today my Dr took me off zoloft 100 mgs and put me on seroquel 50 mgs it sounds like
seroquel has sum bad side affects like tiredness i do suffer from mild insomnia, depression
& panic attacks. i'am afraid i wont be able to function at work! thoughts on this
anyone ?
Most likely you are being prescribed to take it at bedtime, thats how this medication is indicated. My suggestion would be to go to bed atleast a few hours earlier than you normally would, I had this same problem with Trazadone. (Next day tiredness almost zombie like, lol)
I took 100mg of seroquil once and it is impossible to stay away on it at least for me...The second i start to feel it i go into a zombie like state and pass out. It is impossible for me to stay awake on anything more than 50mg. I also get slightly shakey and wake up 4 hours after the dose is given. So it helps me sleep for 3-4 hours then i have a very scarey feeling like i overdosed so i will never take this again. I prefer ambien or lunesta to help me go to sleep over seroquil.
They used to have me on 100mg during the day, 3x and a 300mg at night.
Them things turned me into a zombie, all I wanted to do was sleep. Couldnt function right at all.
Before that I was on zoloft 50mg (i think it was 50), but didnt get anything from them.
Actually, I guess, got nothing from both. Then got switched to Klonopin 2x day, and 2 tabs at night. (2mg) And wow, what an improvement that made! Dont ask me why the zoloft and seroquel got prescribed, then Klonopin. They arent really in the same category of drug. Who knows???
Dr. Knight
I am interested in what you were actually prescribed those meds for knightmetal as i know klonopin will help you sleep and i have a weird reaction to seroquel. Was it for anxiety induced insomnia...if so i can see the klonopin being prescribed. Actually I would prefer a benzo like xanax or klonopin for any sleep disorder as they relax me and put me in a very nice mood for sleeping however seroquel just makes me feel like a zombie and then knocked me out....the benzos i can still function on...and yet if i had to sleep i could do that too very nicely. however i never tried zoloft

Yes, you got it! As far as the seroquel goes - I agree, turned me into a white Zombie as well. I prefer benzos as well..

Hmm perhaps i need to go speak to my doctor then because the only time i have gone to my doctor to speak about my anxiety disorder/ anxiety induced insomnia he prescribed me lunesta the first time and ambien the second....however i think i should go back and insist on benzos because the lunesta and ambien helped very little .....yet did not take away my problems. I am just too scared of the doctor thinking i am just a drug seeker when i know that a benzo is what truely would help me because i have taken them off prescription before (yes i know its wrong). I just wish doctors would believe that a patient would actually know what would help best for them from doing research and experimentation even if we didn't go to med school.
seroquel was prescribed for my mild insomnia and depression.
also aprasolam for panic attacks, last nite i took half my dose
25 mgs and slept OK but today i felt '"out there" all day. i was
on lexapro but changed to welbutren because my copay was
50$ but welbutren didn't seem to do much for me so my last
DR. put me on zoloft now my new DR. put me on this seroquel
i don't know what to think or whats right these meds all take
time to build up in your system but the side affects x*#& !

Yeah, they had the same effect on me.. "WHITE ZOMBIFIED"!
Dr. Knight
does anyone have thoughts on what might be a better option for
me ?------- thanks !
Actually Seroquel was designed to be an anti psychcotic used to treat voices and for paranoid people. My momwas on it and I have a friend that has severe mental illness and she takes it. I have tried it myself due to a desperation for sleep. Bad nightmares!! You could ask for Elavil, they use that for many things(click on link for information regarding Elavil). Also Seroquel is %@$$*## the liver as well.
Good luck & God Bless You!
whatever you do you need to pick a antidepressant and stick with it for a while...sometimes the side effects will subside...you gotta give the drugs time to do the job/build up in the system.
restoril is a decent sleeping pill. 15 or 30 mg.
im not a dr but i play one on tv.
I've been on Seroquel for quite awhile. I'm prescribed 300mg per day(taken at night of course) but I typically only tke 100-150 mgs unless I know I'll be able to sleep as long as I could. Like most of ya'll I'm not too fond of the sensation it induces but it has helped me stay on a rather even keel.
I was switched over to Zyprexa for a bit but don't recall how it worked.
I went back to Seroquel for some reason. At one time along with the Seroquel I was also prescribed Effexor XR 75 mg and Xanax 1mg. I was taken off the Effexor and really didn't notice any change, but my Seroquel was increased at the same time so..................
My doctor took me off the Xanax. He said he was concerned about the possibility of dependancy. I tride to get him to prescribe it to me again the last time I visited him but he refused. It's kinda' a bummer because the Xanax really helped me out with me anxiety.
But as far as the Seroquel side effects go I also have very weird dreams(wife says I'm talikng all kinds of junk in my sleep) and it "zombies" me out. I can deal with it though. I don't have any residual effects in the morning though. This is because I alternate the dosage at night based on when I have to get up the next day. You have to give these types of meds some time and learn how your body/mind reacts to them. Once you get a good understanding of how it affects you then you can experiment with dosages and dose times so that you get the desired benefits from your meds and reduce some of the sides that aren't desirable.
One time then and once again I'm bouncing 'round the room.
i have been taking seroquel for insomnia and it helps me some of the time. i take 200mg cut in half at bedtime. this is normally used for bi-polar disorder and can have long term side affects like diabetes, but i believe that is you take large doses many times a day. as for talking to your doctor about the right meds for you i have told many people thatt if you are nervous about asking for a specific drug just tell your doctor that you tried one and you noticed that it had helped you, they might only give you a trial amount depending on your history or health but this i find is an easier way to bring it up
you could try asking for diazapam instead it is in tthe same family and doctors seem to think it has les tendancy for addiction. some don't like to mix seroquel with a depressive like any azapam family because of possible respiratory affects while sleeping
I took both zoloft and celexa for depression.i really didnt like either of these. they made me feel nervous but i did have less of a side effect with celexa. as for insomnia i take clonidine and its pretty effictive. i would say defently seek somthing other than seroquel that stuff makes you dog tired. good luck!
i am not a doctor or pharmacist. i go by experience only. please seek suggestions from a real doctor.
This is an interesting question. I guess I missed it before. Seroquel for treatment of mania in bipolar disorder is usually 100-800mg a day. Seroquel for schizophrenia is usually 50-300mg a day. Some people who do not have a good response to a regular antidepressant, may have undiagnosed bipolar disorder and will respond better to an antidepressant plus an anti-mania medication (like seroquel) or mood stabilizer (like lithium), or another dual purpose medication like Abilify or Lamictal. Seroquel is often used off label at bedtime to promote sleep in people who are at risk for addiction or who are also on narcotics. Elavil is an antidepressant that is also very sedating at least initially and is often given in a single dosage at bedtime.
Unfortunatly, treatment of psychologic disorder is involves a lot of trial and error.

I took 200 mgs zoloft for over 2 years.//.seroquel is way different...50 mg would make me tired as heck i weigh 220..you are supposed to get used to it the dr will say..
im not a dr but i play one on tv.
