I recently met with our suboxone phamaceutical rep who told me that the DEA plans to visit all suboxone certified doctors. The nature of the visit, what information they are going to collect, and the reason for the extra scruitiny is not known at this time.
It's only an eight hour class?
Well just as long as my doctor can keep on prescribing them. I would really be p1553d if I would have to find another doctor 60 miles away to work with. There are only two here in town. The other doctor I didn't see wouldn't be in town until the 12th of next month. So the only other guy could get me going right away. I was finally fed up with percocet and having to get more every month. I wanted to come off of them completely buy going through withdrawal a second time was not an option.
You dont really have to even take the 8 hours class, thats just one way you can prove you are qualified. http://buprenorphine.samhsa.gov/waiver_qualifications.html
Its possible they are just doing data collection pertaining to the actual practise of office based addiction medicine, this a very new concept in the US that has been around in other countries for years. Im sure they will probably tell the physicians about Suboxone going off Patent in October as well. Hopefully the DEA does come around and finds out how easy it is to prescribed and monitor most Suboxone patients that truely want off prescription meds and arent just getting it as a "weekend Pass" replacement for illecit drugs or for detox off street drugs. Im sure the costs associated with doctors who do cash only practises for Suboxone but accept insurance for everything else may come up, although this is currently accepted and not illegal it is IMHO unethical. It would be great for the DEA to see that MD's and I suppose DO's who arent totally incompetent can easily handle prescribing Suboxone as long as they work in conjunction with a therapist like they already are suppose to be doing. And since its going off patent and the flood of generics will soon hit the shelves it would be awesome if the DEA and SAMSHA would allow all doctors to prescribe it reguardless of the extra 8 hour class or other pertinent training.
