Sorry to take the space as I am sure this is here someplace but for the summer my MD wants to switch me to oxy contin, I have 2 questions, What would be the dosing mg po and how many times a day? Also, I have heard that it does not come in generic form any more, As I am on Disability my RX plan does not pay for brand Again, Sorry if this is someplace else, but I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated as I want to go into the MD's with knowledge and be medicated correctly. Thanks Again, Nancie

Probably

..just south of 200mg total over 24hrs. maybe 80mg b.i.d. or to be cautious 60mg b.i.d. Just an estimate.

Are you sure they won't pay

Are you sure they won't pay for brand prescriptions even if there is no generic? Some insurance policies won't pay for brand name if theres a generic available but will if there is not...

It would seem that if its not covered it doesn't matter what the conversion would be since your oxycontin dose will be quite large and probably cost about 1500$ a month.

Otherwise FeliksD's estimate sounds about right...probably 80mg twice a day...

Duragesic to Oxi

Thanks and as far as the insurance I just got on Disability a few months ago and you have to wait 2 yrs to be eligable for Medicare which I think is horribe so I have to use our state ins. which in CT is SAGA. Not sure if they will pay they might if the MD puts in a request but you know how long that takes.I guess I could call my pharmicist(who is just about related since I see him so much lol) and ask about generic. Thanks for the time, Nancie.

Generic OC in CT

Hi Nancie,

I too am in CT, and am Rx'd OxyContin, and though I have ins, I get it in generic. I get mine at Walgreen's, and every once in a blue moon, my local one will be out of generic,  so if I don't want to pay the higher tier price for brand, I'll have them call around. I'm on 80mgs BID.

Good luck.
