hey friends, havent posted in a while...
well, long story short, I ended up prescribed on about 80 - 100 mg of oxycontin a day.
my doc. prescribed me 10mg methadones 2 timea day, chewable tabletrs.
I want to get off All my medications..
For instance, today Ive only taken 10mg of methadone, ive been doing this for the past week,
no more oxycontins, I do have 5mg IR at my disposal, but as I said I want off..
now this week, Ive had horrible headaches, things feel vivid, and dreamy, nasuea, aches in my eyes, just overall feel HORRBIBLE...
I also am prescribed 1mg klonopins, can anyone tell me or give me some advice about what Im doing trying to wean off? my next doc. apt isnt till the 15th, which is when Ima try to get on suboxone... but 10mg once a day of methadone comming from 80 - 100mg of oxycontin a day good? or is there a better less painful way to do this? thanks friends..

For someone who is not used
For someone who is not used to methadone its not a good idea to mix in the benzo's this is how a lot of methadone nieve doctors od people and how a lot of methadone nieve patients od themselves. Also I agree with tacet, 10mg methadone is not enough to balance out 80-100mgs Oxy. 10mg Methadone once you build up a level dose in your system is only equal to 24mg Oxy, and personally I dont think it feels like 24mg Oxy but will definitely hold off wd's from that amount. If your doctor is replacing the oxy with methadone for pain methadone is most commonly dosed every 8-12 hours, so 10mg BID is a good place start like the script is for. In methadone nieve pt's Methadone is usually started off between 15-30mg a day divided into two-three doses and dont increase your dose by more than 5-10mg every 4-7 days since it takes time for the methadone to build up in your system before the amount in your system starts to overlap and you start feeling the commulative effect. Stick the coarse take the two 10mg a day doses as prescribed and you will feel a lot better and the doc will probably increase your dose at your next visit instead of switching to sub. One last thing, there are no chewable Methadone tablets, atleast in the US and Im not aware of any in other countries. Both the Methadose and name brand and generic from Roxane will start to dissolve pretty fast in your mouth but they are not chewable and are made to be swallowed whole. If you are letting a lot of the pill dissolve in your mouth you may not be digesting and metabolising the Methadone properly and they may work better if you swallow them.

thank you guys for your replies.
well since they gave me the methadone on the 17ths, to tell you the truth, I wasnt taking them as prescribed, and I was abusing... but I am so done with that! I just want to get off meds 100%, ive noticed my mood has changed and my attitude, and my energy levels and everything is different...
and I never take methadone at the same time as my klonopin, I take the methadone in the morning, and I take the klonopin at night, I never had a problem with them before, and Im use to some sort of "high" levels of oxycontin in my system at once.. I guess methadone and oxy are totally different substances?
the doc replaced my 80mg oxycontin a day with 10mg methadone twice a day every 12hours..
see my doc prescribed for pain management, but I just want off.. you know?
see I just want to get clean off all these meds and move on with my life, Ive only been on oxys since about febuary or march so its not that long, how long do you think till Im clean???
my doc said I could break the mathadone in half and take em like that if Im not feeling good taking them..

No way of telling how long
No way of telling how long until you are clean. That is only something you can determine by yourself. It's not like you will wake up one morning after not being on anything for a month or two an exclaim "I'm clean"; wish it worked that way but it does not.
You more than likely will not be able to take those klonopins when you start suboxone. I've seen on other forums where people abuse mass amounts of everything do so, just saying it is wise not to so don't do it.
Remember what I told you earlier about going from methadone straight to suboxone; it can be dangerous since you need to be in a state of mild to moderate withdrawal. And doing that with methadone can take awhile to do. Much longer than if you were coming off of oxycodone, hydrocodone (et al) or some other short acting opiate. So remember to ask your suboxone doctor about doing so. If he says there shouldn't be that big of a deal I would immediately seek another opinion from a different suboxone doctor.

chewable methadone?
Okay...I have seen and taken Methadone for many years...I have never heard of chewable ones. I have had the 40 mg. wafers in pinkish and in white..I have had the 5 mg. pills, and the 10 mg. tablets....even had the liquid...but never the chewable kind.
What about everyone else?

Glad to hear from you, glad to hear you re kicking the oxyi habit
the Methadone will give headaches, some nausea, try some pepto bismuth , it be good for nausea an any diarhea if any develops.
taking klonopin with methadone is something You should consult with your pain management Dr. with, there are some people having better luck with a antidepressant called Paxil short for Paroxetine about changes in mood, but its something that You an Your Dr. must discuss.

klonopin and methadone
so everyone is aware.. as I said in my last post, I dont mix the klonopin with the methadone..
If or when I do take the klonopin, I dont take the full 1mg, I usually break it in half, or have like 75% of a 1mg, and its never around the same time as the methadone.. I tell you, these methadone Scare me.. its a totally different feeling then the oxys..
the first week they gave me my methadone, I was graduating from my nursing school, so before graduation I took 20mg of methadone, and 10mg of oxy, oh my god, I felt like I was going to die, literally.. I didnt feel good at all.. I went and drank a bunch of water, and jumped up an down to get my body going I WAS SO SCARED, that same day was the day my friends told me I need to get off the methadone, that its a really nasty drug and people get so addicted to it, and OD on it so easily... his family experience is where he got this info...
But I tell you, since Im not a zombie for the oxys and the methadone anymore, and my tolerence is lowering slowly, and my body is re-establishing itself more and more, I feel better, and more happy and outgoing and people have noticed it too.. they said I was very robot like over these past feew months.. if only they knew I was living around these oxys and morphine pills...
I even told my mom Everything, and how excited I am to get clean and off this &??$, I had my fun I said, and its time to start working and being a real person again.. I guess I kinda just gave up on life for a little bit.. the sad part is, there have been so many times IVe thought about just taking ALL my oxys or morphine pills and just going to sleep...
I cant believe how miserable I was... I really need to be more happy and grateful for my life, cus some people have it so bad...

Are you gonna do the same shtick that you did last Spring, HG? We give you our love and our advice and then you just keep saying "Gee, I dunno . . . maybe you're right but, then again . . . " Please make up your mind young man, there's a great big beautiful world out there all full of life, love, and adventure. You've written that your basic complaint is a rather painful type of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, am I correct? As you know, I have cancer but so what? I sure as heck don't let the fact that I have a painful as well as terminal disease stop me from enjoying every bit of my life. Come on good buddy, lighten up and enjoy life fer Chrissakes . . . yer only 20 years old. You are withdrawing from opiates that is for sure and the methadone is not keeping up. If you give yourself atleast one good week, or more, you should stabalize at that 10mg a day of methadone. However for right now it is too small of a dose.
You say you want suboxone and that is good. It will be more expensive than the methadone, until it goes generic which could be tomorrow or next week. Even when that happens methadone will still be cheaper.
Now my doctor who gives me suboxone, and who also prescribes folks methadone aswell if they want it, will not give someone who is taking methadone suboxone straight away. Something about both opiates being so long acting and that you have to me in mild to moderate withdrawal to start suboxone that it isn't a good idea to to go directly from one treatment to another. He usually transfers folks to oxycodone from methadone for a few weeks before starting suboxone because of how insanely long methadone stays in your system. This is something to think about and also to ask your suboxone doctor about before starting. You would more than likely have to stay off of methadone for four to six days before doing suboxone because it could throw you into precipitated withdrawal; and that x*#&s and should be avoided.
