Generic Percocets = Watson vs. Mallinckrodt

Hi Everyone,

I am brand new to this forum, but fortunately/unfortunately not new to opoid pain medications (for back “issues”).

My question is this…

Does anyone have an opinion on whether the Watson brand or the Mallinckrodt brand 10/325 Percocets work better?

I have been using generic Mallinckrodt 10/325 Percocets (white, oblong tablet with 10/325 imprint) for b/t pain for over a year now, but I had to change pharmacies and NOW for the first time ever, I was given Watson’s generic Percocets (white, round tablet with Watson 932 imprint).

I just took my first dose and they seem to work fine, but would like to hear others’ opinions as to which one they think work “better” or maybe one lasts longer, etc.

Thanks!

Deb of Youngstown, Ohio

Again, thanx ;)
So far, my opinion is that the Watson's duration
was much longer than I experienced with the Mallin... so I'm quite pleased :D

Hi Deb, welcome to the board! Smile

I am prescribed 10/660 for quite some time now, and get the Mallinkrodt brand. I prefer the Qualitest generic brand, especially for duration, tho. In my experience, that generic is the most effective and lasts the longest. Watson is my second choice...M my 3rd, but M still works pretty well, the pain relief just doesn't last as long as I would like. Can't find a convenient pharmacy that carries Qualitest tho, or I would switch...I think it has an edge over the others IMO. So many places have gone with Mallinkrodt these days..wish pharmacy's would offer us a choice.

I am prescribed 5/325

I am prescribed 5/325 percocets right now and have been using the watson brand for about a month now.  They worked really well and suprisingly fast.  However I just changed over to the endo brand name product which are about 90 dollars more and they work ok.  I said earlier that they didnt work really well but they jsut take longer to kick in.  They actually last longer then the watson brand.  They deliver the medicine steadier in my opinion that the watson brand does.

Thank you both for your responses.

I am happy to report that the Watson brand is lasting LONGER than the M brand !  I'm thrilled, as my pain has gotten worse over the past few months (I keep forgetting that I'm 40 ... NOT 14...LOL - being summertime and all...)

Before all my chronic pain began 3 yrs ago, I never even knew that there were different companies that made generics, nor did I realize that they were not all up to the same standards (yes - my old pharmacist would even swear that "the" (like there was ONLY one?) generic version was BETTER!

TGIF - Hope everyone has a good weekend ! ! !

Mine's definitely looking up now :)

Endocet

I ingest the 10/325 Endocets. Endo pharmaceuticals is the company from which produces the brand. Mal brand looks a lot like the endocet brand. The bottle of endocet states it has only 8.9637 of oxycodone though. I think the mal brand doesn't. It actually has 10mgs in it. If I'm not mistaken. I saw a bottle but I will take a gander at one again at the pharmacy to double check. If so the Mal brand would even be better than the endo brand. I never personally liked the watson brand.

 You are mistaken Spade.

You are mistaken Spade. Both the Endocet and Mallinckrodt generic version of the same combo 10/325 Oxycodone HCL/APAP contain 10MG Oxycodone HCL which is equivalent to 8.9637MG of Oxycodone Base, its doesnt only contain the 8.9637MG its just equal to that much. But since Oxycodone base isnt all that water soluble they convert it to the HCL form so your body can absord it better. ALL US Oxycodone products contain Oxycodone HCL as the active chemical except the combo products that contain Aspirin (Percodan/ Endodan) these contain Oxycodone HCL along with Oxycodone Terephalate.

mallinckrodt 30 mg and eth 446 30mg

when I picked up my pills from the pharmacy  eth 446 cost more money them the pill's I get.  m/30mg  are 1.00 a each ,eth 2.00 a each. Also I don't fine eth 446 as  strong as mallinckrodt 30 mg.  Is  it possible that they are both the same, and it is me that feels that way about them?

Did anybody run into the same problem?

your question

I too was surprised when I went to another pharmacy and got the white round watson 10/325 percocet , I did not think they worked well .

In my experience the best is the endocet they are oblong and yellow.

 Good luck......

IMO

Im going to have to agree and disagree. The brand name endocet are defently the best but, I disagree The watson brand 932 is great I think they are very effective and a quality generic offering.
