I was wondering if anyone on this site suffers from migraine headaches and if so can they offer any suggestions on any treatments or medications that have helped them to recieve some relief. Thanks.

help for migraine

I hope one of these might assist you. On the first, ask your doctor if he thinks you may benefit from this drug. I have had migraines for years and take DEPAKOTE. I took 500mg twice a day to prevent them. I could almost tell by stress when one will most likely be coming. THIS IS A PREVENTION medicine. Tell her to talk to her doctor whether or not a preventive medicine is needed. I am not a doctor and must advice you of this fact. I also no longer suffer from them. :)

The other that I found extremely pain relieving is BeKoool. Yes, it has 3 ooo's. I have given to friends that have suffered migraines and they have loved them. It is an adhesive cool strip that needs no refrigeration, so I carry one in my purse. You can search "Migraine BeKoool" on the internet to find a store that sells them near you. Best to your wife...I can cerrtainly empathize with her.

UNFORTUNATELY...

UNFORTUNATELY....THIS IS MY AREA OF EXPERTISE. I was in a severe industrial accd. I sustained brain damage...a closed head brain trauma- the brain rattled in the cerebral fluid there in the skull and was damaged as it bumped off solid skull- I suffered/suffer severe headaches/brainaches that become incapacitating at times and unfortunately there are a number of meds that you need to try til you find what works for you...b/c Imitrex and all those fancy headache drugs do nothing for me- through trial and erorr i have come to utilize neurontin, depakote, - compozine and phenergan for nauesea- then lorcet for break thru headaches-

my neurologist- world renowned...out of W. Palm Beach Florida and NYU educated has a co. called Premiere Research Institute for technologythat concentrates only on developing and testing headache meds- the number is (561) 845-0500 call, it may change your life!

-Good luck

Imitrex

I agree about the Imitrex!! The best way I can explain how it makes you feel is that you start to feel like you have metal running through your veins! NOT a good feeling. I have heard that Cymbalta or Migrin-A work well however I have no personal experience  with that

I was reading a little

I was reading a little about this awhile back and may be worth checking out, or may not. Like Capt said, trial and error.

Topamax is also now an approved treatment for migraines. It is commonly used for migraine prophylaxes (prevention). Topamax is taken everyday and is used for prevention where as Imitrex, Maxalt, etc are taken at the onset of a migraine.

I too have problems with

I too have problems with migraines and after trying several meds, I finally found a regimen that works well for me. I take Midrin 2 capsules at the start of the migraine, if in 30 minutes it is not any better, I take 1 more Midrin and I add a Lorcet to the mix. I'd say 99% of the time, it works and I do not have to go any further with the meds. My doc is great about working on "receipes" as he calls them in order to get and keep the pain under control.   Good Luck and keep working with you doc to get the right regimen for you!

question about midrin

Hi.   What is Midrin, and is there any significance to the "2" after the name of the medicine?   Is this OTC?

Thanks

Carlos, are you referring to this post, when you ask about the significance of the '2' after the name Midrin?

Because the way I understand this post, he is saying that he takes 2 Midrin at the start. Not saying I take 'Midrin 2'. Make sense? I guess there should have been another comma in between "midrin, 2 capsules, at the start"

Midrin is not sold over the counter, it is Rx only.  Learn more about Midrin at Drug Digest.
