Just recently went to my pshyciatrist and asked her about getting put on some sort of add/adhd medication along with some sort of anti-anxiety meds. She told me that because of my "addiction" to marijuana .... which i dont feel as though i am addicted to it , that i will never be able to get any sort of narcotic medication for my syptoms. Im not sure what the deal is with that, but i have to many anxiety attacks or panic attacks and i cant concentrate in school. Does this sound right that i should not be able to get any sort of medication ? ? I can easily stop smoking any time i like, and would if i could get some sort of meds to help me in school and to help my anxiety. I have had panic attacks and axiety for the past three years since my mothers death. Some advice on the topic would be well appreciated. Thanks !!
Yes, i was talking to her about it , she can refer me to a doctor for meds .... or so she says. But i do not think the use of pot has done nething to my health or anything of the sort. I go with my father to see this lady, and i have to tell her everything or else he will haha ... but i guess u somewhat answered my question , ill try going to my family doctor and talking to her about it and tell her that i dont smoke any longer. Cause i actually did quite a while back. Thanks for the post.
If you can give it up then give it up. Get the meds you need. There are plenty of things you can do even if you don't give it up, why'd it come up anyway. Also the weed is probably giving you the psychological problems-anxiety maybe?
Check with a licensed MD before you take any suggestions!
Yes i can give it up , and yes the weed use sometimes will give me some anxiety for two-three weeks after i have quit. But still after that time i get anxiety attacks cause of all the &*&? that goes on in my life .... family, friends, jobs .... etc..... So i think some sort of anti-anxiety would be helpful to me. I just dont want to be put on something like welbutrin cause that takes 4-6 weeks to even start working , and i dont CONSTANTLY have panic attacks, but enough to where i would like something to help it. Ill try and get to a doc soon and see what she can do.
I agree with King. Stop smoking marijuana, and after being pot free for three to six months, your doctor may not be so adamant about no benzodiazapines and no stimulants, but will probably want random urine drug screens.
I don't think the answere to chronic anxiety is benzodiazapines however. The antidepressants are standard treatment. Buspar is a non-benzodiazapine anti-anxiety medication that may also help. Yes the treatment may take 4-6 weeks to begin working, but it will never start working if you never start the medication. I suspect you have had anxiety for more than 4-6 weeks already. You can probably tolerate another month or so.
Problems with poor concentration in school will probably improve when your other issues are delt with. Stimulants also cause....ANXIETY!

you confuse me on the narcotics from a psychiatrist/ I have always been honest with my pot use with all my drs, and imo its not a good idea to bring it up unless you feel its use is hurting you in some way. they think you just want something extra to get a buzz..just how i look at it.
I am not a Dr. I just play one on TV.
