I used to feel the same way

I used to feel the same way you do about brand name.  I would only buy the brand name becaue in my head I felt they worked better.  As a general statement go with the generic.  It is exactly the same as the brand name, maybe slightly different fillers.  Dont waste your money.  If you want to try it to test it out then go right ahead.

Name brand drugs

It is of course up to the doctor, but I can't think of a reason why your doctor wouldn't do it if asked.  All he/she has to do is sign on the line for brand only.  The other line says something like substitution permitted.  Ask your doc and see what happens.  A lot of times there isn't much difference in the medication, but the exceptions to that.

 Depending on where you live

Depending on where you live as long as the doctor writes Zoloft or Klonopin on the prescription and not the generic name you can request name brand yourself without the doc writting DAW or signing the DAW line. If you have insurance some companies wont pay for it unless its the doctors orders, but if your paying cash or know ur insurance policy just ask the pharmacist to fill with name brand.

cash

you will be paying cash for the script unless your doc writes daw.if not u pay the difference in price, thats why u get the generic .i have bcbs and if it doesnt say DAW i have to pay the difference which can be alot,or just daw it yourself.i dont recommend that kidding,it is your right to have name brand, most drs understand if not you will pay for something that there may be no difference in,i used to take the name brand klonopin besides looking cool and a higher copay, script was daw,i think they had same effect as all the generics, cant tell a difference at least with that med.

It depends on your plan, I

It depends on your plan, I have blue cross/blue shield also. I don't pay the differnce in price, I just pay $0.00 for generics or $10.00 for name brand, regardless of what med it is. Even the really expensive...Actiq, $10.00; fentanyl citrate x*#&er??(whatever the generic says, I'm too lazy to get up and look) $0.00. Check your plan details.

I checked an on-line

I checked an on-line pharmacy, they charge $50.54/30 for Klonopin, and $11.99/30 for Clonazepam.

you have to ask your plan if

you have to ask your plan if they'll pay for brand name, or how much extra.  I don't have a plan but generics work fine for me.  The thing is, if name brand is importtant to you, the placebo effect can be incredibly powerful.  So for you, the brand-name might work much better.  For someone else, no diff.

the chemistry where there is a generic, must be identical. However, quality of ingredients and control of process vary by company as with any product.

With drugs it is not quite

With drugs it is not quite the same as potato chips.  The FDA has strict guidelines that ensure the quality of generic drugs is the same as brand name drugs.   I take all generics myself for cost consideration, and always prescribe generics when they are available.
