Hey everyone i recently had to sign a contract and had one days warning of the contract to where they can **@% test you pill count you whenever they please. So when i went to my normal docs for my oxycontin 20 then sent me to a pain management doctor because they could only see me for so long. Went to the pain management doctor the next day and got a urine test well i failed it due to marijuana and got kicked out nd lost my meds. Its been 2 months since i havent smoked its not worth doin it for sleep to loose my perscriptions for it. I found a new doctor and he realized i have no reflexes in my right leg my nerves are dead. He said i need surgery immediately but i have seen 3 surgeons prior to that they said i need it but am to young. So he suggested physical theropy i told him i did it for 8 months and my theropists made me stop due to the pain it was causing me it wasnt helpin. So he perscribed me 50mcg fentanyl patches and to tell you the truth they are working wonderfully. I am doing great i feel great i feel like i did before my MVA of course i have limits but i still feel great so he said this is the path i am going to have to stick with, i still have breakthrough pain but thats next appt. Untill i am old enough for someone to operate on me, they will do that then. So i just wanted to update it and let everyone know that DO NOT SMOKE POT they are going to make the contract a LAW so no one can abuse or sell there perscriptions which i have never done anyway i just used pot right before i went to bed. I thought i would share my knowledge with you all. My next appt. in 2 weeks i will get urine tested and i know i am clean and i am only going to stick with my perscriptions for the rest of my life and only them. Any input on a better medicine for someone my age with such pain would be great due to the fact i have no insurance and 5 duragesic patches lasting me every 2 week before each appt. cost $148. He doesnt believe in oxycontin so what would be a better choice of drug that works as well as the patches and the 20mg 3 times a day oxycontin i was on that is affordable under 100 dollars. Sorry so long and thank you for your time and input everyone... Hopefully you all have a pain free day and night like i do :)

Something to think about

I was 21 years old when this first began for me and now I am 40. When I was younger I would literally have Dr's look directly at my MRI's and other test and they would say I was to young and do barely anything!!! I emphathize with you it is difficult for some reason when you are younger or so was my expierence.  If the doctor sees the results they should treat accordingly. Keep up the good fight because the older you get the more difficult surgeries are as the body is not as resilient just my opinion. As far as meds I caution to say this but I only know of one other med that was given to me which was methadone however even though it worked for pain for awhile I do not necessarily recommend because it is very difficult to come off of due to the long life in the body for one. The patch did not work for me (it kept coming off partially, hard to shower...)  but if it does for you then I would ask for breakthrough to help and I would stick with that. I am on contract as well and get drug tested so would also recommend to anyone the same as you did stay away from anything you are not prescribed. Unless they make pot legal and your doc is ok with it then that is a no go. I am glad you found a new Dr. and are receiving help again for your pain. Thank you for sharing your story I believe it will help a great deal of people.

chronicpain20

When the PM gave you a drug test was this your first appointment?  I'm confused.  Were you getting OC 20mg from your primary care doc?  If this was your first visit to the PM then it seems that he/she would have then told you that if you test positive on any other drug screen after this one you will be didmissed.  Please clarify my confusion if you don't mind.  Anyway,  I would suggest 30mg oxycodone IR tabs.  Where I live they cost approximately 80 to 120 dollars for 90 to 120 of them at the local mom and pop pharmacies.  Good Luck

i went to my normal

i went to my normal Phyaciatrist doctor since i got my oxycontin off him so long he had to send me to pain management knowing my pain would last forever my chronic pain at that. So i went to my normal physiaty doc. He told me i have to go to a PM doctor tomarrow but had to sign the contract that day at the physiatrist then when i went to the PM the very next day i got urine tested i had 1 days warning of the urnine test. If i would of knows they were gonna do that i woulda stopped 2 months ago. When i go back in to weeks im going to be honest and tell him they are working great but when i do certain daily activities like dishes, laundry, and cleaning up the pain breaks though. What should i and how should i approach this doctor about breakthrough meds or should i x*#& it up. The breakthrough pain is very intese but does go away will an hour or 2 of rest but with breakthrough meds i could be functional ALL DAY LONG with 2/10 pain which is fantastic. Thank you for your replies i hope these recent replies will help me approach the doctor much better for breakthrough pain..

If you just started doing

If you just started doing chores again and are more active then you were then I think you should x*#& it up.  It will get easier as you do it more often.  I have never been on fentynal but Ive heard it is great for pain.  Im glad you stopped smoking because it is stupid to smoke when you could lose all your meds.

Call around to check on

Call around to check on prices for fentanyl. Im on 50mcg also and it cost $143.00 for 10 patches(cash price).  The manufacture is Mylan.   Make sure if you find a cheaper price that you call the dr first and let them know you want to change pharmacies. When you go to the appointment also tell them that you want to change pharmacies. You can never be too careful!!I have been on the same dose of fentanyl for 2 years. Good luck, htmom

Hey There

Thanks for sharing your experience.  It sounds like you have a good doc..............worth his weight in gold.  Stick with that contract to the letter.  A doc who runs a tight ship will be there for you, not shut down.  Welcome any testing as it documents that you are not abusing.  Keep the communication flowing.  Your doctor is there to educate you as well as try to keep you comfortable and functional.  Best wishes.
