Well, about 2 months ago I FINALLY found a real nice, caring, compassionate doc who took my chronic pain seriously. I've had 7 foot surgeries which 6 of them were unecessary (the surgeon admitted to me after all those surgeries that he "Gets a rush out of doing surgery.") Anyway, I ended up with Osteomyletis in my 3rd Metartarsil and had to have the Metartarsil removed, then I got MRSA then my pic line got infected and I ended up septic with 105 fevers. Anyway, to make a VERY long story short, I got a letter last Saturday from my new PM doc saying the clinic was closing it's doors for good on April 26th. I went in today to get my medical records and my meds refilled and I asked my doc if I could ask him a serious question and he said sure. I asked him if he was sick and he said he is dying from Liver cancer.....This doc is my age (45!) I just couldn't believe it. I noticed he had yellowing of the skin and I could of sworn I smelled alcohol on his breath a couple times. Still, I am so sad for him and we both had tears in our eyes when I left today. Just wanted to vent and tell someone. I know there is nothing this forum can do but I'm just pretty sad tonight and will really miss this doc.

I'm so sorrry
To find a "GOOD" doctor -is a huge challenge. To have one that has compassion and understanding is priceless. I truly am sorry for your pain, all of it, take care friend. Blueangel

Sorry for your loss, I know
Sorry for your loss, I know how rare it is to find a good doc, and especially how hard it must be to learn of his medical problems.
I know this doesn't compare as much but I just found out I am losing my doc of about 3 years. He has worked with me through all my medical problems with my arm, and has me on a regular med schedule now. He has been understanding of everything that has gone on, and helpful with all my problems.
Two months ago he told he he was leaving in 4 months b/c his rotation was up and he was going elsewhere. My first concern was that whoever my new doc would be would come in and say you're on a high dose of narcotics, I don't think you need it, let's reduce it! But I talked to my doc about this so he said he would set me up with my new doc early so that I have my regular and new doc next time I go in so the new one can be informed about everything. Also, he said since I am at the same office that the pharmacists and nurses there know everything about me so they can also inform the new doc.
I'm still worried though...
I'm a social worker, not a medical professional. All comments and thoughts are simply my opinion and experience.
