I need some help. xanax 1mg to valium 10mg
what is the diffrence? My doc just changed me from xanax 1mg 3 times a day to valium 10 4 times a day! Does this RX sound right? I have yet to try the vailum because I'm to scared to. Its made by watson.. I have been taking xanax for almost 10 years, what do I do? Is valium a step down from xanax or the same or better? I need some input here guys. ALSO since the last post I made here Im down to 5 Roxy 30mg a day from 8 a day soo its workin progress! Please let me know on the vailum. Thanks in advance. Deanna
Thank you, so now I'm not AS worried as I was about takeing them. But Im still weary of them. I'll take one tonight and see what happends!
Actually that isn't true. Valium has a very long half life and is similar to Klonopin in that respect. It also has muscle relaxing properties. If you are asking what would be stronger then I would say the valium 4 times a day would feel stronger. Definately. But everyone is different.
I am currently taking 2 mg of Xanax t.i.d. and have been on this dose for 3 years. Back in the late 70's I was put on Valium to replace Tuinal that I had been on for 4 years. The Dr. at that time told me Valium was safer and had a very long half-life and was easier to come off of if I so desired.Below is a link to a chart that I found on the internet that you can see Valium is not short acting as is Xanax. BTW I did withdraw from the Valium in '87 and it was a cakewalk compared to Xanax withdrawal. Everybody is different but check the chart out I believe it is fairly accurate.Have a great day!! Greg

Actually, 2 10mg tabs of valium is equal to 1mg of xanax. If I am not mistaken. There are equivalency charts to help you understand it more. Is your doctor trying to put you on a taper? If so it's not a really good idea to cut out the xanax completely if you have been taking it for a while. If you have, you may still go through w/d's from the xanax. The valium will help and the half life is way longer than xanax, but it's a different chemical make up. My doctor tried to take me from 3 1mg xanax a day to 1 valium a day. Yeah, that didn't work out so well. If this is for tapering I would recommend the ashton method. I showed my doctor this method, but he didn't quiet understand it obviously, so he is no longer my doctor.
You may find that you get very sleepy and sluggish taking the 4 valium a day because it builds up in your body, so this may take a few days to get this effect but everybody is different, but remember with all benzos tolerance will eventually follow. Here's a link that may help you understand it better.

Can't suboxone help with this process? Can it help lessen the degree of misery? I have wondered about this for some time but, I have never been able to get a reliable answer.
Benzodiazepines are not opiates....how would Suboxone help?
Deanna: I haven't heard from you in a little while, hope this situation worked out. One thing nobody mentioned was that the tw drugs, (diazepam and alprazolam) are indicated for different anxiety related disorders. Valium won't do much for panic attacks, but it will help with any muscle spasms you may have. Xanax will ABORT any panic attack, but won't do a thing for muscle spacisity.
There's no way of adequately doing a "conversion" of these drugs. It's like comparing OxyIR to Methadone.
Valium has a slow onset of action, has an extremely long half-life, and tends to accumulate in the body, whereas Xanax is quick and potent, but in and out of the bloodstream quicker than you can skin a cat.
xanax not valium, xanax is a mild tranquilizer.
valium is weak, no matter if it is name brand or whetever.
you will see the difference!

i have never had a "weak" valium in my life...why do you post that? I feel the xanax is just a bit stronger then the equivalent dose of valium..but its not weak .
told me that xanax was used mainly to treat anxiety
valium was used mainly for depression
I VE seen 1 patient that was prescribed both at the same time.
my 2 cents Woodstock

There really is no difference-10mg of valium is equal to 1mg of Xanax. Both of these drugs are the quick short acting of the benzos-which means they hit you quick, and last about 4hrs or so.Where Klonopin and Ativan are long acting-so they take awhile to come on-but they last a ???$* of alot longer!!! Answer to your question is they are equal at that dosage rate. HOPE THIS HELPS-I'VE BEEN ON XANAX 2MG TWICE A DAY FOR 9YEARS AND HAVE TRIED ALL THE REST,BUT XANAX WORKS BEST FOR ME!!!!!!!
