 kicked in and took me from a pain level 8 down to a 3 or 4.  I prayed to God asking for releif and somehow I found it with Avinza 120.  It works through the 24 hour period as it states it would......thats a first....lol.

My body built up such a tolerance with Oxy, Opana, Fentanyl, Demerol and on and on.  It didnt matter how much of those meds I took, I just got NO releif.  I cannot tell you how thankful I am with this new script.  I am sure at some point in the future I will become immune to it, but for now, I am living life to the fullest.

I was told by a couple of neuro-surgeons that it looked like I had Opiod Induced Hyper Algesia and I started to beleive them.  At that point in time, I was giving up on my pain meds and was ready to beleive them and begin detox  They wanted me to get back to a base level to determine my "real" level of pain.  Well, I am glad I held out for one more script.

I hope you get the results you are hoping for my friend.

I am new to Pharmer, so I am getting used to it here, but if I can answer any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

Best of luck,

Vince
