Does your pharmacy carry only one kind of generic or more then one kind, for instance. I go to a CVS and they only carry mallinkrodt's generics. Well, that's all I've ever gotten. Just wondering. I've had watson's a long time ago but not as of lately. Thanks for answering!!
Like Ray said, it varies. For example, your CVS might carry Hydrodone/ APAP in a 5/500 dose by Watson, and at the same time their 7.5/750 dose might be by Tyco/ Mallinkrodt Healthcare.
It is not as though the pharmacies have contracts with the manufacturers of generics...
My Mom & Pop shop orders whatever I want just for me. They normally carry watson patches, but order mylan for me every month as an example. When I first interviewed them, they said just call a day before and remind them what I will need, dosage and preffered brand and it would be ready by noon the next day. After 2 - 3 months, I don't have to call anymore, it's always there. If I have a new med order of something they don't have or a preffered brand, they have it by noon the following day versus Walgreens 3 - 14 day wait if they were out. I think I've died and gone to heaven!
Wow mom, you have it made. Haha. I guess it's just chance that I get the mallies. Does anyone know what brands wal mart has? They are a massive chain I would assume they have a contract with someone...
That is great you found a mom-n-pop like that. I have been going to the same Right Aid for over 10 years, before it used to be an Eckerd Drug, and if I need anything, they do not have on the shelves they get it for me by the next day. All the people that work there know me by name. I know my pharmacy is out-of-the-ordinary, for chain stores but they are the BEST I have ever used. One time I needed something right away I went to a different Right Aid down the street, and they had a nasty attitude and ended up shorting me three pills. I called back and they said they counted it 5 times, which there is no way I would believe that, what a waste of time. My pharmacy has gone out of their many times to find a medicine I needed and called other competing pharmacies to help me.
It depends on your drug/strength.
I'm currently prescribed oxycodone 30mg IR. Wal-mart and CVS have always given me Malli's. Walgreens has always given me Amide. That is not to say those places only carry that type, just my experience. Needless to say I will be using Walgreens next month..
At the Walgreens I go to they pretty much use Watson for all the medications I use, hydrocodone, morphine sulfate, but for alpazolam they use actavis, Its been the same as long as I been going there.
for my fentanyl patches tho....All of the chain pharmacies, including the university pharmacy at my doctors office will not order a specific brand for me. There is a pharmacy in the next town over that will order the Mylan brand of patches at my request. I think A Mom will agree that Mylan beats all the others, including the brand name Duragesic, hands down.
Ray
I also agree Ray, Mylan is the BEST!!! Take care, htmom

it boils down to what's cheapest that month...I go to a university pharmacy and the have something different every month...An example is Duragesic, some months they have the brand name, Duragesic, made by Janssen Pharma. and others they have the generics, Watson, Mylan(THE BEST IMO), Teva(the worst IMO). I'm not sure how their system works.
