Thats a question for you

Thats a question for you doctor, I am prescribed suboxone and xanax and my doc said it is okay but I only take 2mg xanax a day and the sub script was for 16mg a day.

Check with a licensed MD before you take any suggestions!

As said that is something

As said that is something that you should ask your doctor but I knew someone who was prescribed 24mg with 5mg of xanax but if you have built up a tolerance long enough to the xanax and built up to 8mg then it would be ok because my friend was put on 5mg per day on his first xanax script....no tolerance according to his doctor. He used to abuse xanax as well as opiates but never mentioned the benzo so in a sense the doctor thought he was benzo naive and prescribed him the 5mg. If you have been on it and havnt had a problem yet chances are you wont because you would have overdose/had a problem with the first dose. You should still talk to a doctor about that though.

When I fist started my

When I fist started my suboxon treatment, I was taking 32mg suboxone a day as well as 12mg xanax daily. Had no interactions, just extra sedation. It is worth noting that when I filled the rx's 120 suboxone and 180 2mg xanax, the pharmacist called my doctor to make sure she knew there was a contra-indication about benzos with suboxone. She ok'd it anyway and I guess the prolem was deaths that had occurred mixing methadone and benzos so now any strong opiate substance prescribed with a high amount of a benzo is flagged on he pharmacists computer as a possible interaction. I am now down to 24mg suboxone a 8mg xanax daily so I wouldnt worry about it.

It has nothing to do with

It has nothing to do with methadone or even the bupenorphine in suboxone it is opiates in general.  Like you said any strong opiate that is combined with a benzo has an interaction that can lead to increased respiratory depression. Even if someone was prescribed morphine or oxycontin in conjunction with a benzo it would come up in the pharmacy computer as an interaction. As to your pharmacist saying something that is what they get paid for..looking at a computer and then letting you know there is a drug interaction in case your doctor didnt realize it. They did that for my mom once with some biaxin that didnt mix well with one of her other meds even though her doctor has given it to her before a couple different times but of course they have to call the doc and double check. Also as far as I knew you could only be prescribed 10mg max daily for severe panic disorder so i am very very surprised that your doctor prescribed and the pharmacist ok'd 12mg per day

It does read 10mg max per

It does read 10mg max per day for Xanax(panic disorder) in the 2007 PDR. Most people I know which is only a few including myself receive 6mg of Xanax per day.
