I'm going to ask this here because I have no idea when I'll get a chance to speak with a doctor or a pharmacist next.
Anyway, I have Arthrotec which contains diclofenac. I was prescribed it a while ago, before Voltaren came on the market as an OTC, which is why I didn't ask the doctor at that point. I also use the Voltaren now, and it also contains diclofenac, except it is- of course- absorbed transdermally or whatever. If I take the Arthrotec and continue to use the Voltaren, could I be at risk of overdosing on diclofenac? It's just occurred to me that I have no idea how many mgs of the stuff I'm absorbing- I glob the stuff on like crazy- and whether or not it could actually be harmful.
Neither help that much, but in combination with Tylenol 1s, it takes the edge off a tiny little bit, so it's better than nothing and if it's safe, I intend to keep doing it. (It's probably more psychological than anything, but meh.)
Thanks :) that is definitely a relief! And I really slather the Voltaren on, I probably go through a tube a week of that stuff, that's why I was afraid I might be overdoing it with the diclofenac content of the two meds combined. And you are very correct- taking the edge off often does mean the difference between say having a productive day at school or work, or laying in bed doing nothing.

You are safe to continue both with the different delevery system, the gel saves your gut a little. My Daughter has been using both since Volteren came out and has had no problems. The only thing the MD says is don't try to skimp on the gel, espec. on the larger joints. It takes quite a bit in order to get in there and help. His words, not mine, just sharing what we do. Remember, taking the edge off is essentially taming the beast. That edge is usually the difference in being functional or not.
