Its not necessarly that Xanax is not as strong as Lorzepam its just a different drug although extremely similar.  I personally have found Lorzepam to be a ton better than Xanax.  Xanax made me literally exhausted the next day or that day, and usually made me exhausted when I took it.  Lorzepam didn't, it just easied the edge off my anxiety that I get from time to time.  I would say try Lorzepam 1mg, and if that is too much, you can always break the tablet in half which is what I wind up doing from time to time.  I just find that Lorzepam just takes the edge off, while Xanax takes the edge off and then takes the rest, lol!  Hope this helped.

Main difference= Half life

Main difference= Half life of each drug.

Xanax is quicker acting, with a shorter half life.
Ativan is a little slower acting, with a somewhat longer half life.

Both are Schedule IV drugs in the benzodiazepine family.

I hope this helps, but the original question is like asking "Why doesn't my apple taste like a pear?"

Two drugs in the same family does not make them alike.  They just work on the same receptors in the brain, mainly the GABA receptors.

My main question was just

My main question was just basically would I feel any withdrawls from going to Lorazapam from doing 6mg's of xanax for 2 months. Is xanax that much stonger then Lorazapam?  Are the only basic differences is that xanax makes you tired more easier and that the Lorazapam has a longer half life?

My DR. also says the xanax give you too much of a rush/ I really never experienced a rush, has anyone else?

Also last let me which would you prefer and whay? (Lorazapam or xanax , both generic)

Any inpt will br greatly apptreciated .

Your funny...I didn't see the "withdrawl" question anywhere in your original question.....lol

Listen to gtrplayer...he is normally right on the mark.

I used to prefer xanax over lorazapam....But because i'm a recovering addict and the more effects I felt, the better of drug I thought it was. If I could be more responsible with them and had to pick which one to take to acheive just the original reason I was on them and still function normally, I would pick the lorazapam.

Xanax vs Klonopin

I know I should start a new thread and I'm sorry for high-jacking this one but I basically wanna know the all the same info in this thread except compare xanax(alprazolam) to klonopin(clonazepam) instead of yo lorazepam.   Which is stonger and and the differences and all that.

Eagles07,    Check this

Eagles07,

Check this link to Benzo.org for a comparative list on benzodiazepines as they relate to one another.

I would post the chart, but it's a rather large "image", so I think the link works better in this situation.

Thanks for the link....

I think I've been there before but I forgot about it... but basically what I got out of it was that xanax and klonopin are basically the same in strenth and everything else, the only difference being klonopin has the longer half-life.

Loraz

I took lorazepam for 10 yrs, for anxiety and insomnia. It does make you sleepy and is slightly less addictive than alprazolam(xanax). MG for mg-they are about the same 1mg xanax might be equivalent to 1-1.5mg Ativan. Personally, I can't stand xanax, it does nothing for me, nothing.

I think the rush your Dr. was referring to is xanax makes some ppl "drunk" and ativan is less likely to do that because the onset is slower. I never took more then 3mg ativan/daily so I don't know how your Dr. will bring you down from 6mg xanax? I doubt you'll get 6mg ativan. I think you'll be just fine with the ativan, I haven't taken it in 3yrs and never went through withdrawal when I stopped cold turkey.

Eagles07, that is pretty

Eagles07, that is pretty much the only difference I could see as well.  Someone who knows more about each drugs specifics may be able to tell us what the major differences are, but half life is about the only thing I can find.
