I am 8 weeks pregnant. I have been on suboxone for 9 months. Because of the cost, my husband gets a prescription and we both take one- half a day. I did some research on-line and read that subutex was better for the baby than the suboxone so my husband got switched to subutex. I have my first doctor's appt. in 2 weeks and am scared to tell him because of taking the drug illegally. I've heard of doctor's calling social services in situations like this and i def don't want that to happen but want to do the right thing and have the healthiest baby possible. Does anyone have experience with subutex and pregnancy?

It would be best to be honest

It would be best to be honest now.  Don't wait until later.  I have heard of the Meconium (the first stool), which retains traces of most any drug the mother consumed during the pregnancy, being used in criminal prosecutions.

Copied and pasted from the

Copied and pasted from the Suboxone Website...

"What is SUBUTEX?
SUBUTEX contains buprenorphine but no naloxone, and is the preferred induction agent. SUBUTEX is also recommended for people who are sensitive to naloxone. SUBUTEX is not recommended for use during pregnancy. If, after an assessment of the risks and benefits to mother and fetus, the decision is made to continue buprenorphine-based treatment, SUBUTEX is the recommended treatment agent."

THere it is, Subutex is not recommended for use during pregnancy!

Pregnancy Categories

Drugs are assigned categories for use in pregnancy based on safety  to the fetus. The categories are: A, B, C, D, and X. Cat. A drugs are safe for use, have many tests proving safety, etc. Cat. B are considered relatively safe, with few to no tests done on humans, but tests done in animals show little danger to the fetus. Cat. C means there is harm or deformities to the fetus demonstrated, but the risk to a human fetus is indeterminate due to lack of tests. Cat. D means there is risk of harm to the fetus. Cat. X means the drug cannot be used in any circumstance, as it will cause fetal harm, teratogenicity, or death.  Any category, with the exception of X, comes down to this: A drug can be used in pregnancy if the BENEFITS outweigh the RISKS to the mother and baby. Subutex falls into this area. Opioid use in pregnancy can cause the fetus to become dependant on the drugs, decrease fetal breathing, cause low birthweight or premature delivery, among other things. Its best to tell the doctor whats going on

Allgood I will agree that if

Allgood I will agree that if a doctor says it is ok under their supervision than it is ok. I was just copying and pasting from the suboxone website.

Yeah you definitely have to

Yeah you definitely have to tell the doctor. And don't wait until the appointment. call monday morning as soon as they open. This is not something to decide based on an internet forum. Its very serious...schedule an appointment as soon as you can
