So I have a really old prescription for Alprazolam for anxiety. It expired in 2002, but I have pretty much the entire bottle left. Is it dangerous to consume at this point, or is the medication just possibly less effective? The reason I ask is because I am thinking of using it again for panic attacks. I would rather not get another new prescription as I no longer have health insurance (sigh). Any help?
Here is The same article that was posted in your other thread. Same answer, same article. Just merged.

xanax and alprazolam are the same thing, but the only thing i've ever been cautious about taking if expired was antibiotics. the other stuff would just depend on how it was stored, as long as it wasn't stored in high heat or humidity or did not get exposed to moisture i would probably take them myself, but thats what i would do guess you gotta make your own call whether its worth it or not. later
Old tetracycline can be dangerous, and some medications loose potency quickly like nitroglycerine (should be replaced every three months) and antibiotic suspensions, but not tablets. Stored in a dry environment at room temperature many drugs will last for years beyond their expiration date.

this is something I really don't know much of anything about, but I do know that my mom always told me that it was okay to take old medications- she said that they were just less effective (My mom is a nurse by the way). this is only my opinion though, you should wait until you learn or hear alittle more.
