Lorcet 10/325
Question for all the chronic pain patients on the boards:
Are any of you prescribed more than 120 10/325 Lorcet/Hydro per 30 days?
THANKS!
I want to type this quick while Im typing in some other stuff: My prescriptions are written out LORCET 10/325 MG..?? Ive been on them for years and the script has always been written out that way.
Funny, I read posts on here frequently and always wondered what NORCO was exactly !
ANYWAY... the reason Im asking...
Ive been on Lorcet 10/325 QID for a long time... ALSO scribed Oxycontin twice a day... I rarely get the script for OXY filled, because I just do NOT LIKE it for some reason. I see a Pain Med Speclst... SO the months i dont fill the oxy, i have to give him the script back. Which i almost always do. I get it filled a few times a year.... SO- the reason for the original question is that i would rather have more hydro and NO oxy, and wasnt sure what the max dose of lorcet 10/325 was.
TY for your time! Jen
Well there is no technical max dose of any opiate but there is a limit doctors dont want to go above because it might get them in trouble with the DEA and get blamed for prescribing too much. So most doctors wont just give you an unlimited amount. but for your case if the doctor knows you dont like the oxycontin then ask about a couple extra of the norco. Some doctors are more liberal in their prescribing practices and would have no problem upping your IR meds instead of giving an ER med but there are other doctors who would rather have you on an extended release med. You just need to talk to your doctor about how you dont like the oxycodone and would rather have a couple extra of the norco and see what he says.
And the 10/325 is definitely a Norco not a lorcet but it is still a hydro/apap compound either way. Lorcet is 10/650 hydro/apap
Yeah, I totally plan on asking, just wondered about the max dose anyway.
Im talking like 20-30 extra per month. Not unlimited lol.
Thats crazy about the whole NORCO/LORCET thing.
Ive never ever ever ever recieved a written script from him that said anything but LORCET 10/325.
Do your written scripts say NORCO 10/325?
Completely out of curiosity !
Lortab comes in a 10/500 formulation as well as 5/500 and 7.5/500. I met a guy from Austin, Texas who showed me an RX for Norco 10/325 that was for 330 a month. I have never found a doc who will write me more than 120 so I go to three docs a month and get 120 from each one. I know that is illegal but it is just to easy to do in Houston if you have CASH so I have given in to my weakness for the time being. I am in the process of switching to an extended release CII to give me the relief I need to stop doing this. It is really expensive and I live in fear of being caught with multiple RX's from different doc's. That would mean BIG trouble here in the GULAG State! I was in CA for several months and got by with a CII baseline of 60ea 30 mg Avinza (Extended release Morphine sulfate) and 120 Norco 10/325 for BT. Just found a Doc in Baytown who is going to continue that for me so now I have to ween down to just 120 Norco a month and then I will be back on track with just one doc covered by my insurance plan. And I went through WD's from the Morphine being gone when I got back from CA even though I had the Norco running out of my ears! It was a surprise to me but it happenned. Good luck.
Yeah that is a surprise, I would think NORCO would keep the W/Ds away!
They actually prosecute for doctor shopping in CA??
Jen
I am not sure about Doc shopping in CA but they do prosecute for it in Texas which is where I am now. Good luck.
My thoughts were that he would give up the xtra hydros since im giving up the stronger med? You never know until you ask!
Do you take the 10/325s AND an extended release med too then?
Ive honestly never tried it for anymore than a few days at a time before I give up and say the oxys not doing anything! Do you think they actually help? (adding the extended relief tab)?
I can see how u ended up taking so many of the norcos, absolutely.
Its hard to not just "take a few more" when they make you feel so much better.
Ive been seeing the same doc and been on the same med for literally years. The pharmacists must just not pay too much attention to the LORCET 10/325 error. Never had a single pharmacist tell me it didnt exist or anything like that. Of course i get generics every time. LOL, no wonder since the "real thing" doesnt exist!!!!!!!!!!!!
When you consider that I can get by on 4 to 6 Norco instead of 12 to 15 by using the Avinza as a baseline I would have to say a very BIG YES to being on a CII baseline and then using a BT med as needed. You will end taking far fewer pills that way.
Well some doctors or pharmacists use vicodine or lortab or lorcet interchangabley but thye make sure they right the dose in XX/XX so there is no confusion as to how much hydrocodone and how much tylenol. Also I personally think you should give the oxy a chance. It is the best pain reliever in my opinion. It will give you the added relief and you would still have the norco if you need them.
I think you are right FRK- im going to get it filled tomorrow. After reading on this sight, im thinking i didnt give it a very good chance to work.
I am a nurse and I have never seen a lorcet with 325 mgs of tylenol? not saying it isnt so but just always seen it with 500 mgs of tylenol
I have a family member who is prescribed #240 10/325 hydrocodones. Along with #180 40mg Oxycontins. So any Dr. can prescribe just about any amount of a drug if they so choose to do so. And this family member specifically asked for the hydrocodones and the Oxycontins to be dispensed this particular way. When you see a Dr. for years this can occur.
Bad2WD, are you asking for Avinza for a baseline medicine to prevent withdrawals or to prevent pain. I can tell you, from reading the posts in this thread, it sure seems that you are wanting a CII long acting medicine just to keep the withdrawals at bay. One other question I had is concerning the Avinza. Avinza is a 24-hour, multi-phasic extended release drug; meaning it should be delivered over the course of a full 24 hours. So, if your doctor was writing scripts for 60 of the 30mg capsules, why didn't the doc just up you to the 60mg tablets once per day?
This whole thread is getting way off topic from the many insightful threads that have been circulating. Seriously, a thread about how many pills people are prescribed? Every doctor has his/her own prescribing habits, just like every patient has his/her own needs. But, if taking a CII med is being done solely to prevent withdrawals- perhaps it's time for a different approach to your pain management. It may also do some good to consider asking your doctor about Suboxone for your pain if your main motive for obtaining an extended release medication is to avoid withdrawal. Some people scoff at the idea, and others are actually on it. Suboxone has been, and continues to be, the best pain medicine I have ever been on. I'm not preaching, just saying...
gtrplayer yes avinza is a 24 hour med but the one and only time I personally knew someone who was prescribed it was prescribed BID not just once.
Also to the person who said lorcet has 500mg tylenol that is wrong....Lortab have 500mg lorcet is a 10/650
Avinza is suppossed to last 24 hours. The Doctor in CA who started me on it said it would not last that long and would start to quit working after 12 to 18 hours or so. Due to that he said he always writes it for 12 hour dosing. My Doctor here had never RX'ed it so he just followed suit until he could look into it for himself. I take it only for pain. It is the first and only extended release CII I have ever used. The WD's only lasted about 4 days and were limited to diarrea and watery eyes and sinus flow. I swear by it but have NO knowledge of other CII EX Relaese drugs to compare it to at the time being. I am\was wondering if it is being administered correctly as I have heard of some people having issues with morphine products. I don't drink at all so I feel pretty secure about using it. It gives me a pretty good kick in the early morning but fades away after about an hour and the second pill of the day has no noticeable euphoric affect at all. It does greatly reduce my Norco intake which was my goal to start out with. I think I could actually live without the Norco at all if I tried but I am a big baby and don't see any reason why I should attempt to do that at this point in time.
I know when I was prescribed Avinza, it was the 60mg capsule and it worked so-so for me. I was only on it for about 6 months or so before deciding I wanted off of it. Perhaps twice a day dosing would have made me feel different about the medication, but I was only noticing a perpetual fog and a general feeling of increased anxiety. I'm glad it works for you, though
That perpetual fog thing is what keeps me from filling the OXY, actually...
I did end up filling it, trying it one more time!
How'd it work out? Alot of people say they dont get that sleepy morphine fog from oxycontin but they get a boost of energy.
I have taken sub...to me the only pain it was good for was wd pain...absolutely no help with my actual physical pain and very addicting to boot...if i am going to take a mega power narcotic i would like it to help my pain...it is a statistic that bupe is not a good pain reliever
Well, im totally up in the air about it so far. I just started with it yesterday, taking it as prescribed- with the other meds. I do have to admit that my pain levels are ABSOLUTLEY at a level/even amount all day/night, so far. Which is the purpose of the baseline, i guess! Its definitly working that way!
I remember the last time I actually got it filled and tried it, i didnt take it right, skipped doses, all that, and It just made things screwy for me, which is why I quit filling it. TO keep the pain at a level/even amt all day is definitly worth taking the extra two pills a day.
You know another turn off I had for the oxy is the PHARMACY reaction to it! That was another reason I quit filling it. This time when I filled it I took the advice of these forums- took it to the local mom and pop....MUCH BETTER~!
Remember that a BT med like Lortab is made for that very purpose, BT PAIN. It is not intended for a person to take it every day, all day, at a consistant high level. That is why you were prescribed oxycontin, to keep you at a certain level all day, without the up's and down's. You need to give the oxy a try for several day's to weeks, before you give up on it.
Asking for 20 to 30 more pills may sound good to you, but that may not be the best idea. As your body builds up a tollerance, as we all do, than you will be looking for another 20 to 30, and then where will it end? Talk to your Dr., and give your ER drugs a chance.
Good luck...
Lorcet is hydrocodone whereas oxycontin is oxycodone. If you're taking 10mg lorcet, try taking a 5mg oxycodone. I don't know the technical answer, but from experience i do believe oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone on a milligram by milligram comparison.
It's a yellow pill with Watson 853 imprinted on it.
I do get the foggy sleepy feeling if I sit around and am inactive when I take it. If I don't get right out of bed I find I can stay there and not even go to work and not care one way or the other. I battle this when it matters by taking a viviran pill or drinking a Rockstar or Red Bull or just forcing myself to get moving. This really makes my wife angry so I have fun with it. If I do this it will pass and I feel fine.
120 pills too many, i too was on 4 loricet 10/650 an 1 perocet 10, new dr reluctant to write pain meds, i told him i had paperwork to back up the dosage, an wish i never had to take 1st narcotic that if a baby asprin would relieve pain i d switch, he seen i was sincere an credible, he told me he was nt afraid of narcotics but the 2800 mgs of apap would evenually take a toll on my liver, he ask i try avinza, time released morphine sulfate started me out on 30mgs the did good from 12 to 16 hours, he upped to 60 mgs , i believe the apap was poisoning my system i never feel fatigue no more
Hydocodone 10/325 is brand name NORCO. I used to get 240/ month. 5 refills at a time. Too much APAP. You want to stay away from the CIII's for chronic pain (with the exception of BT pain.) Over time the APAP will wreak havok on your internal organs.
I know a couple guys that are prescribed 360 a month so, but for me, well ???$*, anyone else that's just way to much APAP...if you're taking that many pills you need to switch to another medication
I had a friend who was Dr shopping here in Georgia (1st offense, so she says) and was married to a Preacher and when it came time to go before the Judge, the WHOLE Congregation was in the Courtroom saying how good of a person/mother she was and blah, blah, blah so anyway.....the judge gave her 3 years in Prison. Not really relevant to the topic at hand but just had to tell how Dr shopping can get you in ALOT of trouble!
Be careful everyone............KK
I currently get prescribed 180 norcos(10/325) a month, 6 a day. I was in a bad car wreck and at one point I was prescribed 12 norco a day. My pain has leveled out so I think I will be stuck taking 6 a day forever.
xx/325 is Norco
xx/500 is Lortab or Vicodin
xx/650 is Lorcet
xx/660 is VicodinHP
xx/750 is VicodinEX
xx/1000 is Maxidone (rare I think)
That is how the naming works. The trade name has to do with the APAP content only. There may be a few others but these are the ones I am familiar with. If your Doc writes xx/650 Lortab or xx/325 Lortab then that is wrong and the pharmacy should reject it. I have had this happen several times. The pharmacy had to call the doc and get it straight.
tell dr you re concerned with the amount of tylenol you re intaking as this is poisoning your liver an is 1 of the things that s making it hard for you to get going, i d ask for a hyro, or oxcoy ibuprohen compound, the use of flexiril used to make me feel like i was hit with a animal tranqualizer i would lay in bed just moitionless not wanting to move, i am still prescribed them, but don t take noy unless legs begin cramping badly lol, you ain t had bad pain till both inside thighs cramp at same time
Woodstock2009, "you ain t had bad pain till both inside thighs cramp at same time" , I think I might have an idea about bad pain... back broke in two places, most ribs broken, both lungs punctured, collar bone broken, scapular and other bones in shoulder broken.... I think I might know a little about pain lol.
I thought 6 norcos a day is way under the amount of APAP that would destroy your liver. I know some kind of extended release oxycodone would be better for me and my liver but since I am 26 I doubt they would Rx it to me. I have never asked for it in the first place either, I just dont want them to label me.
It gets pretty mundane to even type these types of responses since pharmer has probably the largest and most thorough collection of hydrocodone brand and generic combos in list format for everyones review but Bad2WD Maxidone is 10/750mg and 7.5/750 is Vicodin ES not EX. Also if your reading this WOODSTOCK your med is LORCET not LORICET.
Solo - You are correct. I knew I should have checked that Maxidone fact first. My memory is not what it used to be! I like the info on this forum and hate it when I turn out to be the one who posts bad info.

The 10/325 is a norco generic not lorcet. 120 per month sounds reasonable. I personally knew someone prescribed 180 or 6 per day but any higher than that is unlikely. There is a member here who was prescribed 11 per day which is 330 per month but I believe that was because he tried extended release meds and got no relief so the doctor stuck with the norco but that many is highly unlikely because they will switch you to an extended release med or at least a schedule II drug before they give you that many pills per month. .
