Spotted this: http://www.pharmer.org/node/5627

According to the text, it's a placebo birth control pill.

What's the point in making such things? What if someone thinks she won't get pregnant, because she's on the (placebo) birth control pills and then notices being pregnant, because the pill was - in fact - placebo?

A bit confusing, that is...

"Placebo pills

The purpose of the placebo pills is that the user, out of habit, can take a pill on every day of her menstrual cycle, instead of calculating the date she should start the next dose. Placebo pills may contain an iron supplement, as iron requirements increase during menstruation.

Failure to take pills during the placebo week has no effect on the effectiveness of the pill provided that daily ingestion of active pills is resumed at the end of the week.

The presence of placebo pills is thought to be comforting, as menstruation is a physical confirmation of not being pregnant. The 28-day pill package also simulates the average menstrual cycle, though the hormonal events during a pill cycle are completely different from those of a normal ovulatory menstrual cycle, and the bleeding is triggered by different homonal cues. Breakthrough bleeding also becomes a more common side effect as a woman attempts to go longer periods of time between menstrual periods."

Precisely- you have a pill

Precisely- you have a pill to take every day. I personally never took the placebo pills- if it is 'that week', you generally know it. Some birth control pill packs have a different colored pill for each week.

Yeah, all 28 day birth

Yeah, all 28 day birth control pills have a placebo week. I also prefer not to take mine, it makes my periods heavier. Just to keep you in the habit of taking pills and to track where you're at in your cycle.

Give us more info

Since you had your period this month or since you first starting having periods?  Have you gone to an OB/GYN to see if the cause of the pain can be figured out?  Give us some more info (more the better) and we can help you.  Remember, we are not doctors but we have life experiences.  If you have an IUD you will most likely have heavier and worse cramps.  I know, I have one. I know you are new, but start a new thread when asking a question unrelated to the thread topic.  Htmom
