Now we all know from recent posts of mine that mine was an unregistered NP but still I am wondering about this. Do PM docs always use you as a go between with your GP or do they converse with them ever themselves? A friend of mine goes to a PM and they do her the same way. I was just wondering as this was my first experience with anyone but a GP and I have read about people going back and forth and then my friend says she  the has to do the same thing. Just seems odd as you have to build up trust in a PM but they trust what you say your GP said.  The "NP" never asked me to but I got curious after reading and talking to people and wondered how many of you run into this.

*btw.....an add on to earlier posts..investigation started as soon as the Medical Board looked and saw NP was unregistered and there was no doctor on premises and letter to fire sent today...out on a limb for now but sure it will be ok...*

PCP's and PM

This may be another of those things where there is no right or wrong.  My PM required a written referral and medical records/MRIs from the PCP before the initial appointment.  My PCP sent me a copy of the referral letter.  In turn, after the initial appt, my PM sent a return letter back to the PCP thanking him for the referral, included a copy of my signed Pain Contract and responded with a synopsis of his findings.  He included in the letter my starting pain meds; I received a copy of this as well.  Since then, for any tests, lab or subsequent xray/mri/procedure they both send results to the other.  I freely discuss my care with both of them as I feel they are both equal partners in my health.  I know of one time when my PM called my PCP; this was discussed beforehand with me and while I don't know everything that was said I had no problem with it.  I was kind of lost in what you were asking, I hope this is close????

My PM and PCP have talked on

My PM and PCP have talked on the phone regarding my care on at least one occasion that I know of...is that what you are asking about? Whether they talk to eachother or just through the patient?

PCP, PM, and specialists - I keep everybody in the loop

My PCP gets copies of all my records from my PM, NS (neurosurgeon), GI (gastroenterologist), etc. She, my PCP, appears to keep up with all of that plus asks me about my visits with the others. I ended up at my PM after my PCP referred me to the NS and the NS referred me to the PM. Actually, the NS referred me to a GI as well. The NS and PM talked twice that I know of. As far as my PM, I saw my PM dr the first few times and for all procedures. But now I see one of two PAs for my every 30 day visits. The dr has to actually sign the oxycontin prescriptions. They don't usually ask questions about my PCP but I volunteer any changes. The PM wrote my order for phys therapy (at my request) and referred me to a counselor specializing in chronic pain patients. None of these people talk to each other, but I see my job as keeping everyone on the same page. I feel like my credibilty would be at stake if I didn't communicate for them, to the others. Like I said, I'm really impressed with the way my PCP keeps up with everything via the records she is sent.

Right...I was wondering if

Right...I was wondering if they talk on the phone or through the patient. The NP I was just with wanted me to call my GP and tell her what she said instead of her calling her directly. My GP then asked me to ask the NP is she planned on doing anything about the medications she didn't prescribe and hasn't answered about.  My GP has a problem with the way this NP is treating me and tells her that I need certain of my medications and that if she isn't going to do it then to let me know so that she can write them. Of course I can't get an answer out of the NP. It's hard to write clearly what I'm trying to ask but ..why the heck don't they just call each other?? Why don't the NP call the GP about the dosages? I'm sorry about the confusing way of writing it but they kept me confused.

I guess since I fired the unlicensed NP it's a moot point but I was still curious as to how all that works.

Some doctors don't like to

Some doctors don't like to spend any time on the phone, from what I hear.
