I've been taking Darvocet for years now and just the other day my docotr told me it was being taken off the market by the FDA? Is this true? I haven't heard about this anywhere else.
He said I won't be able to get it at my local pharnacy anyway. Is there anywhere online that I can get it? I know a lot of people order their meds online but I've never done that before. So I don't know what sites are trustworthy and which aren't? If someone could help me find an online pharmacy that I can order it, I would be so grateful.
...talk of taking this medicine off the US market for decades.
Well thats what my doctor told me. So does anyone know where I can get it online?
This is the kind I take: http://pharmaceuticals.mallinckrodt.com/Products/Product.asp?ProductID=5402

can't your doctor change your meds? you may get better relief from a different med anyway
I myself do not take Darvocet but last month at my monthly visit my doctor did mention in conversation that the goverment was taking it off the market! I did not ask why but I have great respect for my doctor and his knowledge. I hope newbie8586 that your problem will be resolved and possibly another pain med to replace the Darvocet. Best of luck from a chronic pain patient.
I have heard that it is going off the market also. IMO it is not a very effective painkiller at all. If Darvocet helps you and they do take it off the market talk to your Dr. about Ultram you would get better pain relief and less side effects.
OF THE INSTANT RELEASE OF DAROVET, REALLY ASK DR FOR ULTRAM OR 5MG HYROCODONE AN CUT IN HALF
Darvocet has been a horrible drug for years. Propoxyphene is seen as ineffective in treating pain. As such, the FDA is banning its production in the US. This is based on the opinion of the medical community, who advise the FDA. They are not changing the Schedule of propoxyphene to my knowledge; they are just banning domestic production.
I recommend the Ethex 30mg immediate release oxycodone, they will help your pain much more effectively than Darvocet. Personally, I can't take more than 2 Darvocets without feeling nauseous and dizzy.
Basically, its an old drug that is out of date, never really worked anyway, and going out of production in the USA.
IT WORK SOME BUT, NOT AS GOOD AS IBUPHROPEN
It is not off the market yet, so you should be able to get it at the pharamcy and dont need to get it online. Even in the UK were they withdrew it, doctors where still allowed to Rx it to people with a long history of the med working and were given a time frame to discontinue, a phased withdrawal, but not to new people once the phased withdrawal took effect.
Imprintman, are you mental or just kidding? This person is happy with the effects of Darvocet and you recommend them switch to 30mg Oxycodone? This is equal to 1200mg or Propoxyphene (darvocet). To someone who is pretty much opiate nieve, 30mg Oxycodone is dangerous and irresponsible to suggest. Also, Ethex isnt currently making medications since all there products were recalled. They were also selling almost 70 meds they never received approval for, this on top of there extremely poor quality leads me to never trust this company again.
Next to none of the information in your post was accurate. If you lack knowledge on a particular subject, it is best to hold your tounge, lest you do someone harm.
How about recommending the OP convert directly to Fentanyl?!? No need for the high dose oxyIR. Come on guy...
I took some darvocets a long time ago(they were prescribed to me). I was opiate naive. With that being said they NEVER helped me. No relief at all. So I'm glad it helps some. Hope all find a new replacement that helps just as well. Take care, htmom
I am an early retired disabled veteran. I was in the the Army for 12 years and deployed 4 times. Once to Afganastan. I have chronic pain I can assure you and I take Darvocet and have for some time. I think it x*#&s to begin with but nor do I want to get hooked on something crazy. If my doctor doesn't give me something to replace my pain meds with then he will be hearing from my congressman because the Patient bill of rights clearly states that EVERY PATIENT HAS THE RIGHT TO BE PAIN FREE. I intend on staying that way. It's bad enough to be 35 and disabled, but I won't tolorate being in pain to boot. What are they going to replace it with?
I don't want to have to take a different painkiller. This one has been working fine for me for over 10 years now.
So what I really want to know is if there is anywhere I can get it online? Can anyone point me in the right direction?
You will more than likely be out luck with getting darvocet when it is discontinued! Like said before there is Ultram which to most of us is considered a punchline to a one line joke. May work for you. Then there are Vicodin and T3 codeine which would be a more logical step.
if you got your dr to write you a hyrocodone 5/whatever apap , an cut in half, you will be perfectly fine, even at 1 a day or 1 every 12 hours , just ask Dr. if they discontinue something its gone, you will need something if you re in pain, its my personal opinion that the reason darovet is leaving is that Dr.s are getting away from medications with too much fillers that damage liver an kidneys, i can respect you wanting to remain on something that has worked for you for 10 yrs. Just went an done some reasearch on darvocet, actually its main pain killing ingredeint is apap, like in truth in advertising whatever the main ingredeint in the product you have to list it 1st, this is the case of darvocet if i go to the grocery store an get a package of say turkey an gravy, by law there has to be more turkey than gravy in the product, if you decide to change nothing will be changed but the codiene be a touch stronger, anyone out there who agees give a amen
analgetic potency:
morphine = 1
dextropropoxyphene = 0,05
was taken from the market in my country, none missed it.
could be replaced with DHC in pain management instead of poisoning
people with that substance. it has some kind of "must be good, cause
it's quite similar to methadone" - reputation. but comparing the molecule
strutures with each other in 3D doesn't show that much congruence...
or saying it in the druggie style: D-Propoxy is more far away from methadone
as pseudo-E is from meth.
D-Propoxyphene has shown negative effects on the heart (because
of cumulating in elderly), has bad side effects on liver and kidneys.
that is no medical advice, just an opinion plus some researched
information from the internet (almost german sites about pain manage-
ment and opiate info).
i think there are very few indications, eg when this substance is the
only one that helps on migraine / other kind of headaches.

The FDA was advised by an FDA Advisory Commitee to ban propoxyphene, however I do no think it has been banned at this time.
