Hello everybody.   Got an Rx from doc and he said that it would be for 5mg oxycodone, so I THOUGHT that meant generic percocet ...put picking up meds (and taking them home) I see how little they are.  The little sticker the supermarket pharmacist put on it, properly id'd it; so now I think I get it...there is NO tylenol in the medicine!   O!

Called the doctors office, and they said I could add tylenol if I chose or not, but the narcotic is strong enough.  Will use tonight and find out.    Is this the active ingredient in percocet?  Why don't a lot of you posters get meds like this so there is not all the "APAP" discussions?

Or maybe I'm wrong about this.  And looking at the opoid comparision chart (great resource) I'm not sure if the strength of the narcotic is stand alone or stronger with OTC meds.

Thanks for any thoughts on my musings.    Carlos

The 5mg oxycodone without

The 5mg oxycodone without tylenol is generic roxicodone and yes it is the same active ingredient in percocet. They also make 15mg and 30mg strengths. I do know that hydrocodone supposively works better with tylenol or ibuprofen but I am unaware of oxycodone. Oxycontin is oxycodone in an extended release formula without tylenol.  I know that my mother is prescribed percocet 5mg 3 per day and since they only have 325mg tylenol that 3 throughout the day is not a bad amount of tylenol at all and is well below the daily limit. But if she were to be prescribed more than 12 per day (which is rare) then I would start considering a switch to the 5mg roxicodne because of the tylenol. There are also some people who have stomach problems when taking tylenol so the roxicodone is a better option. Overall I would prefer the roxicodone but it doesn't make a difference unless you are taking close to or over 4000mg of tylenol per day with your oxycodone/apap pill.

You have probably received,

You have probably received, as you mentioned, the straight oxycodone without the tylenol or asprin. Oxycodone and asprin is the equivalent of "percodan" and oxy with tylenol (acetaminophen) is the equiv of "percocette". There are a lot of doctors who worry ablot acetaminophen in general, as too much (recomended doses are rather low) causes liver problems.

My advice is to take this with 200-400 MG of motrin (ibuprophen). I have seen more than a few studies that indicate much better pain relief from the combination.

Good luck.

APAP / oxycodone

why do you say that tyl. amount rec. are too low?  Do you think that this is why the doc Rx'd this to me?

I was more thinking that it was to save money.  And on a side note,  it WAS very cheap.  Pretty amazing.

I think the less tylenol the

I think the less tylenol the better They have a brand name called percolone which is 5mg oxycodone.  I started on thoses 5mg many years ago and depending on how bad the pain is you MIGHT develop tolerance as many people do, including me which then they might advance you to  15 or 30 mg which are pure agonists too.

No 15mg oxycodone is equal

No 15mg oxycodone is equal to three 5/325 percocets if you take the equivalent of tylenol too.
