Is there a generic morphine that would compare to 100 mg Embeda (the new extended release morphine)?
I have been posting in the othe forum about askin my new pain doc to give me something different or to add to the Embeda she prescribed for me last time - 100 mg every 12 hrs. Have found out that my husband's new ins is horrible as far as meds. It only pays for generics of ANYTHING. Plus there is a $2000 a yr cap on all meds. Unbelieveable. While we see what we can do about insurance, if anything, I need to tell my doc (or should i say PA) that not only is this med not strong enough, but I need it to be changed to a different morphine that is generic and cheap! Started thinking this could be good. Like maybe there is something that compares to the long lasting morphine sulphate in Embeda that is stronger - like 120 mg every 12 hours instead of 100 or something or that sort. kwim? maybe she will acutally give me some oxycodone for bt pain, because I just can't function with this pain. literally. it is in my legs mainly. my poor doggie is sitting at the door waiting to go out right now and I just can't do it!
off the subject a little - saw someone asking about Fentora. i was on it at the other clinic. took 100 mcg every 12 hours. i don't have cancer. it was my miracle pill. know i'll never get it again. that was at the clinic that supposedly found methadone in my urine screen. why would someone taking 160 mg oxycontin daily, along with 30 mg oxycodone daily for bt pain and the miracle pill Fentora RUIN it all by taking methadone? I have yet to write the letter to the doc (that i never saw) at that clinic, but I WILL. anyway....sorry for my tangent...
back to......anything i should know before i go in & tell her about the generic morphine? ER morphine is cheaper than oxycontin, right? the PA already said that they RARELY give oxy at that clinic. so since i am on my highest dose of this embeda, maybe this generic business can help me out. I know from oxy experience that some generic brands are awful.
any advice? again? maybe someday i can actually help somebody else! lol Thanks again, yall!
bout same way, the generic morphine sulfate ,60, 60mgs is $76, same quality as Ms-contin

thanks for the info. I go tomorrow, so we will see what happens. my copays have been so high, that those are great prices. i MIGHT be able to stay on the morphine IF i could get a higher dose or something for bt pain.
however, as i am getting used to this, i have realized that not only is my pain worse, but i am much more tired and lethargic. remember, my main diagnosis is fibro, so fatigue (which is a ridiculous descriptor really - i am so "fatigued" that I can't take a shower without feeling like i'm going to faint most of the time!) affects my life as much as my pain. that was a BIG reason they gave me the Fentora - to stop the pain and give me energy long enough to get me up and going.
will give you an update tomorrow! (unless i am too angry to write! lol)
she is giving you the Embeda because she suspects something. I AM NOT SAYING[/] that you are doing anything wrong or suspicious, but I've talked to several doctors about this medication and they all told me that the only reason that they would use the particular form of morphine is that the person has shown (or is suspected of) the potential for abusing it. [/]AGAIN, I'M NOT SAYING THAT YOU ARE. As far as a different morphine. There is none. Just immediate release and extended release. Morphine is Morphine. Besides, I think that you mentioned that this is a new doctor? I think you're already starting to scare her, and I think that's why you are receiving this treatment. I wouldn't even mention Fentora at this point. That is an extremely potent medication and is usually reserved for cancer patients. Although I know a few that get if as a breakthough med for CP. My doctor brought up a good point the last time I was in the see her. She said,"If you are taking this medication now (fentanyl 100mcg q2days+ hydrocodone 10/500 2 tabs TID for BTP+Xanax 2mg QID) where are you going to be in ten years". It is a VERY slippery slope, and once you start taking these kinds of medications, there is no turning back" AGAIN, I AM NOT SAYING THAT YOU ARE DOING THIS Hope this helps....Ray

Formatting is everything. Sorry for the highjack.
...is getting pimped out by the drug reps at present time. Your doctor dosen't have to suspect abuse/ diversion to prescribe this medication, it has just come to market, and is going through the usual hype that new drugs, especially narcotics are prone to immediately after release.
They're taking almost everyone who's on Avinza, OraMorph, MS-Contin, and trying to push this stuff to them.
All of the aformentioned drugs contain morphine sulfate- the only variance is the delivery system, and subsequently, the dosing interval, either once every 8, 12, or 24 hours. Embeda is every 8-12 hrs.
hi, im 19 yrs old..
when i was nine i get hit in the head/ knocked out with a Huge Rock.

my chronic pain in my head???
Please Help, ANY ADVICE??????
Thanks KaTTie!
...of Roxicodone 30? Head pain 24/7? Never goes away? Hmmmm
First you need to find out what's causing the pain in your head.
Hope you have health insurance. If not, there are a few ways of scamming hospital staff into performing an MRI/ CT scan, and you can pay them off in installments.
Not to scare you, but if your pain is that constant, severe, and has been going on for a long period of time, you might have a serious issue involving your brain, i.e. tumor, aneurysm...Get it checked out.
For chonic headaches, I would checkout a medication that is indicated for such. Your doctor will not just throw you oxycodone 30 without trying other medicines first.
You need to see a neurologist STAT

Generic MS Contin is dirt cheap compared to OxyContin. Its about half the price of generic IR oxycodone. I think I had to pay cash once during an insurance glitch, which they covered later, but it cost me $14? I think which was with a discount card. The Watson ABG's I had did the trick until the morphine gave me headaches.
