Suboxone for Pain

Suboxone is great for pain. I got tired of waiting on doctors to treat the chronic pain I deal with appropriately. I have gone through several facet injections and several Radiofrequency procedures to kill the pain in my back and been on vicodin andmorphine illegally for a few years. I got tired of the hunt for pain relief, the risk, and the cost. I went to see a suboxone doctor AKA addictions doctor and was treated with suboxone. It is on my pill bottle: FOR CHRONIC PAIN MANAGEMENT.

It is the best pain relief I have ever had. I sleep good, function better, and now have  a life beyond the search for pain pills. I was treated like a junkie rather than someone who had a medical condition so I told the doctor to get lost. I would treat the pain just find the problem and fix it. I ended up hopin from doc to doc for two years before getting treatment for Autoimmune disease which was eating up my connective tissue and then the third year got into a paion specialist who did his #%^*! job and did an MRI. Go figure the pain was not in my head I had seven protruded disks and a cyst in my cervical vertabrae. Guess the pain wasn;t in my head after all.

Facts from a User

Suboxone is better and more potent than morphine. It takes a couple days to build in your system but after that their is a euphoric effect. It partially antagonizes the u opioid receptor cite and blocks the k receptor cite preventing sedation. This is a great drug for chronic pain and second the narcolone is used to prevent junkies from using the stuff.

BS

I have taken morhine and vicodin while on suboxone. It takes a little higher of a dose ie 10 mg of hydro rather than 5 but it does not I repeat does not precipitae withdrawl. It actually intensifies the analgesia without increasing the buzz so to say.

exactly

While on Suboxone,

If you take a narcotic such as oxycodone, or morphine in my case for BT pain, it does take a bit of a higher dose, and DOES take away the pain, but it does not give the same euphoric effect.

BUT, if you are taking a narcotic such as oxy or morphine and it is still in your system, taking Suboxone will cause precipitated withdrawals!

So you must be clear of narcotics, get on suboxone, stabalize, and then you  can get BT medication in my opinion.

I guess it would be great for an addict who needs pain relief from additional narcotic meds, so guitarplayer you can get adequite pain relief from

being on suboxone, and then adding a bt narcotic, but

you don't get the high, or euphoria.  Just the pain relief, therefore helping patients with abuse potential take there BT meds properly since no

REWARD euphoria is experienced.

Talk to your doc gtplayer!  I'm not one, but it's what I gather, and when I requested  a trial of suboxone for Cpain it wasn't enough, but when I added some leftover mscontin it actually helped, and there were less side effects than usual, but it helped relieve pain.

After my trial, I went off suboxone and found a CHEAPER and more effective treatment.

Just a thought.

Suboxone

I have to agree about suboxone. While it does work well supressing withdrawls, it still does not stop the physcological cravings. Even though they say mmt does not produce a high it still for me gives me that elevated feeling that suboxone didn't. That was my deciding factor (besides the high cost of bupe) because that stops my cravings for oxy's. Have been in mmt for 2 years now at 70 mg's a day and have never had a relapse. I had several on bupe. I guess whatever works best for someone stick with it, but mmt saved my life. I wish the best of luck to everyone struggling.

Well my finacier for

Well my finacier for treatment said they couldn't afford to pay for my suboxone any longer, only the doctor's visits. Last week I went to the doc asking him to please switch me to subutex since it is generic and far cheaper; he told me no -- there is a post floating around here about it. Well, again, since I for sure cannot afford the suboxone now I will again ask him for the subutex and even beg. My finacier can float the $70 per week for the generic but cannot afford the $185 for suboxone brand. If he does not want to switch me then I have no alternative but to ask for methadone which is dirt cheap in comparison. I hate to do it but he is leaving me little choice since $185 a week out of pocket is crazy; and since it is not my pocket it is even worse.

Well it appears that my post

Well it appears that my post about my sub docs visit last week has been deleted, a long with a few other post, from last week.

I will say, like I did in the other thread, that I managed to convince my doc to switch me over to subutex generic. I pled my case that I wasn't at high risk of relapse and I wouldn't abuse the subutex. That will start next week. Usually I am mister information at our weekly group therapy meetings. Didn't want to let the cat out of the bag about the generic subutex. Didn't want to undermine his practice. So it will just be me at first on subutex to see how it treats me.

Now where in the h3ck did my post go and why? Love it when entire post come up missing and for no reason at all.

I was treated for my chronic

I was treated for my chronic pain w/ suboxone and it worked well. there were instances where I was ready to go to the ER because of pain and it helped. However, for some reason my body couldn't digest it correctly and the only way i could use the restroom was an enema and magnesium citrate. And I did have substance abuse problems however my doctor didn't know. he actually just kept pushing the drug on me until i found a way it was affordable through my insurance. So, I said okay to it and after telling him about the digestive problems he gave me a two week supply of my regular pain med and told me I was unable to see him anymore. I cannot take it but it is a wonderful long lasting pain reliever. But beware once you say yes you cannot go back to your regular pain reliever because you are then being treated with an addiction drug and they will move a new pain patient in.

Well I know that one of the Mods got rid of it for some odd ball reason.  Just like another post from yesterday where Quincy blew up on someone and got banned!(?) Don't know if that was hearsey (SP?) or what? Questions Questions Questions.  Would help our confusion if they would let us know what is happening.

Thanks Goat, there was some "Tit-for-Tat" going on in that thread of mine. Although I never really went at it with who ever else had the opposing view someone else. Can't remember who the others were!
I tend to avoid arguing because really never leads to something useful. I learned that eons ago back in the 2400 Baud dialup BBS days.

pain relief advice..

I understand that Tramadol (ULTRAM) has basically the same effects as subotex/suboxone...helping to increase the duration of any opioid medication while still offering 'some' analgesic pain relief qualities...

I also read several posts in another board concerning the complete ineffectiveness of Mallinckrodt's generics...I sincerely believe that a 'good-quality' generic brand (WATSON?) or the name-brand of opioid medication - taken in conjuntion with ULTRAM/Tramadol 'might be' the most effective and most economical method of prescription pain relief, allowing one to get the most time duration (and benefit) from of their opioid medication (without the common issue of 'running low' on their monthly opioid prescriptions)....

However, I think all is out the window if anyone attempts pain relief with Mallinckrodt's 'poor quality' generics, as they are apparently full of unnecessary fillers and have no quality control (many causing adverse effects and symptoms)...I'd advise avoiding the Mallinckrodt's generics altogether (at all costs)...Instead, trying the Ultram/Tramadol in conjuction with a name brand or quality generic opioid for best results...kindest regards and best of luck...T~
