I will be visiting my PM doc next week about re-upping my script. He had discussed changing my meds last time; but the cost of some of these potential new meds for me cost way more than I can afford. He also knows I'm unemployed and cannot be switched to something like OC 20s due to cost.
I know other folks are in the same situation as myself. Can't afford the meds that are best for them, thanks capitalism!!! I started this post to compile a list of pain meds and their cost. What I want for this post is the name, strength, amount, cost and pharmacy (mom & pop or chain?) for the medication prescribed.
On a side note I'm prescribed #120 10mg Percocet per month. Usually taking 4 per day. Recently my dosage of 1 as needed for pain hasn't been cutting it like it use to. I was thinking of asking for Roxicodone 15mg or switching to Dilaudid 4mg but I do not know the cost of these. If they are out of my price range I would not even want to bring them up with my PM. I'm looking on not spending more than $100 per month out of pocket. Currently I'm only spending $66 per month for my script.
So here goes:
Percocet 10/325 #120 $66 Costco Pharmacy
Like before I'm interested in the cost of the Roxi 15mg and 30mg and Dilaudid in 2mg, 4mg and 8mg dosages.
I hope others will find the information in this post useful once we have compiled a larger list of medication.
roxicodone 30 mg #180 is around 250$ in south fla
norco 10/325 120 $25.00 soma 350mg. watson brand 60 $8.00 xanax 1mg. 90 $7.00 rite aid ms contin 100mg. 90 $340.00 watson brand
The 15mg Oxycodone IR that you ask about is roughly 100$ for the average quantity prescribed. Give or take 20$. Thats just what I've seen locally. I'd be prepared to spend 150$ though, just to be safe. However that being said I know a friend who paid 70$ for #150 15mg from a chain pharmacy.
Here you go. They are all mom & pop, except walgreens. Some pharms are listed twice, because the price & quantity changed. I included Opana, which I have switched to even though I know it's too expensive, just for comparison. Opana lasts much longer than dilaudid, but not as long as oxy products IMO. Good luck, as you can see, hydromorphone is fairly cheap.

Norco 10/325 (Watson Generic) #120 $83.99
Carisoprodol (Soma) (Watson Generic) #120 $55.09
These are the lowest prices in my area. Some small independents charge between $90.00 and $120.00 for the same Norco's
And DON'T BLAME capalitisim for your lack of funds. It's not perfect but it's the best system in the history of mankind!
I'm not blaming capitalism for my lack of funds, for that I blame the economy.
I blame capitalism for the price gouging that goes on with medicine in general. Sure some medicines are expensive to manufacture, but when it cost pennies for purdue to synthesis oxycodone then turn around and gouge the price of oxycontin which puts it out of my reach due to it's cost; that just makes me sick.
capitalism makes a profit. Greed just goes oink. The research costs a fortune and a lot of the money is used for newer and better drugs, I have no idea what it costs to manufacture OxyContin but I believe there is a lot of gouging going on. You don't expect Purdue to pay for their own lawsuits do you? Just my 2 cents. Greg
Maybe thats why the price is so high... all the people that sued Purdue. I personally dont see someone getting addicted if you take your Rx as prescribed. Dont chew it or take it anyother way. Dont take take your next dose earlier than what you are suppose to. I dont know how true it is, but I think these were the same people that sued.
I guess everyone will just have to wait til the patent runs out. Does anyone know when that will be?
My 1st job out of undergrad was for a large pharmaceutical company. What truly would shock the ley person is the amount of unnecessary spending on non-value-added points in the production cycle, wasteful subcontracting employee recruiting protocols, and palpable atmospheres of self-entitlement permeating drug manufacturers.
Heck, my wife is a patent attorney for new chemical compounds; and even she says all the BS expenses that get passed along to consumers that depend on meds to function is outrageous.
I ain't mad @ an administrative assistant that costs $27/hour because of recruiting vendor fees. Make you that bank, right? But how can a C-Level look herself in the mirror and tell poor 90-year-old Jane Doe-who can't qualify for medicaid-that she's got a month of alpo and ramen noodles to look forward to if she wants to participate in society without seizing in the grocery store?
60 3mg Xanax XRs cost $172 at CVS in Indianapolis. Oh yeah...and if you just quit cold turkey you could suffer a Grand Mal episode while driving in rushour traffic and potentially kill how many innocents along the way?
Ridiculous!
