I was wondering (I'm gonna call my doctor tomorrow to make sure but I would also like to hear from the experienced people on here). Is it alright if I adjust my dosage of Suboxone? Adjust as in lowering it when I feel like I dont need to be taking such a high dose? I'm supposed to be taking 4mg twice a day, but for some reason 4mg is too much at night and keeps me up so I lowered it down to 2mg at night and I feel like I could sleep alot better and I'm not having withdrawals or anything. I even considered just dosing 4mg once in the morning as I feel I may not even need that extra dose at night. I'm under the impression that alot of people just take this medicine once a day, is this true?

Any input is appreciated as always, thanks.

Oh by the way. This may be kinda gross but I've looked around on here and haven't found a good answer so I'm gonna ask. Whats good for opioid constipation? I've been taking Miralax for the past 2 days and drinking alot of water (about 6 glasses a day) and I could only go alittle bit right before I took my second dose 12 hours after my previous one. Would cutting back to one dose of Suboxone help this? Or am I just being impatient with the Miralax?

Sorry, this is a very loaded post in terms of the amount of questions I'm asking. But like I said, any input is appreciated.

There have been many suggestions

here as that particular problem is quite common.  As Goat says, it does take some time for Mirilax to work.....for me (and as others have suggested), there is no better substitute than increasing your daily intake of fiber.  A favorite of mine is lunch of....1/2 cup low fat or plain yogurt, 1/2 cup granola, 1/2 cup fruit (any kind, blueberries and rasberries are my fave) and a handful of nuts....(walnuts, pecans, almonds).....if you will have this for lunch 3 or 4 days a week, nature will work....if you want to add 1/4 cup faxseed, it works faster

As for the changes to your meds, I can't personally speak for the drug you ask about....it is though never smart to change your prescribed dose without checking with your doctor.  Besides being potentionally dangerous (for some meds), most PMD don't like patients who think they know best.  Best of luck though in wanting and seeing the need, for tapering

3red3red is right on the money, as usual . . .

Good to hear that you're trying guy, but with suboxone, Dr. knows best. I can barely remember being twenty, I turn 55 next month, but I do remember a feeling of omnipotence . . . what a fool. You know what a jam you got yourself into following your own rules, right? Why don't you try following your Dr.'s orders for a bit. Sure, he might be wrong. After all, he's only human . . . Q

PS:  Enter "Constipation" on the search engine, you'll get more advice on opioid caused constipation than you ever thought existed.

3red3red's lunch

3red3red's lunch recommendation is an excellent nutritional mixture of fiber, antioxidants, probiotics, omega3 fatty acids and essential oils. What a power charged little meal, and sounds delicious!

For irregularity I find colace, a softener, takes care of the problem 100mg twice a day along with tons of water. The only thing you need to make sure of is that you dont take bulk fiber like the Metamucil capsules, that will just clog the pipes up more.

miralax

bstoned,

I found you will probabaly need at least 4 days or so for miralax to work.  I also found if you skip a day, it is basically like starting all over again, and need another few days.

If you are reacting that way

If you are reacting that way to Suboxone already then that is good.  It is ok to adjust downward you dosage for medications like these.  Never up!

I say if you want to go ahead and try the four milligram in the morning like you want to.  Youl shouldn't have any problems what so ever.  It will take a few days to figure it out since the Buprenorphine has such a long half life, around 37.5 hours.  But if you are doing ok after your second day of four milligrams just once in the morning then that is good.  I'm still doing 8mgs three times a day.

for constipation

You need to eat more salad, watermelon, oranges will really help, a drop or two of mineral oil , but never use no more than a 1/4 teaspoon, i took a 1/2 teaspoon one day that nite I ended up sitting upright in bed an barely was able to walk to the bathroom.

I tell patients to always

I tell patients to always call before adjusting their dosage even if they want to adjust downward, and usually approve patient initiated suboxone dosage adjustments, but call your doctor first.  A larger dosage in the mornign and less or no dose in the evening may help.   As for constipation,  my 2 cents include using Milk of Magnesia as needed along with the miralax and Fiber One cereal every day for fibre.   Best of luck.

Q,

X2 on your comment on "feeling omnipotent when in 20's" and in retrospect feeling foolish. For me, foolish is an inderstatement.
