Just wondering if anyone thinks that we should start rationing what meds we can now in preparation for the future?  I'm not wanting this to be a pro or anti Obama debate.  Just everyone's opinion on what will happen under a socialized medical society?  No matter who puts it in place.  Whether today or 10 years from now.

I don't understand your question.

You have eluded my grasp on your intended meaning, elusive2u. Would you explain what you mean by "we should (or should we, better) start rationing now"? How are we to ration that which we do not control? If you mean "We the People" I don't think they have a chance. If you mean "We the Power Brokers" then, maybe they will. Which we and which they is much more important to me than Pro or Anti President Obama. I'm Pro Obama and Anti Power Brokers myself.

the U. S. Goverment

goes all over the world an spends trillions on everybody brother in every nation

if a unisured person walked into a emergency room with a appendix about to burst, it should be done, an if the person could nt pay, then the hospital should produce a bill of laden to the IRS an get a dollar for dollar, tax break

the same thing with private clinic s an dentists, if they produce a bill they get a matching tax break, esp. if they go out of their way to have like 2 days out of the month just for uninsured

peace out Woodstock

No

It will not be socialized medicine. Just an option for people that don't have private or state insurance.

I Live in a part of the country that is proud of its hertiage

I was a UMWA coal miner for 11 yrs of My life, My Dad had 20 yrs under his belt, My Grandfather helped orgainized an formed the 1st locals from Feds Creek Kentucky to Harman Virginia, in my Grandfather an Dads day it was a proud label in these hills for a man to say that the Union stood up for the Miners for decent work hours, wages an many a child was covered because the UNION always negoiated insurance in their contracts, anyone working in the coal industry or power plants could belong to a local called local 50, it was desitated for workers other than regular miners that wanted to be part of the Union.

these truck drivers that haul coal, to power plant employees, sometimes school teachers too would join because some coal camps had a company teacher, doctor, grocer (thats where they got their money back), they pay 2 per cent of their monthly wages to be a member, with that they received a insurance card, an thats what everyone was after in that day.

this country is not gonna get out of this rut until, the nation finds someway to bring big oil down to their knees, this is the reason that the layoffs are taking place in Michigan an OHIO, no one can afford to buy a new car because they barely can buy the gas to go to work, to put food on the table thats in a house thats almost ready to be foreclosed on.

Congress is in a rut not knowing which way to turn, all Obama has to do is walk in an address both houses of congress at the same time an say.  nobodys health bill is gonna get paid until you find a way to pay for the uninsured, if a Congressman or Senator got his health plan cut , they may wake up.

Federal Health Plan

It's criminal that the people I talk to at the IRS and SSA don't have to worry about their Health Ins. 'cause they have the best plan in the nation. I might be wrong, but I don't think that they have Medicare payments withdrawn from their salaries. Anybody out there know the current status of the Federal Employee Health Plan?.............Q

NO, the best way to get FREE

NO, the best way to get FREE HEALTH CARE is to be an illegal immigrant. They get absolute free health care because they havent paid one dime in taxes to the U.S. EVER. When they have a child in our nation then the bill is paid by the American taxpayer. Then after that they get government assistance and health care for them and their child. I dont see how when both of your parents are not citizens and you are born here that makes you a citizen.

When I had my auto accident they had a social worker come and talk to me. They were trying to maybe get a charity to help pay my bills or something. But somewhere in the conversation the social worker said, "This would be so much easier if you were an illegal alien because you wouldnt have to worry about paying a dime"

Woodstock, who are you listening to?  All the environuts?

For your information, it's not Big Oil.  It's all the people who don't want us to use our resources.

And, most importantly, it's the unions who have absolutely made the American auto companies non-competitive.  It's not oil.

The unions destroyed the auto industry here.

Alaska, offshore California and many other locations in the USA have gobs of oil easily drilled.  And we have oil shale that's now economically extractable in states such as Wyoming and Colorado.  We have the technology but are not allowed to use it because of politics.

From what I've read, the USA has at least 200 years of energy easily available and not dependent on foreign sources.

"Big Oil" is not the problem; the problem is government and the environuts and lobbyists.  Big Oil is a scapegoat and always has been.  There is nothing new here.

Kirby :

will agree that the auto unions with their hi wages made their product so hi no one can afford their product, example a coal miner thats union makes right at $25 a hour where a auto worker made $35 to $40 a hour an he did nt have to watch for falling rock.

the price of oil is free market from my understanding, its all supposeablely priced at a supply an demand , during the election the price was over $4 a gallon, when the economy was in a big downhill slide , things eased up, according to my Congressman the supply of the petroleum is nt the problem, it s the distillation, not 1 new distillation plant has been built to help ease the shortage an nobody wants it fixed, big oil does nt want to kill the golden goose, politicans wants donations, but everything relys on the cost of transportation, the tires for cars an trucks, the cost of fuel, an the cost of shipping everything from a loaf of bread to a automobile.

here in coal country , big energy exe s, are pushing for mountaintop removal for surface mining, more than likely they may get their way, our mountains are scarred deeply from the effects of past strip mining before reclaimation laws were into effect, at our last town hall meeting , we asked our Congressman that after every mine site was reclaimed , to do research an see if any of the sites were suitable for wind power or solar panel projects, I m one that believes that energy exes, an the ecology can get along , just as the alaska pipeline

the introduction of battery powered cars will not be a answer, ask yourself what will a new battery cost when the fuel cell runs dead,  what a lot of people don t know is that a deep cycle batterie has so many cycles it is expected to go thru, if a battery is placed on charge when its half dead that 1 cycle, it does  nt matter if it stone cold dead or 1/4 dead if its charged it wastes 1 cycle

a lot of the costs of the petroleum is speculators driving the stock cost of a barrel of oil also, war in Iraq, theres gonna be a shortage oil is gonna slow down

I will agree Kirby that the Autoworkers hurt thereselves.

but still say oil prices will have to stabalize some way, whether its builting new distillation or development of alternative fuel such as ethanol made out of switchgrass, sugar cane, or beets , the world would be plum wonderful if they can develop a fuel out of kudzu

I m no enviromental nut, I m a realist that wishes the best for our nation, whether its cost containment for gas or healthcare

I deeply respect your opinion     Woodstock

look and what i done did now

To elude you is not premeditated :)

Basically I've heard from a doctor that they want them to write scripts for less meds per day.  So instead of putting someone on 4 percoset a day, keep them at 3 so that there is more for "the system".  More availability.  Not just narcotic pain killers but all kinds of medications.  To have doctors encourage patients to keep their doses daily low not for the sake of anything other than ensuring there are enough stockpiles for the government.  These are actual conferences and such that doctors are attending.

PS - all opinions are respected but unions ruined it for detroit.

Is there a National Security need

for such a "stockpile"? I can see one for antibiotics and such, but, really, Pain Meds? Come on, elusive2u, you should know that the govt. already controls the raw materials and manufacture of all pain meds through the FDA and DEA. They would have no conceivable need to "stockpile" these so common items. All it would take is for either of these two agencies too give the word and "Big Pharm" would, and could, churn out so much Oxycodone, Morphene, Fentanyl, etc that every man, woman and child in the U.S. could get doped to the eyeballs for the rest of their lives.

It's things like strategic metals, phosphorous, oil, etc that the Govt. is interested in stockpiling. I see no National Security issues at stake here, nor do I see possible billion $ profits either. I always follow Warren Zevon's advice and keep my eyes on the Lawyers, Guns, and Money. Whither goest they goeth our freedom. Oh yeah, phosphorous? Yep, we are due to run short of this strategic component of agricultural fertilizer in about 15 years. Our total supply comes from one open mine in the Tampa area. We will be unable to feed our people without it. Did you know that Morocco controls 40% of the World's phosphorous supply? Why do you think that we've always been so chummy with them? Morocco is the Saudi Arabia of phosphorous. Now, that's something to worry about!

With big oil it is not about

With big oil it is not about drilling, it is about pumping it out of the ground. Do you think the oil companies would want to pump more oil out of the ground so there is more of it which in turn would cause the price to go down? Big oil has all the oil they need it's just keeping it in the ground. Off topic of course.

Naw, T-C, I think that this thread was...

intended to be Political in the first place, so you folks are not a bit off topic. I think that one of our head mods, Kirby, has allowed the floodgates of politics to be opened this once by his reply #8. I think that you have made a very valid statement as to what "Big Oil" is really about, which is "Big Money". Heck, I'm all for 'em, the more gas costs the less people will drive and the more they will conserve. When you look at it that way, Big Oil is a very responsible corporate citizen. I wish that these "tree-huggers and eco-terrorists" would knock off their useless and immature grandstanding and attend their classes at the Universitys that Big Oil has so generously funded. Maybe then,  they could learn how to get us out of the mess we're in.

I am sooo tired of all this destructive talk about "Who's at fault". Of course the unions are at fault for the mess in our auto industry, that goes w/out saying. However, it takes two to tango and the Management of our once proud domestic auto industry is every bit as much to blame. Govt., especially the Executive branch, has kept their regulations out of management's hair for at least 25 years. That's about how long ago there were any changes made in the CAFE act that sets mileage and emission standards. It would also be helpful if everyone would remember that the Republican party has controlled the Presidency, hence the Regulatory Executive branch of the U.S. Govt. for 7 out of the last 10 Presidential terms.

If someone from either side of this arguement has a constructive comment to make I will listen. But, please, no more destructive jingoism from either side of the divide is going to hold back the Ocean's rise. I, personally, think that anthropogenic (man made or caused) arguements for global warming are a bunch of hooey. At the same time, I do not argue that the ocean levels are rising . . . there are too many historically based objective indications, like 100,000 year old ice cores, that show we are likely to be at the start of a natural warming trend and possibly even a tipping point of much faster temperature increases. If the Politicians could hush up for a bit and let the Scientists talk, and get to work, we might be able to figure a way out. So, please, why don't we all just get to work and let those that know what they are talking about do their jobs?

I think that if the price of Gas was down

the sales of SUV S an Hybrids would be higher,  if a person was making $30 k a year the gas price may not be a issue but try surviving on $22k or less.

most people are looking for 6 cyclinders or 4 cylinders now

have to admit we got off topic but the economy, has a lot to due with a lot of my anxiety issues

I would like to know a figure of how many house s are being foreclosed on now, this subject worries me as this would be enough to cause hi anxiety an suicide for many Americans as if they re forclosed on then there credit is worth a paper bag.

I from Texas just like

I from Texas just like Kirby... we need to shut these liberals up and drill in Texas, offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and in Alaska. It makes no sense not to use your OWN natural resourse and buy from some muslim nation where all of them want "Death to America". Yes we need to invest in alternative engergy while we are drilling but we need to use our own natural resources. If we are not spending all our nations money on oil from another country we can save that money and put it into research into alternative energy.

Do you know who we get most of our oil from???? Canada, and then Saudi Arabia. I wish I had the link to this because I doubt you guys believe me on this one.

Woody, we're living on $12,000 p/y.

We also live in an area where the median price of a home is over $300,000. I know all too well the dificulties of poverty but we make the best of it. Our love sees us through . . . and that is the truth. Good luck, my good friend . . .

                                                                      Smile       Q       Smile

PS:  We don't owe any money, we're 100% debt free . . . you wouldn't believe what a difference that makes. Too many people got greedy and jumped for those sub-prime mortgages when they almost had their homes paid off. It seems like everybody we know has more problems than us because they fell prey to the predatory lending practices of the banks that are now being bailed out with our tax money. Go figure . . . 'cause I sure can't.

PPS: Jeremy, the list goes like this: Domestic, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, and then I think it goes to the North Sea before it reaches Saudi Arabia. But, yeah man, I think we should be pumping more of our own, we've already drilled the holes but we don't sell it until the price is right. Also, the biggest dawg in Alaska aint the U.S. , it's the Brits. The majority of that Alaskan crude is sold to Japan and China 'cause they pay a premium for it. Go figure . . . follow the money!

I like how Texas doesnt even

I like how Texas doesnt even have state taxes and yet their budget is balanced and also Governor Perry rejected that stimulus money of $550 million because he doesnt want money with strings attached. Its not fair to the other states that do the right thing to have to bail out California that mismanaged everything and they even have state taxes there.

Governer Swartzenager wants to triple the cost of vehicle registration to make up for his mistakes on the budget. I am keeping my Texas plates and I just mail in my registration that only costs $50 a year to register.

I dont see how we care about drilling oil so much when we are the worlds largest producer of coal. I dont think we should stop mining coal and I think we need to start using our other natural resources. This is why I hate politics. Its all about lobbying, money, and not making the right decision because of special interests.

Quincy... yeah I keep up with

Quincy... yeah I keep up with politics alot in my spare time. I also hear that we sell our alaskan oil to Japan because they make more money off it. But in the mean time other countries our drilling right outside of our waters stealing our own oil that we could be pumping. Has anyone seen the movie "There Will Be Blood" Its a long entertaining movie. He talks about how you drill in the ground but you are getting oil right from under peoples property far away. I am not sure if this is based on facts, but it seems like it would make sense.

So these other countries our drilling out in international water getting the oil from the Gulf of Mexico right out from under us.

JJ, you are so correct.  The technology is directional drilling.  The main country drilling in the Chukchi Sea is Russia.

Alaska could be taking the same oil but the state can't because of regulations - not technology.

So Russia takes all.

We have the technology to do so much yet we can do so little because of arcane regulations.  So we depend on foreign countries when we can do it all here.  Why?

Oh, by the way

I worked for almost a decade in the offshore oil industry. CA dosen't have NEARLY as much as the Republicans state. The oil off the west coast is deep, and NOT that plentiful...If it was there, and easily accessible, itd be getting tapped as we speak. But it's not. This country RELIES on foreign oil. Check the import values. They will shock you. If it (oil) were here, we'd be using it...Just wait for the controversy the U.S. is bound to create over Russias successful dive (and claim) to the bottom of the Antarctic. There ARE some serious deposits there...

Blaming this new eco-friendly movement is a weak excuse that the money hungry politicians in Washington propogate...Who here knows what a lobbyist does?

This is just fact, hope nobody got offended.

Exactly Q!!  Money and things will never make anyone happy.  Some people just will never get,  it does not matter how much money you make it is about how much you spend.   My parents drilled that in my head when I was young.  They saved every dime and paid cash for everything.  A beach house, every car (new) and several motor homes.  It can be done!!!  Take care, htmom

Kirby... being a fellow

Kirby... being a fellow Texan, and being logical... why doesnt our own country use our own natural resourse instead of letting other countries steal it right from under us? I remember during the campaign that McCain wanted us to drill, and Obama didnt... but then eventually even Obama said we need to drill. I like how politicians say whatever to get in office and dont do what they said they were going to do on the campaign trail. How about beefing up border security and finish building the wall so we can then they can fill out paper work and do this the legal way so they can pay taxes and become citizens. I dont mind immigrants coming to this country wanting to work, learn the language, pay taxes and become a citizen. I just HATE the illegal immigrants that come here, because its not fair to those who did come here the right way and plus coming here illegally is the same thing as trespassing which I believe is breaking the law.

What can we do to get our government, which thinks they know whats best for us and that wants to make choices for us.... ? It seems so simple to drill our own oil, and quit giving our money to these muslim nations that breed terrorism. We can save so much money using our OWN oil and with the money we save we can invest that in research for alternative energy sources. Is what I say just some half baked idea or does this seem like what we need to do?

I can't give

you a definitive answer right now. But I can tell you that according to the laws pertaining to such matters, the Fed. Government, or the State of CA could lease the seabed, or pipeline running through Baja to anyone they wish. So I would assume Pemex (Mexico's state oil Co.) would be a cantidate for a lease...

I'll look into it.

P.S. State owned oil companies control 3/4 of the worlds oil reserves.

Hope everyone is having a pleasant weekend.

the state of coal right now

just a update all mettallugical coal is on a day to day basis, all orders are on hold an stockpiles are overstocked awaiting orders

steam coal is still going strong

my son works in a mine that produces steel producing coal they recently merged with another company to get orders for their product

fella s it does nt matter how many wells you drill, until theres another distillation plant or two, the oil companies will always cry supply an demand

it does nt matter, every big holiday that comes up gas prices rise 10 cents a gallon, because they know people are traveling an they have to get it, when hurricane season rolls in, fears of offshore rig damages make prices rise whether there s damage or not, if there s a war in the middle east not only does the price of oil goes up, but beans, pork bellies an bottled water, some contractor got feed the troops

De-regulation

As I have stated earlier in this thread, reply #16, the execution of regulatory powers are the sole provenance of the Executive branch of our govt. The C.E.O. is the President, and 7 out of the last 10 administrations, since Nixon's first in 1968, have been Republican. Three of those seven 4 year terms were headed, not just by a Republican President, but by men who made, or inherited, their fortunes in Texas oil. I have to ask you, since these good old oil patch boys had 12 years in power, and the other group of Republican, oil business friendly, Executives in Chief had the reins for another 16 years for a total of 28 years out of 40, why do the Democrats still get blamed for all this ballyhooed over-regulation? I will never figure it out, were they trying to cut their own throats or were they just plain dumb? The fox has been in the hen-house for an awful long time, I think he ate at least a few chickens while he was there.

If america wants to lessen

If america wants to lessen their trade deficit then we have to start producing again.  After WWII our country led the world in manufacturing jobs and since then we basically lost most of them.  We have to find some way to export more goods than were importing, its as simple as that.  Our biggest dept is to China and it is a staggering number at that.

China has arose out of the dark ages an now has modernized their country, they are manufacturing, builting the worlds largest dam for hydroelectric, their coal mines are notorious for unsafe working conditions they have major coal dust an methane explosions that kill as hi as 1500 workers at a time, an send a fresh batch of men back to restart the same mine.

Hey Woody, did you know that . . .

China opens a new coal-fired generating plant every week. These aren't small ones either, the average size plant produces enough juice to power 10,000 American style homes. One a bloody week! We owe China 1.5 trillion dollars!!!  Only 8.5 years ago we had a budget surplus of close to that same amount. Go figure who spent that total of 3 Trillion dollars. It sure as heck wasn't me or you, huh?

JJ my response was to be the same as FeliksD,

it is illegal to not register your vehicle in your state of residence.  You will probably get a warning ONE time, then the fine is fairly hefty.  It will be much cheaper to just register in CA in the longrun.

what gets me

is our POWER Company is seeking another raise for their fuel factor, this makes the 3rd raise hike they asked for in 18 months but the price of coal has stalled, the state corparation gives the power company slight increases everytime they seek it, one time they made them reimburse us, but then turn around an gave them double what they 1st sought.

From what the representive from the power company told me our power comes from the Ohio or West Virginia grid theres a power plant near here approximately 30 miles, an they constructing a new super power plant with in 20 miles but its a different company, but what seemed strange was that the plant that is 30 miles away does not send not 1 watt this way, it goes toward Tennessee.

Our power company asked the state corp. commission, to make every one of their customers help pay for a new power plant in West Virginia, this seemed like if I m asked to pay for someone else s business I m a stockholder, but this is not the case.

I m no stockholder, just a disgruntled hillbilly   Woodstock

Woody do you live and buy

Woody do you live and buy energy from a municipality?  My parents do.  Their light bill is $200.00 and nothing is running.  My parents turn off everything when they go RVing or to the beach .  I mean EVERYTHING.  It is such a rip off.  It is not worth living in their neighborhood.  They have had the electric meter changed.  This was 15 years ago that I realized how much their light bill was.  I know the city has raised the rates since then.   The city has the people over a barrel.  They(customers) do not have options of who they can buy their energy from.   I think the practice of buying and selling energy is an old way of doing things.  Small town corrupt officials. Take care, htmom

I dont know how we got into

I dont know how we got into all these politics, but I think it might turn all of us against each other. I know I posted a couple comments on my views on government, which I probaly shouldnt have done. I think we should stick to talking about medicine and pain management.

I got denied my appeal today... oh well, I would say more, but I am exhausted from school and homework. As much as I like this website it feels good to be away from it actually doing something productive.

JJ-

First off, sorry to hear about your denial my friend.

Secondly, I feel that I was the one responsible for instigating this political banter, and I regret it. You're right; it's going to create a rift between posters. We're all human beings, and a great many of us are in pain. We should concentrate on sharing knowledge that can benefit others, not knowldede that might get their blood pressure up to dangerous levels...

It's certainly stimulating conversation, but this is a medical forum.
