Hello Everyone!

I am a new member as of today but, have been using this site for many months now.  I have Sarcoidosis, Lupus and Rhumatoid Arthritis and I am perscribed Hydrocodone 10/500 for the pain.  My pharmacy switched generic brands.  I used to get the Watson brand (oval blue pills) but, this time I was given the Qualitest (oval pink pills with V on one side and 3600 on the other side) brand.  I do not have a complaint about how well they work but, they leave behind a terrible taste.  I make sure to drink plenty of water when taking my medication but, I cannot seem to get the nasty taste out of my mouth.  I also noticed when I opened my bottle they have a strong smell.  I guess my question would be.....Has anyone else experienced this and if so does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the taste out of my mouth?  I have tried eating crackers, chewing gum and mints just to name a few.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

Help with the taste

I have always used orange juice in the past to get rid of bad after tastes associated with medication. Give it a try, it may work for you too.

I take prescribed

I take prescribed hydrocodone  and also use juice to improve the taste. I finally chose Dole orange, strawberry, banana juice. Its been a great flavor for covering any bad or bitter taste while taking my medication, (or) their orange, banana, pineapple also works very well. Smile

Sorry I didn't post sooner

I just wanted to give you something else to think about. In another post, you said you were on humira and methotrexate. Methotrexate can cause many problems with your mouth. Is the taste only there when you take these pills, then goes away? Or did it start around when you started the pills and has stayed since? It is very common to get thrush when on methotrexate, which will cause a bad taste, thick saliva(or thick, dry pasty feeling), burning and other symptoms. It can also cause other problems orally, it speeds up tooth decay because it changes the acid make up of your saliva, it causes ulcers in your mouth and on your tounge, and in your nose, many other problems too. I know you said you were going to stop going to your rhuemmy in the other post, but you might want to mention this to him/her so you can get it treated. If that ends up being whats going on. Good luck.

Lunesta®: That's probably the worst for taste! But try this...

Drink something acidic (NOT HYDROCHLORIC ACID OF COURSE), like Orange Juice, Or Soft Drinks, Even Thought They Aren't That Healthy, They Contain Carbonic and Phosphoric Acid. Look For Food That have acids and that will neutrilize the basiscity. If you don't like bad taste (I.E. Bitter or Metallic) than do not take the drug Lunesta® (Eszopiclone). H+ = Acid: -OH = Base: When you bring them together, you get a bond, HOH, or H20, which is Water (Dihydrogen Monoxide)... That's the chemical name for Water... Take care!
