If you read my previous posts about my being on adderall,, you'll gather that I really need it. I can feel such a difference in my attention and focus and I acually want to do my school work and study. It's the first time in my life that I have made straight A's. There is just one major issue, my loss of appetite. I have lost like 12-14 pounds since I first posted about this med.. umm like two -three weeks ago. I am already small and have had problems keeping my weight up, but this is ridiculous. I cant wanna eat anyhing. And now.. it's effecting my relationship with my boyfriend. Sorry for the term.. but he liked my "plump ^*#%" it was/is his favorite physical feature about me i guesss.. i dunnno. but he keeps mentioning that my @!^ is going away. I dont know what to do.. I dont want to quit taking the medicine because it really helps, but now all I can think about is him not finding me as attractive because of this stupid medicine that really helps. He tells me to only take it when I need it.. I have class and have to study hard ( I'm in the surgical tech program} for hours upon hours everyday. and then when I get upset about it and cry.. im just being a stupid emotional girl..but it hurts. he says he doesnt mean it that he loves me ANYWAY.. but i know he would like me more if I was not on this med and could gain some weight back. I dont like being this skinny, I weigh 111.. i did weigh a litle over 120 and I am 5'5. So, I'm no over or underweigh.. I'm just not how I ( and he) would like me to be. Does anyone else have an eating issue with adderall?? I dont know what to do.. I dont want to stop taking it, Im scared I will fail at scool again, this is my third time in college and the first time I have ever done this well. I dont know if he thinks that I just like taking them..I dont know, but I swear they really help. I feel like no one understands and they think that I am just playing around or something. I just need some advice on how to eat or gain weight while taking this med. any advice is appreciated.

I tell people who want to gain weight to start strength training. You will increase muscle mass, pump up you behind and be healthier to boot. Sorry it won't do much for your chest if that is where the problem is however.
Dr Lois she is talking about her badonkydonk.. booty not her chest...lol.. I would recommend protien shakes just slamm it like a glass of water they have lots of calories anf protien and you dont have to be hungry... also eat before you take meds if possible...
Johnny
This can definately be fixed. Take Dr. Lois's advise about weight training. It will make you very hungry even with your adderall. Eat a lot of carbohydrates like pizza, pasta, breads, and proteins are good as well. But if you want to put weight on you need to weight train and eat a lot of carbos.
If your state provides for medical marijuana, you might want to try it to increase your appetite and weight. We here in Michigan just passed a medical marijuana law this past November. I know people in other states, esp. California, whose doctors recommend medical marijuana for ADD/ADHD because it can increase focus and decresae anxiety. Plus, it's really more of an herb than a drug and has never, EVER caused a fatal overdose. For more information, check out the blog of my freind, Dr. Tom O'Connell -- www.doctortom.org -- and I've pasted one of his posts re: ADD and cannbis below.

What About ADD?
ADD is the acronym for ‘attention deficit disorder,’ a condition I learned was associated with use of marijuana only after I started screening people seeking pot ‘recommendations’ in 2001. Those calling attention to ADD were usually males under twenty-five who’d either been treated with Ritalin in school or had it recommended to their parents following a medical evaluation which had typically been suggested by the principal at the urging of a teacher.
However, the applicants themselves rarely mentioned their ADD history; quite the opposite, they tended to base their desire to use pot on common musculoskeletal conditions: sore backs, trick knees, or dislocating shoulders. Among computer users, tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome were frequent. However, a common problem with those scenarios was that a careful history often revealed that the pain hadn’t started until well after the pot use had become chronic.
I’ve since learned that there are different patterns by which ‘ADD’ may become manifest and all are very likely expressions of anxiety in children, adolescents, or adults. I should also say that at this point, I don’t think of ADD as a ‘disease,’ but rather a behavioral pattern which, if intense, can easily become problematic for both those displaying it and those around them, particularly family and loved ones.
Fortunately, it can usually be improved by a combination of understanding and anxiolytic therapy; but optimization of such therapy on a large scale will require a more intelligent understanding by those attempting to treat it than is now the case
Although the behavior had been recognized as a discrete entity in Europe as long ago as the Nineteenth Century, its modern diagnosis and empirical treatment with stimulants were not introduced until the early Nineteen Seventies, when Paul Wender popularized it as ‘Attention Deficit Disorder’ and reported that the academic performances of a majority of children treated with Ritalin were improved. Unfortunately, ‘attention deficit’ has proven as much a misnomer as his suggested etiology, ‘minimal brain damage’ (MBD) was mistaken. In essence, no coherent theory addressing all of the syndrome's common features has been advanced.
Nevertheless, there was a steady increase in cases being treated with Ritalin and other stimulants until the late Nineties, when they were estimated to have been prescribed for somewhere between three and six percent of primary school children in some districts. Not surprisingly, critics began alleging overtreatment, while defenders were claiming that ADD is still being under treated.
What I find particularly disturbing is that the lack of recognition of any possible medical benefits from cannabis in ADD is so clearly influenced by a drug policy dogma which is also obscuring the anxiolytic benefits inhaled cannabis has been providing to a now-accessible poulation of chronic users who seem to be more of an embarrassment to political supporters of medical use than potentially powerful evidence of the folly of an absurd policy.
Go figure....

I live in GA.... and it pretty much sucks here... they promote alcohol like it's nothing.. but god forbid if you get caught with a little weed... whatever. I think I have decided to just forget the adderal... i looked in the mirror and looked like a skeloton... yuck.. so whatever.. i guess ill just have to see how i do in school without it
If you are going to go unmedicated, I would really suggest 3 books by Doctors Edward M. Hallowell and John J. Ratey. Their titles are as follows: Driven to Distraction, Delivered from Distraction, and Answers to Distraction. These three books have a great deal of information on ADD/ADHD, especially in the opinion of not wanting to medicate. Also, the books give names and contact info of numerous sources of support and information in the form of web sites, support groups, and study results. You can really educate yourself in this arena with these books. I know they've helped me understand my ADD in more than a few unexpected ways.
As for the boyfriend, perhaps he needs to understand how pervasive the condition of ADD is, and how negatively it can effect your life. Try to bring him on board, but if he wont try to understand your dilemma, you might want to look elsewhere. You have to remember that this is for life, not temporary, and he needs to understand that as well.
My story is almost exactly the same, except I'm a dude. I take adderall for add, I need it for study, I lost the same amount of weight, and I get really upset because I want my old weight back! I wish I could just stop taking the medicine and still do just as well in school, but that is impossible. The college I'm in is competitive and if I tried I would be surely tossed aside. Still, the skinnier I get, the less attractive I feel.
Weight training? I'm afraid that will cause me to lose calories at an even faster rate. I stopped all forms of exercise and I still loose weight. How does it work??
I live in Kentucky about 35-40 mins north of Louisville. Last year a high school football player, Max Gilpin, died of complications of heat exhuastion. http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&source=hp&q=Max%20Gilpin&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wv#q=Max+Gilpin+trial&hl=en&emb=0 .He was taking adderal, creatinine, ephedrine, he also had a virus, although his coach Jason Stinson only know about the Adderal, and was also accused of depriving them of H2O. The other thing that I can't believe is that there was no autopsy done. Why? I don't know. He was found not guilty and all charges were dropped and the Jefferson Co. School Dist. had to hire him back as a teacher. Good for him. This same situation has happen all over the country with the explosion of amphetamines to teenagers in this country. One of the most prominent side effects of amphetamines is the block the body's ability to cool itself normally and that combined with heat stroke/exhaustion is a deadly combination alot of times...Just thought that posting this and giving it as much exposure will educate people and save a life.

Ray, that whole trial was a joke. I watched it on Court tv. That poor coach has been put though the ringer. I think someone was out for some quick cash as opposed to seeking justice. I can't believe taxpayers $$ were wasted. Crazy!!
I'm 54 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD by my psychiatrist 8 years ago. I have been taking AdderallXR 20 mg for 7 years after 1 year on Ritalin. I must say that I do not reccomend either of these amphetamines for children, teens, adolescents, and anyone under at least 30 years of age. Your bodies metabolism is just too fast already when you are young, the last thing you need is speed on a regular basis. Tough luck, GameJock, you're gonna have to toss the GameBoy/Xbox/PlayStation and hit the books if you want to succeed . . . Q
you are a beutiful person and god doesnt make ugly you have to realize that our emotions effect are whole being. I feel that one of the best things to do for our self is to focus on your goal. when we need a weight gain, do the opposite of a diet, start loading up on carbs and pasta's, eat potatos ,rice anything starchy. i gained my weight after major surgery believe it or not was drink a 12 pack of cokes every day. I had lost to much weight from the pain pills after a hip and knee replacement i got it back through the soda trick and fast. you just got to pray and stay positive about this period of your life. medications are given to help you concentrate, well concentrate on the goals you made for yoursr in my prayers.elf, and eat even if you dont want to. eating in the evening also helps put on weight. good luck and you
had his Cancer surgery, the surgeon wanted my Father to gain 20 lbs in 14 days, they put Him drinking 2 cans of Insure a day, it was a very Hi calorie drink, like a shake or malt, Dad gained the weigh, the reason the surgeon wanted him to gain so much weigh was Dad was having a throat cancer operation an he had to live off the body fat until he could start comsuming semi-solids.

That whole trial was a joke, and I'm mad that taxpayer dollars were used to pay for it. Thank god it only lasted 2 weeks. I feel so sorry for both the famlies. I was something that could have been avoided.

SWIM has been where you're at (w/o the criticisms though). They dropped 30lbs during a year and a half span because they ignored/misinterpreted the 'I'm not hungry' feeling.
So, to answer your question which I read as: What can I do to eat and stay on my meds?
SWIM eats applesauce, pudding, or something similar with them in the morning, then at lunch make sure you get some protein/veggies/carbohydrates (a sandwich!), and at dinner just force yourself to eat. You may only eat half the food, but thats a start. Eventually by forcing yourself to eat you'll fall back into the swing of things. SWIM has cycled like this multiple times. It's a symptom that needs monitoring.
Good mental health = Good you
**Just my two cents, not medical advice. **

commonly used to avoid self incrimination in contexts such as boards discussing drug use. also used in places where generally criminal acts are taking place. (not dissimilar to use of illicit drugs)
m is sometimes replaced with y (for you) wherein someone would be questioning another.

Adderall, like most stimulants, is an appetite suppresant. I am naturally quite skinny and drop weight very easily and have had the same problem with a couple of different medications. Eating before taking a medication like adderall would help unless you are on the extended release taken once/twice a day. If you are on Adderall XR then you could ask for regular adderall/dextroamphetamine. Which gives you greater control over the dosing. If this still fails then you, there are plenty of medications with increased appetite as a side effect(or even off-label use, i imagine). I sympathize with your situation since I remember starting on Trileptal about a year ago and found my already slim body becoming scarily slim. I didn't want to discontinue use since it works fairly well for me so I timed my doses around my meals when possible and I have a herbal supplement that does the trick to sorta make me hungry again. Perhaps someone has a better suggestion than myself though....
