Kind of off subject ... but any suggestions? Price is not really a factor. Anything greatly improved your neck and back health? I am slowly tapering from high volumes of Hydro. I have gone from up to ten a day down to 2 - 3. It is going pretty good considering I can get as many as I want. I have gotten to the point where I can go 20 hours or so between does if I need. I am never taking more than 10mg at a time now. I am hoping to get down to about 1.5 a day next week. I have been weeing down over the last 4 months. It has not been fun .. but I have a goal! I am just looking to get a mattress to help by back and neck as much as I can without the meds. I have looked at alot of them .... just figured I would ask being as alot of you are in related pain.
i sleep on a sterns and foster...i do have to flip it every few months.

This is actually a fantastic topic that I have researched on other sites. I'm not sure what is wrong with your back, but as for myself, I have Psoriatic spondylarothrapy(ankylosing spondylitis) osteo arthritis, RA, 3 compression fractures in my thoracic spine as well as just having cervical fusion from c3-c6. A great site for the AS/PSA is kickas and there are great discussion about all different kinds of pillows and matresses to help the different areas as well as over all. The most talked about are the memory foam and the adjustable. The concensus on the mem. foam is that it is great but very warm and if you live in a warm climate or are generally a hot person, there are comfort issues durring the summer heat as well as the typical issues that would be caused by too much sweating on the mattress. I personally am trying to save money for the adjustable one since you can adjust it to match what your body needs each night. Plus with a conventional, it might be great at first but need to be changed as your illness progresses which gets expensive. Good luck and I'll let everyone know about the adjustable if I ever have the money. Also good to know is if you need to change your matress for health reasons your MD can write it on a script and you can deduct it on that years taxes. Of course that doesn't help up front but is better than nothing.
I have several medical issues(back and leg surgeries) and finally went out and bought a new VERLO Mattress which cost over $1000.usc. It made a big difference and I was so glad I bought it. One piece of information that I would give to you is make sure you go into the store and try every mattress available. Take off your shoes and lay on every mattress you will be very surprised to feel a big difference with each mattress. I was thinking of buying one off the Verlo website because they set up the website so you can describe the mattress that you want. The owner of the store basically told me that I MUST come into the store, which I did and made a huge difference to me. They make these mattress with different material and padding so try and feel the differences. They also suggest flipping the mattress every thirty(30) days which I do but is hard without help. The mattress I have has arrows on the mattress to tell you which direction to flip it. Good sleeping!
are a big deal to me...i can't find one that stays firm very long..i am a side sleeper..any brand suggestions?

dmbguitar,
This is not off topic at all. It is a medical issue, and many members might have some advice for you.
As for me, my bed has the memory foam stuff on it, and I love it. I have heard many people have had success with the Restonic brands of beds, but can not speak from experience. I think the Restonic beds are the ones that allow you to set the firmness on a dial.
Look around at different "specialty" mattress stores. Even some convalescent care centers might be able to give you a more thorough choice or, at the very least, a list of places to try to find a comfortable bed for your situation.
