I JUST HAD ORAL SUGURY ( IN THE HOSPITAL UNDER GENERAL ANESTHESIA) TO REMOVE SOME ROTTED TEETH. MY DOCTOR IS A D.D.S AND AN M.D. . IN HIS OFFICE HE WROTE ME A PRESCRIPTION FOR PERCOCETS 7.5 AND IT WAS WRITTEN ON WHAT TO ME WAS JUST A NORMAL SCHEDULE #3 PAD. THE NEW ONE'S AS OF 1/2005 , THAT ARE LIKE COATED IN BLUE. I ASKED HIM RIGHT BEFORE THE OPERATION ( I MEAN LITERALLY WHILE I WAS ON THE OPERATING TABLE) THAT I WOULD NEED SOME THING MUCH, MUCH STRONGER AFTER THE SUGURY TO CONTROL MY PAIN , LIKE DALIDUID 8 MG TABLETS, AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE CANT PRESCRIBE ANYTHING STRONGER THAN PERCS, THAT HE ISIN'T LISCENCED TO DO SO , EVEN THOUGH HE DOES SUGURY IN HIS OFFICE BY PUTTING HIS PATIENTS UNDER ANESTHESIA , BUT NOT REQUIREING AIR-WAY PROTECTION. ( THAT IS WHY I HAD TO GO HAVE THIS DONE IN THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE HE TRIED TO PUT ME " UNDER " IN HIS OFFICE BUT WAS UNABLE TO SEDATE ME ENOUGH) HE ADMINISTERS THE SEDATIVES THROUGH I.V. HIMSELF. NOW I KNOW THAT THE DRUGS HE REQUIRES TO "PUT PEOPLE UNDER" ARE SCHEDULE #2( LIKE DALIDUID ) SO HOW CAN HE BE TELLING ME THAT HE DOESN'T HAVE THE LISCENSE # OR WAHTEVER HE NEEDS TO WRITE ME SCHEDULE #2 MEDICATION THAT I NOW DESPERATLY NEED AS I AM IN SEVERE, SEVERE PAIN, NOW THAT HE OPERATED ON ME 2 DAYS AGO ????IS THIS THE TRUTH??? OR IS HE LYING TO ME FOR WAHTEVER REASON.....HE TOLD ME YESTERDAY THAT IF I NEEDED SOMETHING STRONGER THAN PERCS, THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO ADMIT ME INTO THE HOSPITAL STRICTLY FOR JUST PAIN CONTROL... BUT I DON'T HAVE INSURANCE, AND I HAD TO PAY $2,500.00 JUST FOR THE HOSPITAL BILL UPFRONT AND HAD TO PAY HIM $1,500.00 UP FRONT FOR HIS SERVICES. TO GO INTO THE HOSPITAL FOR "PAIN CONTROL" WOULD RUN ME APROX. $3,500.00 A DAY AND I JUST CAN NOT AFFORD ANOTHER 7 GRAND( UP FRONT MIND YOU) FOR PAIN CONTROL. I AM IN HORRIABLE , HORRIABLE PAIN RIGHT NOW AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO... PLEASE ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW A.S.A.P. THANK YOU ....

WOW

Ayleen, I'm not sure - this is realy weird.

That's terrible that you would have to spend so much money to go to the emergency hospital.  That is not right.

But I don't see the difference between Dilaudid and Percocets.  I'm sure both are Schedule II narcotics - one is plain and one has APAP added.  If your dentist can write for one, he can write for the other.

In fact they are both definitely IIs for acute pain - here is what i found:

HYDROMORPHONE (Dilaudid®) relieves moderate to severe pain. Hydromorphone may be used to control pain following surgery, child birth, and other procedures. Hydromorphone may also be used to treat pain associated with cancer, heart attacks, sickle cell disease and other medical conditions.

ACETAMINOPHEN-OXYCODONE (Percocet®, Roxicet®, Tylox®, Roxilox®) is a combination of two different types of pain medicine and is used to treat moderate to severe pain.Generic acetaminophen-oxycodone tablets and capsules are available. Acetaminophen-oxycodone is also available as caplets.

Both have that intimidating stupid goverment warning not to share - Federal law prohibits the transfer of "you name it" to any person other than the patient for whom it was prescribed. Do not share this medicine with anyone else.

Yeah, right - let your friend, mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband, son, daughter or whoever wince in terrible pain while you watch even though you have something that might help?

In my unexperienced opinion I think docs have a conception that some drugs are good and some are bad, even if they are scheduled the same.  And the news reporters can make or break the benefits of many drugs.  Usually the docs won't write for oxycodone becuse of the press.  And I think most docs don't know the difference between oxycodone and Percocets.  But I guess your dentist thinks hydromorphone is a no-no.

These pills were developed for short term bad pain.  Doctors need to get a grip and use them as warranted.

my opinon only.  And how can one schedule II be differnet then another schedule II?

No way - it's the doctor's reasoning, I'm sure.  And pharm company preswayasion (spelling) for sure.  You know - like who gives me the best dinners, booze, entertainment?  I'll go with them.  It's no secret.

Sorry for my rant but that's it.  And God bless you.  I hope all turns out well and you feel better.

Thank you SO VERY, VERY MUCH!!!!!

I read your comment and again I thank you.. Yeah, I went to see the SCHMUCK today, and I asked him why he can't ( or wouldn't ) write for me the dailudid 8 mg tabs, he said that they " require " a triplecit prescription pad , which he doesn't have.... I have seen triplecit pads before, when I was prescribed the dailudid tablets ( I had shoulder sugury 2 years ago, and that's what they gave me and it worked remarkbly well for my post-operative pain, which is why I thought of them in the first place ) and it WAS a different type of a prescription , it was pink and had 2 carbons underneath the one the doctor fills out , and he had to fill in my written address, as well as my birthdate, and a few other details, and the one's he's given me for the perocets 7.5/325 mg are just like an ordinary pad , like writing for a viocden. Thankfully it's been 4 days now since my sugury, and thank god each day the pain has deminished some than the day before!!! So I hope that I am on the road to recovery!!! I did however have to go to the emergency room the night that I made this post, and was given I.V. pain meds, which were the dailudid and something called pheregen with it so I wouldn't vomit. It helped a great deal , and I believe that it got me "over the hump" and now today he gave me a script for the percocets 7.5/325, and I think that will be just fine, because thankfully each day the pain is a bit less than it was the day before.... Although he muttered a comment under his breath that I know he didn't mean for me to hear. He muttered to himself " well that's over 100 pills in less than a month, that will probally mean an inquiry" So what I made of that is , that I think that doctors are afraid of the D.E.A. and or the Justice Dept. looking at them and questioning them why are they dispensing so many pain meds. , and it doesn't even matter to them ( the D.E.A. and the Justice Dept. ) that , that person just had MAJOR SUGURY or not. And I really think that, that is just SOOO WRONG..... Having now just gone through this. I am a person who is in " ACUTE PAIN" not CRONIC PAIN.... And I suppose that I am really , really lucky, because I am getting better each day. What about those poor people who suffer from CHROINC PAIN and it will never get better with each passing day like me.....l
Anyways again THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for all of your very helpfull information...GOD BLESS YOU ......

With so many generics on the market for just about every pain med, this really isn't a problem with these drugs.

When a Dr. writes a script for a pain med, it is up to the pharmacy that fills the script when it comes to which brand is used. The pharmacy buys in bulk, and gets whatever is cheapest at the time.

Also, pharmaceutical companies have come a long way in their practices. "Doctor wooing" doesn't really happen near much as it did in the past. I know for a fact two of the world's three largest pharm co's don't allow their reps to buy gifts, food, etc. and absolutely no alcohol.(this came straight from a rep for the 3rd largest, that I know very well)  Other companies may or may not have similar policies in place, I don't know.

pain pain pain - help?????

okay - please bear with me - I have alot to say and am very tired of
the pain i have gone through - i was hit by a car (ran the stop sign
righti in front of a cop) long story short - I settled my claim in
December only because I ended up neglecting my needs as well as my
childrens - 7 and 17 - single mom - i have cervical spine and nerve
damage - i have lower back ddisc damage - and two knees damaged - one
from a fall (workman's comp) and one from the accident .... I am so
sick and tired of running from doctor to doctor - my symptoms now have
developed into what I believe is Fibromyalgia - my family doctor says
arthritis - in all my joints and muscles???  I have to litterally
move my knees a 1/4 " at a time - to get out of bed - I amgetting so
depress - my neuro has me on morphine 30 mg x 3 daily - but this new
situation just popped up about three-four weeks ago - my arms go
completely numb so bad then it turns into excrutiating pain - and all
day my muscles and joints all hurt hurt hurt - my family doctor put me
on flexeril and wants me to take celebrex but i won't because I am
afraid - does anyone have a website - that is reasonably priced and
will supply percocet or vicodin without a prescription ??? I have tried
several but I think they scramble things up a lot ... so that you can't
trace anything and then sometimes you  can't even get you money
back - I am getting very depressed - yes I am on zoloft also -
antidepressant - can someone please help???

We can't help you here since discussion regarding online pharmacies is not allowed.

The only links permitted at Pharmer.org are:

  • Drug manufacturers' sites
  • Authoritative medical sites
  • Authoritative drug identification sites
  • Educational sites
  • Non-profit/non-commercial homepages

Two educational websites that might be able to help you are:

Both websites are free online discussion boards that talk about domestic and international pharmacies (and many other topics).    Very educational - member feedback determines which online pharms are scams and which are legitimate.

Beware of sites that charge a monthly subscription for pharmacy info.  All you will receive for your money are outdated lists.

Check the forums at

Check the forums at Drugs.com look under the featured conditions. They often have many posts regarding various conditions and there should be some people there that can help you. Use the search feature first and look for your condition and read all of the info. then post.

I am not a doctor, but it would appear to me that adding a pain med like vicodin on top of the Morphine 3xdaily wouldn't be very affective, or safe. I have heard many people with this problem talk about Soma being effective on top instead. There are many many links out there for Fibromyalgia, but I'm sure I don't have to tell you that many doctors honestly don't "believe" or "buy into it". So do online research. Here is one link www.fmnetnews.com

I found pages of links/info through a simple google search. I hope this helps and maybe someday Fibromyalgia will be more recognized by physicians than it is today.
