I am currently on 300mg Seroquel XR and Xanax 1mg 4x a day.. I was on 300mg of Wellbutrin SR, but it caused me to have 2 major seizures, the most recent one causing me to dislocate my shoulder... So my psych scratched the Wellbutrin and bumped up the Xanax... My anxiety has been getting worse, with fear of another seizure... I'm wondering i anybody is on a long acting anxiety med with an IR, such as Xanax... THe Wellbutrin was my long acting med, and I cannot take SNRIs or SSRIs.. And.. my doc won't prescribe Xanax XR because he claims they are ineffective.. What about Klonopin with the Xanax??? Is that done?

If their is a danger of

If their is a danger of seizure maybe diazepam would be a good choice as it is log acting. But best discussed with your doc.

IMO

Valium (diazepam) would be a better choice for you personally with the seziure problem. The only time I know of when a Dr. will prescribe two benzodiazepines concurrently is for example, someone who takes Klonopin or Xanax for anxiety and needs something for sleep like Dalmane or Restoril.  Although this isn't done as much now a days, because of the plethora of other drugs prescribed for sleep...Ambien, Sonata, Lunesta, Trazodone, Seroquel....etc.  As far as Xanax XR is concerned, I gave it a try and was not impressed at all. Even though I was taking essentially the same mg's, it just didn't work as well for me, and honestly I haven't heard alot of good things about it from patients or doctors.  The price is very prohibitive compared to the IR version, and IMO def. not worth it...That's just my .02...

I work in behavioral health

I work in behavioral health and the only benzos that I've seen prescribed to be taken at the same time are temazepam/restoril and clonazepam/klonopin. But as stated one is for anxiety one is for insomnia..

valium

Been on valium.... didn't help with the anxiety though for some reason.. I had to take almost 90mg a day of it until the switch was made to lorazepam(ativan) then to the xanax... I'm going to talk with my shrink tho about klonopin maybe... cause i've read it's great for seizures too and its longer acting than the xanax or ativan was.  He suggested adding topamax over the phone, but wants to wait till my visit to add meds (which, thank god is in like 11 days......lol, not that i'm counting down or anything)  He said that it's great for preventing seizures, migranes, panic attacks, etc.. So that sounds like a good mix to throw into my daily med cocktail, which sadly seems to be rather large for being only 20 :-(
