I am going to a Dr tomorrow to get a script of Suboxone, I found this DR on the suboxone website (not my regular pain dr he was not listed) I know I am addicted but I have much real pain bottom 4 disc in my neck top 2 in back are herniated, arthritis in shoulders, hip that will need replaced in the next 3-5 years. I have a lot of legit pain, I am on 10/325 hydros for the last few years problem is I run out of a 30 day supply in 10-15 days. I have tried the suboxone that I got from a friend a few times it keeps my withdrawls away but the pain is almost unbearable. Anybody have any advice? Im not trying to sound like a cry baby but I am in a bad situation. I have not had a hydro in about 4 days now and have no cravings due to the suboxone but I can hardly function because of pain.. Anybody had any similar conditions? HELP
I agree...I was on suboxone for over a year, but it was strictly for opiate/heroin withdrawl and I had no legit pain issues. You wont be able to take any opiates on suboxone, they literally wont do anything, you wont feel them and to be honest they will do little for your pain you see the suboxone binds so strongly to your opiate receptors that any opiate consumed will not be able to get into a receptor.
For me personally suboxone was not the answer but I was dealing with a many years addiction and no pain issues as Ive said. I think a good idea for you would be to talk to your doctor honestly and maybe get on a LONG ACTING narcotic (oxycontin, MS contin...I know "scary" stuff) but when used for people with legit pain these drugs can be heaven sent...maybe get on a long acting and take a short acting for breakthru (something like norco, percocet, etc)...I feel that might be a better way to deal with your pain issues, and then maybe you wouldnt need to overuse as your pain would be properly dealt with.
Just my two cents. Good luck

Are you going through them because of pain? I assume if they really worked for you then you might not run out. If you went on the right dose of a long acting CII with something for break through with a doctor working with you to control pain? I would recommend going to a pain management doctor and talking to them. Just because you run out early doesn't mean you are abusing them.

There is no pain you are receding. A distant ships smoke on the horizon.....
Suboxone for pain has been extensively discussed on this site. While it is not approved for pain in the US, it is approved for use in chronic pain patients in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe, and Great Britan. It can be used for pain management (off lable use) by non-suboxone certified doctors in the US. If you are interested in using Suboxone for chronic pain management, talk to your pain management or primary care doctor. It has many advantages for treating chronic pain in patients who also have addiction disorder.
The suboxone has done its job today as far as withdrawl symptoms. I have had the headache that comes from my neck injuries the last couple hours it is horrible! I have taken 4 tylenol and had no relief, I wish so bad that I just took hydro's. I honestly pray that the pain will go away, but it won't. I go back to my pain management DR march 11 I have always been reluctant to discuss oxycotin with him because he is the type that makes you feel like a junkie if you know what I mean. Sometimes he will ask me is what you are taking enough? I always answer yes, other times he acts like I am some pill seeker. I hate this so bad, I know I am dependant, my ortho surgeon who repaired a rotator cuff in my shoulder and was going to operate on my neck told me I would live on pain meds the rest of my life. He said i quote "The condition of your neck is something you will need pain meds for forever. Do not let any DR convince you to do surgery on your neck because of the condition it is in. Most likely a operation on your neck would do much more harm than good" he is a very respected ortho surgeon who comes from a family of 7 ortho surgeons his dad and like 5 brothers 3 of which viewed my MRI's and they drew the conclusion together. I am in a helluva situation, my hip is just as bad the cartlidge in the hip socket is completely gone. I think this is a lose lose situation. I am however going to sit down and have a long heart to heart with my pain management DR he may refuse to see me again after I ask him about this, that is what scares me. Have any of you been in similar situations? I know this is in a long post but I need a outlet and you guys are a awesome support staff who can relate to what I am going through better than anyone I have talked to personally. Do you think he will stop seeing me if I talk to him about maybe oxy with norco for breakthrough pain? I have never called him early asking for more pills or showed any signs of abusing hydros to him. I just don't want to end up with nowhere to turn.

Are you sure the headache is from the neck injury? Have you tried treating it like a migraine? How much Suboxone are you on? For pain, I use up to 8mg four times a day. Did you look at the other threads about Suboxone for pain? Are you addicted to the narcotics or dependant on the narcotic? Addiction is a real problem. Dependancy is just something that comes with chronic but appropriate narcotic use. This has also been the subject of several threads.
There is an orthopedic surgeon in my town that has three or four kids that all went into orthopedic surgery and they all practice together!
Yes it is a common headache that I have had since my neck injury the pain starts in my neck and runs to behind my left eye. I have had it a 1000 times same thing every time.
I would try it with your current doc if you don't like the results, there are other pain doc's out there. Just my opinon for all the problems you have, hydros aren't much. I know they don't help my pain. If he makes you feel like a junkie, I would personally be looking for a doc that cares. Remember he is not doing this as a favor you are paying for the "care" he is giving.

Thanks for the support guys I am going to let him know how I really feel and where I am at as far as my pain goes. I just want to be able to make it through a day at work and enjoy my family without being miserable because of pain.

It sounds to me that your pain was best controlled by the norcos. Quite honestly, I think you should stay on them if they help with your pain, but perhaps talk to your doctor about prescribing them to you differently so that you are less likely to abuse them. Do you have a spouse or close friend that you could trust with your pills to dispense them to you? There is supposed to be a device that automatically dispenses your pills to you (can't remember the name right off hand) that may work for you if you could get your hands on one.
Suboxone is great for opioid withdrawal, but if you are still in pain then you are never going to be comfortable and satisfied. I'm guessing that meds like Ibuprofen and Naproxen don't work for your pain? I can't imagine they would, but it doesn't hurt to ask. But if you could get considerable releif from some type of non-opioid painkiller combined with the Suboxone, then perhaps the Suboxone could work for you.
While I agree that Suboxone is a wonderful medicine and has worked for so many people I know personally, it just isn't right for some people. That is a matter that will be best decided by your doctor and you. Best wishes....
