ok, so i have been on pain meds for 2 years now. i generally was on oxycodone 10/325.......and let me tell you i got so addicted to that it wasnt funny. i started out right, u know, 4 a day. well, then i started to get used to it and wanted more..so i bought them off of the street (which isnt cheap by the way not to mention highly illegal) i was up to sometimes more than 25 a day. i found oxycodone 5 mg w/ out the tylenol, vicodin, loritabs, norco's ,oxycontin of all degrees. well, it was ok for a while, then, all the sudden, i couldnt find ANY. so here comes the withdrawal symptoms which i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy as all of u probably know. it was maybe 2 days and then relief finally arrived. my insurance ran out so then i relied on finding them myself which isnt easy either. i do have legitamate pain, however. i finally had enough and went to a pain management doctor and paid out of my pocket. where i live it isnt to expensive to my surprise. so i told her everything that was going on, and she put me on 4 methadone a day for pain. let me tell all of you that have been on vics, oxy's and the such that this methadone is wonderful for my pain. i'm not sure about physically but they are no where near as mentally addictive. the low dose that she has me on 10 mg tablets are great. they take care of the pain without being all "cracked out". i have stuck to the 4 a day and sometimes less if i dont need them. it also was a very easy transition from the oxy's. i'm not a professional as u can tell, but i wanted to share my story and let all of u know there are other drugs besides the highly addictive oxycodone. i know it is a wonderful drug but if u have no will power like i do maybe u should ask about methadone if u want off of oxycodone. my doc said the ratio is 3 to 1, so for every 3 oxycodone u take, u will only need 1 methadone tablet. i know methadone is usually used for withdrawal symptoms from heroin and such, but they are finding that when taken in low doses that it is highly helpful in pain management. there's my story, hopefully i helped someone out!
I was on methadone for a while for pain management. Ihad neurons misfiring pain signals to my brain, creating pain for me, but there really was no cause. I liked it - it seemed to wrok well
i was just trying to tell people that it may work why not ask? that's all. i hope nobody would self medicate. of course u need to go to your doctor. the only reason i said the ratio is because some people dont like taking alot of pills and you usually can take less of these for pain. that's all i was trying to say!

That's a little misleading for someone who is not opiate tolerant, and may run across this information and try to self medicate, which is never advisable.
I don't know if your doctor took into consideration the differences in strengths of Oxycodone, or if you failed to post which strength you are speaking of when posting this "conversion". This is especially true if you're dealing with Oxycodone Extended Release or Oxycodone Regular Release.
I'm glad you found some relief with Methadone, but there is one last thing about your post that might confuse people. Methadone has been gaining popularity in chronic pain management centers as a LA med, so it's gone from being reserved for opiate addicts to being Rx'd for pain management as well. I'm not sure what the ratio is as far as "Addict: Pain Patient" prescriptions, but I'm willing to bet that it's running close to 50/50 right now.
I could be wrong as far as the estimate goes, but I know that it is being prescribed more frequently for chronic pain.
