Hello I had my meds refilled today Oxycodone 80mg. When I got home and opened the bottled each green tablet had OC on one side and 80 on the other. In the past(last month) I would receive Mallincrodt generic green with M/596. At first I thought I received Brand Oxycontin OC/80 made by Purdue Pharma. No! This is not the case with me these pills are made by Ethex according to the lablel on the Rx.My question is are these Brand or what? I have never seen OC/80 except made by Purdue Pharma. Any help??
The retail price per tablet was $10.92 each, that is without insurance. I do however have some insurnace. When I took a tablet it did feel like the brand(a little tingly sensation) I beleived that the Mallincrodt brand sucked. But better than nothing! Thanks for the quick reply mrbrandman(I get the name!). Joe
Anytime! You are very much welcome. My last script of 40mg Purdue OC was $740 for 90 pills, so it does appear there is at least a little bit of a price break.
So, it seems that Ethex and Purdue have made a deal similar to the Purdue/Mallinckrodt deal reguarding the selling of certain strengths of generic OxyContin. Best news about this new deal is that Purdue is going to actually make the "generic" tablets and Ethex is only going to distribute them since Ethex is still under manufacturing scrutiny. This may change once ethex gets the FDA nod of approval to resume manufacturing. Here is a link to Ethex's "generic" OxyContin prescribing information and here is a link to Ethexs' press release about this. Below is also a snippit from ethex's press release incase my link goes dead, which has happened before when a pharma company lets the cat out of the bag a little early.
ST. LOUIS, MO – June 9, 2009 - KV Pharmaceutical Company (NYSE: KVa/KVb) of St. Louis, MO., today announced it has entered into a settlement agreement with Purdue Pharma L.P. of Stamford, Conn., in regard to the patent infringement lawsuit between the two companies. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, KV Pharmaceutical Company acknowledges that Purdue Pharma’s OxyContin® patents are valid and enforceable and infringed. In exchange, Purdue will grant KV Pharmaceutical Company certain limited non-exclusive, royalty-bearing, non-transferable rights to sell in the United States generic versions of the drug OxyContin® (oxycodone HCl controlled-release) for a limited period of time. The Companies have agreed to continue to discuss the final location for the manufacturing of this product
Since i hate ethex so badly I wish Purdue wouldnt have gave them a get back on your feet card. The sales of 6 months worth of generic OC would probably keep ethex from going bankrupt
Im curious to know if there is more than meets the eye in this deal. I wonder if Purdue is getting more than we know for giving Ethex the chance to get back in the game. I never had a problem with Ethex, but maybe I was getting those extra dosage pills.
They have some changes to make and Im curious to see what the future will hold for Ethex.
I'm amazed that they're still in business let alone the business of even second-hand handling of Oxycodone in any form. The "flawed" security in their accounting for opioids was, I believe, one of the top 3 causes for the Oxycodone shortage during the winter of '08-'09. Do you have any further input, solo?
I wonder if a more stable company could acquire Ethex and turn them around? If there is any value in doing so. Of those top three causes, I would put Ethex in #3 at least, as there were bigger things surrounding the shortage as previously discussed.
Although product wise I have never had a problem, after some recent information I received I have to say Ethex should have gone down. This makes me even more curious as to Purdues motives in giving them a helping hand.

Purdue struck an agreement with Ethex, the maker of a decent oxycodone product until problems with pills being too strong or too weak, to allow Ethex to distribute the generic OxyContin, made by Purdue. Its the same as the Watson ABGs, but apparently they have decided not to even change the imprint. You indeed have Purdues OxyContin, just distributed by Ethex. What was the price if you dont mind so we can see how much savings there is. My guess is that they anticipated a drop in sales from people switching medications where insurance companies charge a higher co pay for name brand, or do not cover them at all, as well as cash patients. Yet another brilliant move by Purdue to ensure they are reaping all the rewards possible. Ethex was on the brink of going under with the hold placed on their oxycodone products, Im assuming one their biggest selling products and Purdue will likely put Ethex back on its feet since most of OxyContin's sales will now be through the Ethex "generic."
Im surprised to hear of any Malli's left out there as you referred to receiving up until last month. I never received Malli's once in my area, only brand was available when Purdue ended Mallinckrodt's right to distribute the generic OxyContin. Even during Malli's distribution, my pharmacy never stocked them. A god send if you ask me, Malli's are nothing but junk! Except for some products, and some people. I have had good experience with their generic Norco, but thats all. Everything else is just not up to par if you ask me.
