Well it looks as if we are in one of those turbulent times for pain management and the new laws are begaining to take hold. Some of theese stupid, child like, back woods laws remind me of proabition from almost 100 years ago.Depending on which state you live in some of the more insane laws will limit your/our medications severly.I just read a days worth of new laws by entering "new opiod laws"in my search engine. It is frightining what a stired up crowd will choose to beleave. My doctor(who truly is a good person)tried to have me go to another doctor in my area because he has to cut back again on the ammount and strength of all pain medicnes.I told him I am to old(60)and set in my ways to change doctors now.My doctor knows of my verbal protests of any and all new drakonian laws that are not even thinkable by many of his flock.I was cut down from 40 mgs of Valium to 5 mgs and next month to zero.It is his funeral,if the great state I reside in wants another monster roaming the hills at night so be it.But BACK OFF if you try and cut my pain meds down anymore than you have allready.I take 3 60 mgs of Morphine per day and I went from 60 mgs of Oxycodone for "break thru" to 30 mgs of same.that is as far as I am willing to consider.I AM in charge. So I spend my time helping other people mostly friends and thier freinds do same.Remain in charge for the minute you show weakness your doctor will cut you down and disgard you if he/she can.And the stupid morons that think 7 out of 10 "users"started with pain pills is so foolish that it is an embarasment that anyone of our fellow Americans could entertain that as a truth is scary. If they take away all the legal pain medications the void will be filled with ilegal drugs. IF WE MAKE AS MUCH NOISE AS PEOPLE DO ABOUT OUR SECOND AMENDMENT,YOU CAN BET NONE WILL MESS WITH OUR RIGHT TO LIVE PAIN FREE LIVES.KEEP STRONG AND FOR GOSH SAKE MAKE USE OF THIS GREAT SITE HERE TO TALK AND FORM GROUPS WHO OPOSE BEING TOLD WHAT WE CAN OR CANNOT HAVE TO MAKE OUR LIFES BETTER.

Really discouraged

This is so discouraging. It makes me wonder how long it will take before the tide turns back to a more liberal stance on pain management.

Well after all I went though I got kicked out of my pain managenent program for telling the truth. After going back a few months I see thata nurse sent me a message saying "the good doctor"wanted me to cut back on my medication anyway. After 9 years they cut me loose, there is no honor  between patient and doctor anymore. All we are is another brick in thier wall.I keep forgetting they walk on water.I will and probaly allreday have found another doctor, but i liked going to this one.It does not matter we are But it blows when we have to crawl and beg for what just evens us out.I wont back down,no I will stand my ground.(Thomas Petty)

What was the official

What was the official explanation your doctor gave for terminating the physician/patient relationship, and how were you made aware that you had been terminated? There is a very specific reason, specific to the state I somehow came to believe you told us you were in based on a really old post of yours talking about lakes and beaches.

Check your private messages when you can.

offical reason for termanation

Dear gtrPlayer, there is such history that targeting an offical reason is that the doctor feels that we have come to an impass,I do not like him cutting my medications every other visit and I had a tox screen that showed something I informed he about even before it was done,my Kids came to town for my "milestone"Birthday and even as we had anagreement the good doctor wants me to go to another MD.I found at least 9 in my area that will be glad to see me.I was totaly surprised as even as I went to this guy for over 9 years I still had no idea that there wefre so many PMs as close. So there really is no one reason, just like some marirriges we had several reasons and I feel bad,his main nurse is as upset as me and he is giving me a months worth of RXs to secure a new doctor.I hope to be able to turn in the meds he gives me in exchange for new perscriptions which are more like he used to give me.....I am sorry I cant be more fine tunned but it really has upset me,it really has.RD

I saw the writing on the wall

Rocker Dan -

I knew these laws were eventually going to hit here in LoUiSiAna (mainly by lurking here), so I did a stupid thing: I took control.  I told my doctor I wanted to get off all meds (80mg Morphine ER 3 times a day, 15mg Oxycodone 4 times a day and 4mg of Zanaflex twice a day for muscle spasms).  She looked at me like I was crazy and asked why.  I had been taking these meds since around 2003, and I told her I just didn't plan on being on them the rest of my life.  I had started cutting back on doses about a month before I broached the subject and we did a 3month wean.  Basically, she cut each dose in half and on that third month, I was given Percocet 10/350 or what ever.  She gave me 45 of those.  Let me tell you how scared I was when those percocets started getting down to 10, then 5 pills... I kept 2 of those for about 3 weeks.  Somehow, just knowing they were there if I needed them.... made a difference - for me anyway.

For a month, it was hard deciding what was actual pain and what was withdrawals.  But I'm 2 months out now and feel.... ok I guess.  I know exactly where my pain is now and what makes it hurt.  IF I do have to go back on meds - and I am hoping I don't - I'm sure hoping a smaller dose will help.  At least for a while.

I have maybe 2 discs in my neck and one or 2 in my low back that are in good shape.  Otherwise, there's degeneration, spinal stenosis, bulges, herniations and impingement.  I had a hemi laminectomy in 2003 and since then I've been in a couple motor vehicle accidents.  Two doctors (surgeons) say I need a fusion, but of course my PM doc said it would do me absolutely no good.   So... who to believe -  when each has their own agenda...?

I wish you MUCH LUCK in finding your new PM doctor.  With so many in your area, you should find someone who will work with you and not against you.

Hang in there!
