Could the shortage of Oxycodone products be due not to poor manufacturing practices and recalls, but instead a lack of raw materials used in sythesis of the drug? i.e. materials coming from places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, etc. In other words, countries who are not on best political ground with United States at present time? (Thanks Lil' George.) Ethex might merely be a scapegoat. Somene put me in my place if I'm off base please, but...

I know that oxycodone requires thebaine, (a MINOR constituant of opium,) in large quantities for synthesis of Oxycodone. This is in contrast to Morphine, which is much more easily obtainable from the raw latex.

Perhaps the United States "war on drugs" abroad and strict limitsplaced on poppy cultivation the DEA has in place in countries all over the world might have something to do with all of the hassle many of you are trying to endure. If you are able to find it, the government certainly isn't hurting from the price gouging, and subsequent increases in tax revenue...

Marijuana isn't the only cash crop the DEA likes to slash and burn..." Before anyone dismisses this post as a consiracy theory, think about how the United States DEA has devestated the Coca farmers in places like Bolivia, and Peru. All throughout Central and South America for that matter. These people grow these crops as a way to make a living.

Hard to believe that in the "land of plenty" so may people are having to go without and are in a panic to find the medicine they've relied on for so long.

Are

some people still haveing trouble getting oxycodone IR products? I had to go to 2 diffrent pharms yesterday. The second pharm could only fill half the scipt but I went ahead and did it and got the vintage pharm brand witch is better than mckrodt. IMO. I live on the gulf side of florida. Near Krystal River.

Half the script

What are you going to do for the 2 weeks you will have to go without your oxycodone?  Or are you planning on only taking half of what you would normally take in one day?  There was one time when I was a little short on money so I was only going to get half of my Percocets filled(before I was switched to Roxicodone)  'til the pharmacist told me that if I did so I couldn't come back and get the other half later in the week.  So I borrowed the money from my sister and filled them all.  I was unaware that if I only filled half the script that the other half would be considered a refill.

Im not positive on this but I

Im not positive on this but I dont think the stuff going on overseas has anything to do with the oxycodone IR shortage because if it did than that would mean there would be a shortage on all oxycodone products like OxyContin too. Im currently on OxyContin and there is no shortages at all on the brand name ones but Mallinkrodt discontinued there generic oxycontins so now there is only going to be brand name ones. And if the overseas stuff was influencing the shortage than wouldnt there be a shortage on all opiates and not just the oxycodone IR. thats just my opinion and theory, but i could be wrong.
