I dont know if it is just my area or not but buying meds at the hosptial pharmacy is a lot cheaper then buying at a CVS, Walgreens, etc. The difference was huge, for example at target it was $21 for 60 1mg klonopin and at the hopital pharmacy it was $17 for 90 2mg klonopin. I was able to get my generic oxycodone 80mg ER filled there witht the brand I wanted (watson) for $3.65 per 80mg pill where all the other pharmacies had generics I dont care for (teva, endo, etc.) at almost double that price.
The reason for the post is for anybody trying to save some money to check out the hospital pharmacies.
I have seen the pharmacies in both of the hospitals we have in town, and they are both in the basement, secluded from the rest of the hospital. From what I gathered, they don't fill prescriptions that are to leave the hospital. I know this may be because I do not live in a "large" population area, but they are both decent sized. One pharmacy is next to the heart cath lab in the basement, the other is downstairs next to the shipping/receiving docks. I know that many hospitals do have pharmacies to dispense medications, like meds in the middle of the night to ER patients who are going home, but I just never have seen them fill a prescription from a non in-patient, patient. Just my observation, I'm sure it differs from city to city.

In my area I am surrounded by hospitals. You are correct, they do have an in-patient pharmacy and all the hospitals I have seen have an out-patient pharmacy also. Obviously you can only get scripts filled at the out-patient pharmacy if you are not a patient in the hospital. It is worth a phone call for some of you that are paying a lot for meds. It is a call I made that saves me hundreds a month on meds.

Thanx. This is great news. My dad takes a zillion meds and he will try the hospital pharmacy next time. He always thought they charged too much like when he is a patient it's $25 for aspirin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
