Three days ago I was rx'd methadone as part of a new pain managment plan. I am not sure if the methadone is the cause but, I have had bad gas the last couple days aswell. It seems that I am getting more gas day by day. IS GAS an "official" sideeffect of metahdone? IF not have any of you guys noticed more gas?

I think, if i recall

I think, if i recall correctly, methadone can sometimes speed you're digestive system, so maybe it's not that you're having more gas, perhaps you just notice it more because it happens more frequently, especially right after you eat.

methadone side effects

after being on methadone for pain the last 4 years I did not notice gas as an issue,  the biggest problem is lots of sweats.  Also methadone slows down the digestive system.  I had to use laxatives and the occasional enema.  Good luck

Gas

I was rx'd methadone a few years back......it does slow down your digestional motility as do most opiates, some more than others.  Methadone for me didn't really produce constipation as much as say hydrocodone or morphine, but 3 things you can do with any opiate to prevent the constipation (and maybe your gassiness) is to 1) Drink plenty of water with each dose, at least 8oz. 2) Take 2 gas relief tabs (simethicone, available OTC as gasX or gas relief, 2 or 3 times a day. and 3rd- start taking fiber suppliments such as a soluble fiber caplets (citrucel or equiv).....the key is the water, because the fiber will make you more constipated if u don't drink enough water, esp. while you're on opiates. Also watch what u eat, sometimes things such as milk and cheese(maybe lactose intolerant), beans and cabbage will produce more gas in your intestines naturally.
