Hi...I take Soma for pain due to bad intestinal adhesions. I am scheduled for an adhesion surgery in Germany (a better procedure for getting rid of adhesions). So the past several months, I have been taking SOMA (more in the last several weeks). I am going to Germany in November; I am just nervous that I have become addicted...how would I know? And how many mg.'s a day would be a high dose? Or does it depend on how long you've been taking it? I want to take this prescription with me on my trip to Germany...but if I'm addicted to it, I want to start going off of it now; because I'm sure withdrawal symptoms during rocovery from surgery would be very hard! So if anyone has any answers or advice...
Thanks, TerriBelle.
I had a friend who died 8/08 from this drug. I am so scared for people just starting with one. My late friend fought the soma coma for a long time & she tried so many times to stop. It was horrible, she obtained her 3-4 scripts of 90 each on a weekly basis. The internet was her supplier. Over the course of her addiction she broke bones, split her head open, & she fell into a fire hot weber grill with red hot coals stuck to her legs. She broke both of her shoulders, at consecutive different times. She smashed her ankle and had to have a major reconsructive surgery with steel rods put in. She was so lost on that stuff. I know for her she was so hooked - I hope that you realize I am not trying to be a *^!& here- her death was horrible -more importantly it hurt her family so badly & her son found her. Also her 14 year old daughter. Good luck with your surgery, if you feel you are addicted get out while you can, get help-with all sincere intentions blueangel
I really think soma is BAD.Blue Angel, none of what you are saying surprises me at all.
I don't think most people (including doctors) have ANY idea how dangerous this drug is.
I've seen so many people "Somatized" over the last twenty years. Since it is a muscle relaxer, a person loses their coordination, resulting in injury. In some of the worst cases, booze and other depressant drugs are combined with the Soma.
So your saying that most all depressants or sedatives should not be used because they are dangerous? Some people can take an anti anxiety pill like xanax and have loss of coordination resulting in injury. The same can be said about sleeping meds the higher potency opiates and any other drug that can have some sort of depressant effect. It is the using of them in an appropriate manner and when needed that they are alright and safe to use. Yes soma can be dangerous if your stumbling around abusing it but i compare its effects to being drunk and alcohol is perfectly legal and carries a very similar risk as Soma does . I am not trying to rationalize abusing it just trying to say that all muscle relaxers or sedatives or depressants in general effect coordination to a degree so it can be dangerous but the benefits far outweigh the risk.
Well said, frk. My Mom use to abuse Soma really bad and she wrecked her car, broke bones & so on. But it was ONLY because she abused it and would take 3-4 at a time. I use to take Soma back in 2000 and I remember many times I would be so bad off that I couldn't even walk and would fall asleep at the dinner table. After many embarrassing moments I finally just took myself off of them. But like you said, frk, if you take it AS PRESCRIBED it is a very effective Muscle Relaxer.

been on it myself for years...no problems...read your labels on your bottles...take it easy with them like all meds and you are pretty safe imo.
I am not a Dr. I just play one on tv.
I know several family members for whom are prescribed Soma. And they all benefit quite well from it. And I was on it in the past and I benefited quite well from it myself. Now I'm prescribed Flexeril because of moving and not being enabled to have my records faxed from that state to this state. Which caused my Dr. to not prescribe it to me. Which is understandable. All I need to do now is travel back to that state to pick up my records. My Dr. won't prescribe it to any patient unless they were prescribed it beforehand by another Dr. and can prove it through records. He said Soma is more addictive than Percocet and Xanax which I can't perceive to be true. But hey I'm not a Dr. so I can't easily dispute it anyhow. When I was prescribed Soma I was on three a day. And it helped tremendously. The Flexeril makes me much more drowsy than Soma ever did. Eventhough I've been on it going on three years. If I really cared so much about Soma I'd go pick up my records. But obviously it doesn't mean that much to me. I personally think more than six a day would be a high dose if you were using it in conjuction with other meds that can cause drowsiness. Just a guy going by personal experience.

Four a day is what I've personally seen prescribed. I hope you the best in overcoming anything you are encountering with Soma. Just a guy going by personal experience.
