I have lurked here for some time and this is my first post. Yesterday, I picked up my Rx's from the pain doc's office -- 40 mg. oxycodone ER (generic Oxycontin), 3 tabs bid, and Dilaudid, 2 mg, for B/T q4-6 hrs prn. Was told that all generics for the former have been pulled and therefore I would get the brand name, which have worked much better than generics with the exception of the Watsons, so I was pretty pleased.
However, at the pharmacy, I asked my pharmacist about this, and he said he had not heard or seen anything about availability of generic Oxycontin, and that my script would be filled with Teva generics, which are okay but are not nearly as efficacious as the brand name.
Is there a website or someplace where I can get the skinny on this issue?

The problem is that my insurer will only pay for the real McCoy if the generics are NOT available or have been pulled by the FDA, so what I really need is to find out if the FDA has ordered Teva's products not be produced or distributed, either now or in an order effective sometime in the near future.

Teva will be available until the years end and then able to sell their remaining supply. You may want to ask your doctor to check the DAW box.

Well the Oxycontin generic
Well the Oxycontin generic issue has been talked to death on this website, so some searching on here would probably give you all the info you need on that subject. If I were you I wouldn't settle for Teva, IMO they have a very bad generic compared to brand or Watson ABG. Pretty soon this won't be a problem anymore and you will only be able to get brand making insurance have to cover them. Anyway what were you saying about my picture. Albertsons
Dont know if you have Albertsons in your area, but they no longer stock generic OC's. naturally that would be the only place I got mine filled.

old thread...
so is anyone else still getting the tevas?
my last fill was still teva 9331 20mg 3 tid. are the pharmacys allowed to dispence what the have left? my insurance wont cover the brand unless there is no generic as well as the o.p. i agree that the brand name is better and hope i will be able to have my next Rx filled with Purdue.

All the other companies
All the other companies that has to discontinue manufacturing last year where able to still ship what they had left after the stop production date. Just they same, the Pharmacies and Distributors are allowed to keep selling them until all supplies are depleted. My advice, if you are not under a contract switch to a pharmacy that no longer has any generics available.

I just had my rx of oxy 20mg
I just had my rx of oxy 20mg filled yesterday and i got the tevas and this was at a rite aid, i am in nc and they rarely subscribe oxycontin here so the pharmacies dont hardly carry them here as even my local cvs/eckerds dont even have them in stock and the rite aid i get them from seem to have plenty of old stock, as last month for some reason my doc was out and his substitue there prescribed me #60 10mg oxy instead of my regular 20mg and 20 of them were brand name, 20 we one gen version and 20 were teva,s , so i got a mixed batch

Why NOW???
Hello All:
Why is it May and I'm just NOW hearing about any of this? I'm suppose to be picking up my monthly 90 - 80mg tabs of TEVA Oxycodone HCL ER and I find out "They no longer make it!"???
I hear 'brand' will run $900.00, I've reached my 'Doughnut hole', and I don't receive that much per month! I'm told to make calls about "Programs", "Assistance", and / or Services, but just what am I to do about, "NOW"???
I guess my real question is this, Why isn't it that "By Law" patients taking ANY drug that's about to be 'discontinuted' are to be notified ahead of time? By these posts, it's obvious to me that both my pharmasist and my doctor knew, or should have known! But NOW, I'm left with NOTHING!
Adhesive Arachnoiditis has been no fun to have. I've had plenty of trouble with Meds, (brand Oxy) in the past. But this time I'm completely feed up with ALL OF IT!
What NOW??? And, Why NOW???
I just can't believe this is happening!

I am in the same spot a lot of people are regarding the Oxycodone ER 40 mg. I did haved it filled for the month of April and I go back to my doctor this coming Friday. I did ask if one pharmacy if they would hold the 90 I get per month and was told NO and I understand that. The pharmacist told me that she only has that one vial of I think she said 500 and the rest were PF (brand) I am hoping I can go to a very small town that may have some generics,that is my plan anyway, and I am sure other will have the same plan. I would have to go during the doctor's office because I am sure they will call (IMO) the clinic. I have gone to the same Walgreen's for the many years I have been prescibed them to me, I have been on them before they even were in the PDR. I will go from $7 to $199.00 on my Plan D frolm Medicare. This is very serious for many of us on Plan D,making me probably switch to the generic MS Contin (morphine) This turned out a mess but many of us knew the time was going to come and that time is now.

Not Me! I hadn't heard anything about the companies discontinuing their making of Generic Oxy.! Can anyone tell me WHY?
Why were they making it, and then not making it? Not enough profit?
Or does it have to do with Purdue? I thought the copyright issue had been settled to the "Generics" benefit side of it all. How could they have the right to make it and then not?
Do any of these companies stop to think about people who might have been taking these meds for extended periods of time, only to be suddenly told...."They don't make it anymore!"
And again, No, I hadn't been told until I called the Pharmacy about my months prescription. "We don't have any and they've stopped..."
For a person in non-stop pain, those words are DANGEROUS!
I just don't understand it at all....WHY??? HOW???

From what I am led to believe the outcome of the lawsuit says that they technically shouldn't have been producing the generics due to the copy right or patent issue and were thus discontinued.

Brand name companies used to have a 17yr patent but I imagine because of the hundred's of lobbyists they got kicked up to 20 yrs. Anyway Perdue sued them all and won in the court. That simple really.

Perdue will be the only maker of oxycodone
Good evening -I was having a conversation with my prescribing doctor today same topic , I had to comment for I too am wondering what the reprocusions will be for patients vs. copays-& oh yes out of pocket would drill to the tune of $1,000 realistically. My pharmacist says this is an 11 cent pill. Alot of $$$ has been made , will be made and basically the patient is the one who suffers. We will all see what happens. I certainly wish everyone well with this situation, who relies on this med to manage chronic pain.My pharmacy said last month their generic stock would be all used-& the real mccoy purdue will be the only one in use. It will be interesting for all of us to see how this pans out-goodluck!!!

This was part of the last comment. And as it turned out, for 3 prescriptions for the month, I wrote a check for $1056.92!!!
I've had Chronic Pain now for over 4 years.
Have been taking Oxy in one 'brand' or the other the entire time.
'But' with a monthly cost such as this, being on Social Security Disability Income only, I guess I won't be on it for long.
And, I've developed a New Chronic Pain!
It's in the location of the first word of the third sentence back (this being number one).
So Purdue will be the #!!*& as well. :p

A crime
$1,100.00 for a month's supply? And they charged Purdue Pharma with making criminally misleading statements about the habit forming properties of Oxy?
They should have charged them with a violation of basic moral principles, terminal and felony greed, excessive pig like pricing, cruelty to the poor, and, on top that, war crimes (as in making excessive profits off of the "Drug War") and some petty misdemeanors just to keep the indictment balanced:).
Every month I get tempted by my insurance agent to give up my straight BC/BS because it's expensive. On the other hand, my co-pays are $10 per script, max. With all the pain meds, diabetes meds, and digestive enzymes, I could not afford a 50% or so co-pay.
We oh so totally need a single payer system!

they are available. all you need to do is just talk to your pharmacist and see what brands they carry. if they are not carrying the brand you are looking for then they will probably order for you, depending on how well you kno your pharmacist. other than that just try a different pharmacy. shop around a bit
