I was at my pharmacy today and heard someone speaking say that in 2 months the prices of Watson ABG generic Oxycontin pills in all the mg they make would be increasing due to lawsuits pending against the manfacture . My doc has been giving me the 80 mg ABG pills and my prescription cost about $850 for 1 months supply from the pharmacy I am using. They said the prices for the same script will cost around $2000 when the price increase hits in about 2 months. I wanted to know if this is true and if anyone else has heard anything else about it...
Well, if all generics are pulled from the market as planned except for the "Purdue approved" generics, then the price may very well increase.
After all, the generics are infringing a patent, so if there is any generic still on the market and cheaper than the 'brand name' in a couple of months, it will be better than nothing.
Thanks for your reply. I am paying out of pocket my insurance will not cover it. I thought that price increase was crazy also( if it is indeed true). Do you guys think it is possible for such a huge increase on these pills due to the whole perdue approved only deal?? Does anyone else have any input on this?? Do you think that prices on Watson ABG's will really go that high??
I certainly hope a large increase like that doesn't happen. According to Purdue and also found on Wikipedia, Watson (ABG) is the exclusive generic distributor of Oxycontin.
Taken from Wikipedia:
It has multiple patents for their drug OxyContin, but has recently been involved in a series of on going legal battles deciding on whether or not these patents are valid. On June 7th, 2005, the United States Court of Appeals upheld a decision from the previous year that some of Purdue’s patents for OxyContin could not be enforced. This decision allowed and led to the immediate announcement from Endo Pharmaceutical Holdings, Inc. that they would begin launching a generic version of all four strengths of OxyContin[4]. Purdue, however, had already made negotiations with another pharmaceutical company (IVAX Pharmaceuticals) to distribute their brand OxyContin in a generic form. This contract was severed, and currently Watson Pharmaceuticals is the exclusive U.S. distributor of the generic versions of OxyContin Tablets. The agreement stipulates that "Purdue will manufacture and supply oxycodone HCI controlled-release tablets to Watson, which will market, sell, and distribute the authorized generic product in 10, 20, 40, and 80 milligram dosages in the United States"

i do not think they will go that high but they could raise
It sounds totally outrageous that you are paying so much for your meds. May i suggest that you call all of the local pharms in your area and compare prices. I am sure you can find a pharm that carries it for cheaper than that.

MY GOD! those prices are outrageous.
no, i have not heard of the price hike you speak of, however, are you using insurance? if not, maybe you could talk to your doctor about a more affordable alternative?
best of luck to you!
