I have been taking 160mg oxycontin for twice daily for 2 years. My doctor now thinks I should change to methadone. I finally feel like I can function normally on this dose and now he wants me to switch. I don't want to change my medication. I had to fight my insurance company to get them to pay for the medication. I am finally getting around better and not in agonizing pain any longer. Is there something I can do other than try and find another doctor??? Any suggestions. Thanks.

Does this mean you are taking a total of 160mg daily (one 80mg tablet twice daily)?

Or that you are taking 160mg twice daily (two 80mg tablets twice daily) for a total of 320mg?

Be honest with the doctor,

Be honest with the doctor, tell 'em you do not want to switch - explain to 'em why... I'm on methadone now, & this is one of the strongest drugs I've been on... to me, it's stronger than percocet - but I prefer oxycodone as this has some really bad side effects -even on a very lose dose I'm always very tired and in a dream-like state where I'm very confused...

Good luck.
