Basically looking for the main difference in these?  Is one cheaper than the other?  One more effective?  Safer?

I know the Ryzolt is newer; but I have been given the choice between the two, and am not sure what the pros/cons to each are.  Any input is appreciated.  Thanks.

Ultram? Ryzolt?

Hi Johnhead, that's an interesting tag. I mean no offense here guy, but why are you using two euphimisms for a toilet? Is there an inside joke? With my luck, I've probably sent you into a rage . . . sorry about that--if that's the case.

Alright, Q, stick to the subject; There is currently a thread on the "Prescription and OTC drugs" banner that is titled "Ultram or Suboxone..." that will answer some of your questions about Ultram. I have cancer and RA, for me, Ultram would be a total waste of money. Since you did not state your problem, I wouldn't know if it would work for you. My position on it is stated clearly on that thread, along with quite a few other opinions as well. I'm not familiar with Ryzolt and I've never seen it talked about on this board, though that doesn't mean much. Check out that thread for more info. Hope I didn't upset you with my tag critique, I'm not known for being subtle.

No.  You did not send me into

No.  You did not send me into a fit of rage. ;)  And it is indeed an inside joke thing.

Thanks for the heads up on the thread; I'll go check it out now.

Ryzolt is made by Purdue who is famous for OxyContin, probably why you had never heard of it. They also have an ER form of flexeril.

Maybe you are thinking of

Maybe you are thinking of Opana? A long acting opioid for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. Do a search, we have discussed it a lot. There is some information in a sticky thread Pain Medication Guide in Discussion of Prescription and OTC meds forum. The thread will also point you to specific people with first hand knowledge of Opana.

Opano(A!!!) is better than

Opano(A!!!) is better than Oxy; for who?  Sounds like yellow-jouranlism to me... trying to scare folks because we all know the social and societal stigmas associated with OxyContin.

Utram is really only good for relieving pain associated with FibroMiyalga.  Beyond that it is really just a waste of money.  Also don't believe the hype that it isn't an opiate and that you can't get hooked on it.  Truth is it is not a true opiate/opiod perse but it still tickles the same receptors in the brain.  It is even easier to get addicted to and the withdrawal from it can be worse than your standard short acting opiates.

opana

opana also doesnt last 16 hrs. it is formulated to last 12 hrs with its time release mechanism. my personal experience is it only lasts at best 8 hrs. and compared to oxycontin, i would take the oxycontin anyday. they say opana er is 2x as strong as oxycontin so say the 40mg opana er which is the highest tablet it comes in is supposed to be comparable to 80mg oxycontin. are you from detroit?as your name says. just wondering because the only time i see opana or oxy on the news is to report something negative about them especially oxycontin! the media has it out for pain meds and the number one pain med they know nothing about but think its the devils drug is oxycontin, its like a four letter word. but being in mi. at least you can find cp that will prescribe it. getting harder but there around and im not talking about the bad docs good caring ones that arent afraid to rx it to u so u dont have to run the game of pain clinics. just my thoughts. when did u hear about opana? and why where they talking about it? there are alot of people in the city that use these meds just to put money in there pocket. i understand and know its rough here but i know of people that really dont have a clue with what they are meddling in. curious why you called it opano, twice that is. may have misunderstood the news, or heard it on the street? please take no offense but like i say i never see this on the news unless its for a bad story. take care

Yep it doesn't work in my

Yep it doesn't work in my case which is Miyo Fascial Pain Syndrome which is a close cousin of Fibro.  Both my Mumsy and Aunt have fibro combined with chronic fatigue.  Ultram never worked for either of them.

Also since I stopped taking my Percs little under a month a go my Miyo pain has been off the hook.  Especially on my ends, the bottom tips, of both sides of my rib cages and down my buttocks, thighs and hams on my legs.  It get so painful I have to get up from bed and sleep a spell in my recliner.  Real bummer.  Seems like the Suboxone I take does not really address this pain, but it manages my headache pain really well. Lucky me.

OK,T-C, I've already made one

OK,T-C, I've already made one bad joke on this thread so I'll try not to make another. I take it that the Fascial part of your condition has nothing to do with the part of your anatomy that includes your nose and lips since it's your buttocks that hurt, right. Is it the inflammation of the fascia of the muscles in the areas you mentioned above? Have you tried Rolfing ? It's a sort of deep massage technique that deals directly with the fascia and, though it can be quite painful at the first few sessions, it has proven effective for reducing and even resolving the type of pain you describe. For those of you that don't know what the fascia is, it's the "silver skin" that you might notice on large cuts of beef. It can get inflamed or even sort of stiffened which really inhibits free movement of your muscles.

Do I have this right, T-C, or am I out in left field again?

Aw Chef, don't worry 'bout

Aw Chef, don't worry 'bout Woody, his bark's worse than his bite . . . though he can get pretty barky sometimes, it's true. I'm not at all familiar with the quarrel he has with you but please don't let him, or any other poster for that matter, cause you to censor or shorten your comments. This board is for everyone and judging from the old post of yours that Goat reprinted a coupla weeks ago about your accident and your agonizing struggles since then to recover some mobility (That total hip replacement, for example.) as well as your ongoing trials with CP, you are certainly qualified for a seat and voice on this Board.

I've heard a lot of good about Opana on the board, most especially from 3red3red. She's dealing with RA and switched to Opana from methadone I believe. She's had nothing but good to say about it, like yourself and Patches. The majority of the negative posts that I've read have been either second-hand heresay or quotes from unnamed news sources. Not the most reliable of posts to me. I'm sorry if I missed any first-hand posts about negative experiences with Opana, I'll keep my eyes open for them. Take care of yourself, Chef, and best wishes . . .

The only time I've EVER

The only time I've EVER experienced withdrawls was from Tramadol (Ultram). Don't go near the stuff IMO... it's GARBAGE.

Not only did it do NOTHING for my pain, I felt like the sky was falling for three days every time I stopped taking it.

Ultram is the ONLY time in my entire life that I have ever experienced true depression... I guess maybe I should thank it then, because I was always curious what exactly depression felt like. Undecided

Same Thing

So I did some research for you and Ryzolt is an Extended release version of Ultram. So basically it sounds like the doctor is offering you the same drug in a time released version. Personally I find Ultram to be very weak, I mean hydrocodone(Vicodin) is sronger than Ultram. In my opinion if the Ultram is helping with the pain relief then go ahead and stick with it, but if not ask him(the doctor) to give you something stronger.

I agree with Q

dont let anythin any other poster on this board limit what you say.  Bashing is not what we're  here for.  So by ll means put in your 2 cents worth, whether or not you think it will pee others off.

chef- you have a lot to offer

chef- you have a lot to offer this board and the people on it. The great thing about this board is that people can share their experiences with people who might otherwise not have any resources outside of their doctors to go to when they are looking for advice or just to talk. I personally don't know anyone else personally who has chronic pain and who is on pain medications. This board has become a second family to a lot of us; a  place:
"Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.

You wanna go where people know,
people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
your name."

Sorry for the cheesiness, but seriously those lyrics sum up this board for a lot of us. Cool  I hope you'll take what the others before me have said, and what I've said to heart and hope that you'll continue to share your experiences with the rest of us. Stick around for a while...you'll like it here. Wink

I think that song, cheesy or

I think that song, cheesy or no, fits this site real well, Kelly. I can't talk with my family about my cancer caused CP 'cause it scares them, it depresses them, or it frustrates them. I come here and everyone is in the same boat and we all talk about our issues with the same importance or lack thereof. I can say that I have cancer and it's no biggie, it's more like "What can we do to help you go through it." I absolutely love this site!
