i have lupus but i can see that oxy is taking over my life so im trying to get off of it i just dont know how long the WD will last.
...that may or may not be the right choice for you; only you will know. But if you've been four day without any oxycontin and you're well enough to sit and type at a computer, you'll be fine.
You might need aftercare to prevent "relapse" if addiction was ever part of the equation. Good luck.
ok i see may be the 5 day will be better
...but you should have at least hit the "bottom of the barrel" by now...it's only up from here.
The physical symptoms, while terrible, are nowhere near the mental anguish and cravings you might experience. I suggest you find some support. NA, or otherwise.
Best of luck to you. There are other non narcotic medications/ treatments for lupus. I hope you have access to a doctor who can hasten your healing.
ok i think you
the worst is over...but you probably won't feel 100% for another week or two. Just try to focus on the fact that you are better each day and it will be over soon...
Do you have any other people with you? I didn't see any mention of family or friends and it's got me hoping that you do have some support, where ever you are. As the others have already said, the worst is over. If you feel yourself starting to backslide you might try one of my old cold-turkey tricks . . . I would just sit myself down and concentrate on WHY I wanted to quit in the first place. Just keep running that reason through your head over and over and over till you feel like you did when you first made up your mind that that was the day and that was the time. You'll make it through!
If you have any support, call 'em up. If you're alone, there's always somebody here that'll listen to you. Keep up the good work and just don't give in or give up . . . OK?
Q
Yes I agree. Even tho I've never really experianced withdrawals like that, I have with other meds. Keep your head up and endure this trial. You'll come out stronger!!!!
what doesnt kill u makes u a stronger person. if u are getting thru the physical w/d nausea cramps runny nose insomnia, then that is awesome. but listen the most important step i truly believe works is a support group be it a church a na/aa group or even a one on one with a counselor or even a good friend that can see what oxy is doing to u. when u are not feeling well one day that oxy demon is going to be in ur head, but stay strong and u will suceed. also get with your doctor and find an alternative med for ur lupus. that is a road to success. youve already done the hardest part and am sure everyone on here agrees and that is to say that u recognized that oxyContin was a issue for u. well congrats in advance and stick with it. if u are feeling like relapsing come here first and u will get possitive advice on how too make urself feel better w/out the oxycontin. keep it up. i was on 320mg a day for 6/7 yrs and i did stop taking oxycontin. i found an alternative med, still opiod but nothing like the oxy roller coaster. keep in touch. if u need to talk one on one alot of us will let people instant message on this site that have or are going thru what u are.
Why are you going through the W/D's anyway? Did something happen? Were you seeing a PM Dr.?
Ya, I was wondering that too.
I really believe that once you've spent an extended time 'relying on' any man made form of opiate, you don't ever get completely back to (what's known as) NORMAL.... I think the chemical and psychological changes the brain takes on are literally inmprinted 'forever'...even tho, yes you can 'get off the medication(s)....there's 'something(?) that's just 'different about everything'....
I often wondered why 'instead of the govt's 'War on Drugs' (specifically the massive burning/destruction of the poppy fields in the middle east...why don't the wealthy pharmeceutical companies BUY ALL THE RAW OPIUM and refine it for use in their narcotic medications????...Seems as though this would be the perverbial 'killing 2 birds with one stone'...putting the money train 'out of business' while at the same time providing the pharma companies with a natural, high quality product....and therefore completely eliminate the need to spend millions & millons on that war while we are already caught up in the other conflicts there..(???)...OH, I ALSO THINK THE SYNTHETIC OPIATES ARE CAUSING MILLIONS OF ISSUES IN CHRONIC/TERMINAL PAIN SUFFERERS, WHEREAS THE NATURAL (REFINED) OPIUM USED IN ALL THE AVAILABLE CONTROLLED MEDICATIONS WOULD BE MUCH SAFER WITHOUT THE PATIENT PROBLEMS...
These are the only countries that UN member nations based on a UN Resolution says has the legal right to export narcotic raw materials to us. We also have a rule in place that says we have to get 80% of our product from " traditional suppliers" those being Turkey and India with India being the only country to collect and process raw opium all the other countries either export poppy straw or concentrated poppy straw. At this time to start buying up all the excess opium from illegal afghan farmers would be accepting of illegal activity and also flood an already oversaturated market driving down prices and messing up the finances of countries that have been doing legal business with us for a long time. Also India has a lot of checks and balances in place to restrict diversion that afghanistan doesnt and has breed there poppies to have an average of 10% morphine by weight, which isnt as high as some afghan farms but is consistant. Im not saying that I dont feel bad for the afghan people who could potentially make a decent income legally from poppies but our government has been spending a lot of money teaching them to grow other crops such as wheat and grains to give the farmers income just like we do with the coca farmers in south america. Lastly, theres not that many true synthetic opiates used for CP, most of what you are probably thinking about are semi synthetic which means that are made from one of the more than 48 alkaloids in opium.

...people can share their own trials and tribulations though. You shouldn't be that bad off. You're well enough to get to a computer on day 4?
Lucky you.
