My mother-in-law is visiting with me and she is from Cairo, Egypt. She is on multiple medications that were prescribed by her doctor in Egypt.

The other day, she took one of her medications and passed out about an hour or so later. I immediately rushed her to the hospital. She had regained conscienceness but was unable to communicate coherently and was drooling at the mouth.

I made the hospital aware that she had taken her medications that day and nothing was done any different than usual.

The doctor said that he thought she had consumed a very high dose of a sedative but was unable to tell me any other information because the medication was written in Arabic.

After being released from the hospital, I did some research and found out that the medication that she took was the Neurazine 100mg, however I have been unable to find any information on what Neurazine is prescribed for or the side effects from taking it.

I am hoping that someone here could do some research and give me any information that you may find on this medication.

Thanks so much!

Neurazine

Hi jeniferlynn.

From what I can tell, Neurazine is chlorpromazine hydrochloride (also spelled chloropromazine). It's an anti-psychotic drug.

You can find information about the drug at MedLine Plus:

Chlorpromazine

for a person

for a person not in strong need of this medication, 100mg could have exactly the effect noted in your post.

Thorazine

Jeez, no wonder she passed out....100 mg of thorazine (a major tranquilizer) is alot....Haven't you ever heard of the "thorazine shuffle"? It's also used to relieve nausea and vomiting and for intractable hiccups and as a sedative/tranquilizer.

I'm not a doctor, but would LOVE to play one on tv....
