Ok
I have been a longtime lurker and this is my first post. I have read every comparison and wanted to put those posts to the test. After 5 years of vicodin for a chronic condition, my doc said lets try a CII. Opana didn't agree with me and I had been prescribed oxy ir after my open gallbladder surgery and a 5 day hospital stay due to multiple bile duct stones so my doctor prescribed 15mg ir 4 times a day. I get my prescriptions every 15 days per my lovely socialistic insurance company. and now after 3 months I have had each one 2 seperate times for 15 days each.
Ethex 445 , has the best pain control, lasted the longest, and only caused mild constipation.
generally If I missed a dose , I could wait until the next one was due with no adverse effects.
I once went 15 hours in between and still had no symptoms of dependence like I would with the others.
Actavis (Amide) was the biggest dissapointment. After reading all of the posts about amide I thought I would be satisfied . Well, I was not. It did have decent short term analgesia, but I was always waking up early in the morning and had to take a dose just to get out of bed.
Mallincrodt had a decent analgesia, but it too was short acting, too short.. and I had to dose just to get out of bed..plus the GI effects including upset stomach, Nausea etc. was present daily. Sorry but these things are junk science.
In conclusion , I read somewhere to follow the money. Rie- Aid bought Eckerd. (JC Penny owned Eckerd) I got the last batch of Ethex from my local Rite Aid(Eckerd). The pharmacist said their computer indicated they would be using Mallincrodt in the future. *(TYCO...Kozloski (sp.?) rings any bells?) Our local chain of supermarkets just switched to mallies from Ethex and Walgreens has Actavis. I found a mom and pop and they had Actavis also at 10 dollars less than Walgreens...go figure.
My point is this...find what works for you and confront your pharmacist with what works for you and insist on the brands that work for you. Don't just believe that "all generics are created equal becasue the overwhelming evidence as told by all of your folks on the net indicates otherwise. Insist that your pharmacy get you what works for you and don't pay for an inferior product...and if they look at you funny,,, look back at them funny!
For me, Ethex 445 is a cheap effective medicine and I have gone so far as to make them aware that their market share in my community is being squeezed my Mallies. aND EVEN THEY WERE SURPISED WHEN THEY CALLED THE PHARMS and found out they were losing out.
There is no free lunch. All of these "cheap presciption drug" schemes that are in vogue by the big guys have to be paid for. And it is being done by large quantities of inferior product being delivered to market and you and I ultimately pay.
Except that when it involves narcotics, health care providers can make the wrong assumptions such as abuse of your medicine, when in reality it is just a good product vs and inferior product. The ramifications are serious.
Knowledge is power. And the internet when taken in the aggregate, on is able to vette a hypothesis to something pretty close to the way it really is.
Ethex is making a quality product, for me, just make sure that your voice is heard so that whatever works for you will be available, for you.
footnote: I was not able to aquire Xanodyne (roxanne). no one would even order it for me.
Its weird you mention nausea with the Mallinckrodt brand Oxycodone products. I never experienced nausea from opiates/opioids until I had the Mallinckrodt generic percocet 5/325, so I thought maybe I was sensitive to Oxycodone until I tried the Vintage generic percocet 5/325, no nausea and twice as much pain relief.
My meds were recently switched . Now I'm prescribed the 15mg Roxicodone- Rite Aid filled it with the generic Mallinckrodt oxycodone. As for pain relief I've noticed the same - it's short acting. I'm prescribed 1 every 4 hrs however not even 2 hrs later any relief felt is gone. I have chronic pancreatitis and deal with enough GI problems - I certainly don't need the medication to exacerbate the problem.
Amide (activus)
They are good
Ethex also good
MK - not so good, but still somewhat effective
Purdue and Watson are the best
It's just that Purdue mainly does ER and Watson does APAP Mixes (well since they stopped making ABG's)
The only truly "bad" brand is Teva IMO
Just my 2 c's

I was able to aquire a temp supply of Xanodyne (Roxanne) 5mg. and I would say it is about 2/3rd's as good as the Ethex brand 15mg. So I plan to contact Xanodyne directly and have them find me a pharm that sells their product in my area.
I pay for my meds and I consider it like everything else, I want the best for my dollar and that applies to prescription drugs as well.
Here is a bill in the House of Represenatives...tell your Congressperson about H.R. 1863 and H.R. 2507/S. 1278 and others.
Get government out of our medicine cabs!
